Take all the medium afflictions and non-virtuous deeds. Take the suffering of animals devouring each other, and the afflictions such as ignorance, and all the small non-virtuous deeds committed. Take all the sufferings of birth, aging, sickness, and death of beings in the heavenly realms, the signs of death of the desire realm gods, and the death, downfall, and so on of the two upper realms. Sometimes contemplate the realm of sentient beings, and sometimes contemplate each and every sentient being individually. If not, it will not arise from verbal aspiration to practical action. Sometimes contemplate all sentient beings pervading the ends of space, without exception, all at once. If not, wisdom will not increase. Sometimes contemplate each sentient being in hell, imagining one's own body in front of them. Sometimes contemplate this one body being taken by all. Sometimes take them in a rough order. Sometimes take the important ones. Sometimes, thinking that there is no need to practice these, take the unimportant ones. Sometimes contemplate taking from hell beings until becoming a Buddha. Contemplate from Bodhisattvas until becoming a Buddha. Sometimes start with hell beings, lead them to pretas (hungry ghosts), then lead them to animals, then to humans, then to the six realms of desire realm gods, then to the seventeen abodes of the form realm, then to the four formless realms, then to Shravakas (listeners), Pratyekabuddhas (solitary realizers), and Bodhisattvas up to the ten bhumis (grounds), taking them in order. Sometimes separate the afflictions and take them. Sometimes separate the karmas. Sometimes separate the sufferings and take them. Sometimes, from impermanence to grasping at reality, take all the opposing factors on the path. Sometimes take the opposing factors of stinginess and so on, which are the opposites of the six perfections. Sometimes take the opposing factors of clinging to purity and so on, which are the opposites of the aspects of enlightenment. Sometimes take the opposing factors of the ten bhumis. Sometimes take all the afflictive obscurations from various evil thoughts up to what is to be abandoned by seeing and what is to be abandoned by meditation. Sometimes take all the obscurations to knowledge from the ninety-four, thirty-six conceptual thoughts up to subtle conceptual thoughts. In this way, with various ways of thinking, do not be discouraged, but be certain and put it into practice. Let your intelligence be quick, and have great learning in what is to be known. In addition, have all the numbers and so on of other dharmas complete. Many sins will be purified, and it will be a cause for accumulating many accumulations. Moreover, if you treat them as enemies or ordinary people, compassion will not arise, so think of them as kind mothers. It is not right to think of those who are not mothers as mothers, because from beginningless time they have been our kind mothers, so think of those who are mothers as mothers. All of these should be taken alternately and comprehensively with clear and vivid loving-kindness and compassion. One might wonder if there is anything to take for the noble Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. There is, because they still have dependence. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All is suffering, as samsara is filled with fear, and the skandhas are also suffering, so their result is suffering. Except for the skandhas of an Arhat, all others are universally associated with suffering and samudaya (the origin of suffering in the Four Noble Truths). Furthermore, the afflictions of a Bodhisattva are conceptual thoughts, as stated in the scriptures. The superiors consider conceptual thought to be an affliction, and there exists the obscuration of knowledge that has not yet been removed. Moreover, starting from the path of accumulation, most of the habits that have not yet been abandoned exist, until the tenth-ground Bodhisattvas, like those freed from the shackles of a prison, still have subtle obscurations of knowledge. These are removed sequentially through the five paths, ten grounds, and four fruits, or all at once, as mentioned before. If they remove these, wouldn't it be more difficult to place beings on the Buddha-ground? Isn't it because they haven't completely freed themselves from their own bonds, so they can't do it? No, because they have promised when generating Bodhicitta that there is nothing they cannot do. How do they promise? 'I will liberate beings who have not yet been liberated,' which means they promise to liberate all beings from the suffering of samsara and place them on the first ground. 'Liberate those who have not been liberated,' which means liberating them from the bonds of signs and placing them on the seventh ground. 'Give breath to those who have not breathed,' which means like launching a large ship into the ocean, starting from the eighth ground, without effort, they can place beings on the three fruit grounds. 'Cause those who have not attained Nirvana to attain Nirvana,' which means even those who abide in the Vajra-like Samadhi at the final stage of the tenth ground, also because Nirvana means clinging to reality, there is still a slight habit of the obscuration of knowledge, so they promise to liberate from these, therefore it must be done. In general, the way of accepting is like this, but specifically, what is now evident is that everything seen and heard causes confusion, leading to the depletion of resources, etc. Or, suffering from severe diseases such as plagues. Or, suffering from leprosy. Or, engaging in business to pursue profits, eventually dying from leprosy, like a cow dying and its blood running dry. Or, becoming unbearable due to old age. Or, losing monastic vows, becoming like a rotting dog corpse. Or, being incomplete. Or, being harmed by humans or non-humans. Or, lacking faith and wisdom, etc. Or, no matter how much one listens, one cannot understand the Dharma. Or, being unable to think. Or, the growth of emotions such as attachment and aversion. Or, being oppressed and humiliated by fathers, brothers, etc., due to weak power, all these unwanted harms are taken upon oneself. Enduring these oneself, or fearing that these will happen, or other attachments --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
