Leave all thoughts in the state of emptiness and relax into the state of Dharma. If that alone is not enough to bear, then illusions, lights, heat rising from the crown, calling out names, trembling, goosebumps, and inverted consciousness will occur. In that state, from the two minds, abide in your own mind, thinking that this is the way it appears, and make a decision in your own mind. Thinking in this way, the mind will be comfortable and relaxed. Body and mind will gradually abide in their respective states. If you think that this is Apa (Guru) abiding in your own mind, then the state of non-thought will naturally arise. Therefore, for these three—disease, demons, and oneself—if you analyze with the wisdom of discernment, then that which has never been born is the unborn Dharmakaya. Because the unborn has no refutation, the unceasing is the unceasing Sambhogakaya. In the space between birth and cessation, there is no place to dwell, so the non-abiding is the non-abiding Nirmanakaya. Thus, that which cannot be established in any of the three times, because it has no substance, the non-substance is the Svabhavikakaya. Therefore, the result, the four Kayas, are not separate from these three—disease, demons, and one's own mind—but should be seen as the four Kayas. Thus, every time realization arises, know that you are entrusting the four Kayas into your hands. Every time realization arises, understand that it is the natural expression of Dharma. View all diseases and demons as sources of kindness. This is called the 'Introduction to the Four Kayas' instruction. Therefore, this shows how to transform adverse conditions into the path of ultimate Bodhicitta. After meditating on the two Bodhicittas in this way, or in the aftermath, one should think in this way about the view of cutting off hope and fear: 'Ah! This harmer is using me to practice the two Bodhicittas, and he seems to be handing Bodhi to me, so he is truly kind!' One should think in this way. Furthermore, since evil deeds are the cause of suffering, such suffering arises. If you do not want suffering, purify its cause—evil deeds, and abandon evil deeds in the future!' Because this becomes an exhortation to abandon evil deeds, one should think that he is kind. Therefore, these harmers, because they lack antidotes, are unaware that afflictions arise, which becomes their fault, so one should rejoice from the bottom of one's heart, thinking that this must be an emanation of the Guru. Furthermore, this harmer has brought the suffering of one birth in the lower realms, which I would have inevitably experienced in the future due to my past evil deeds, into this life, --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was guarding my cave, and I thought, 'This is truly kind.' Since it is working so hard to help me, I thought, 'This must certainly be an emissary of the Lama (bla ma, Sanskrit: guru, teacher) and the Three Jewels (dkon mchog, Sanskrit: ratna traya, three precious ones).' Regard desirable desires as dear to the heart. Regard sickness and suffering as having such qualities, and think in this way. Even if leprosy arises, it exhausts the suffering of future lives. This life is but a moment. If leprosy and sickness do not arise, the various distractions of this life will disturb the mind and accumulate sins, which will be completely cut off, allowing one to encounter the Dharma and thus take the essence of the body. One should rejoice in leprosy and sickness from the bottom of one's heart, not hypocritically. Furthermore, this sickness and suffering cause me to generate renunciation; without suffering, renunciation does not arise. It will surely eliminate all the afflictions in my mind, thereby accomplishing the intention of all the Dharmas, which is truly kind. It eliminates arrogance through disgust. Thus it is said. It also draws out the root of the Great Vehicle—compassion. Compassion arises for sentient beings in samsara. Thus it is said. So, this suffering eliminates all my suffering and accomplishes all happiness. Therefore, it is helping me. Think in this way. Just as the Lama and Khenpo (mkhan po, Sanskrit: upadhyaya, preceptor) bestowing vows and teaching the Dharma is kind, sentient beings and spirits also help me to achieve Bodhi, so regard everyone as a spiritual friend (dge bshes, Sanskrit: kalyanamitra, virtuous friend). One should meditate on them as being very kind. If one knows how to train the mind in this way, then all the actions of body, speech, and mind, and all that becomes the object of the senses, will be transformed into the two accumulations (ཚོགས་གཉིས།, Sanskrit: dve samhara, accumulation of merit and accumulation of wisdom), and from this, Dharma that is not wasted will arise. It is said that the beginning of the three countless eons (bskal pa grangs med gsum, Sanskrit: asamkhyeya kalpa trini, countless great eons) begins from here. Therefore, this teaches the training of a special thought—the two aspects of Bodhicitta. By striving in special actions—the accumulation and purification of both, transforming adverse conditions into the path of Bodhi is taught by 'Possessing the four powers is the supreme method.' When suffering arises, the focus on desiring happiness is lost. At that time, one should think that this is the cause of guidance, thus urging me to act in this way. The first action is the accumulation of merit: If you want to be free from suffering and attain happiness, you should practice devotion and reverence to the Lama and the Three Jewels, the cause of all happiness. Think that this is the field for urging the accumulation of merit. The offerings to the Three Jewels, the service and respect to the Sangha.
