Please pray to make me empty. By doing so, please do whatever you can to eliminate this demon of attachment to this short life. Shapowa said, 'As long as you do not see yourself as the enemy, neither the lama nor anyone else can save you.' Once you see yourself as the enemy, they will come to help you. Therefore, if you see yourself as the enemy, even if non-humans and spirits cause harm, it is harming the enemy. This is an ally in the fight against attachment. 'Because there is a large army on my side, it is not appropriate to be angry with those who cause harm, but rather to be happy.' He said, 'At that time, a special method of escaping from the straits of misfortune will arise.' At that time, you will reach the goal. Therefore, now divide yourself and others into enemies and allies to practice. Sometimes, divide yourself into enemies and allies to practice, calling the thoughts and actions of pursuing one's own benefit secular names, and calling the thoughts and actions of pursuing the benefit of others Dharma names. Follow Geshe Ben, and use the left and right hands to accept and reject. Geshe Ben said, 'I am just like a guard, holding a spear and standing at the gate of my heart, I cannot find anything else to do. If it tightens, I also tighten; if it loosens, I also loosen.' He said, 'You should treat them like pigs, hitting each pig's nose with a hammer.' All the sutras and treatises show that there is nothing else to do except to abandon attachment. Therefore, he showed that you should see yourself as the enemy and abandon attachment. Shapowa's teachings are called the Dharma of expelling demons. Second, to regard sentient beings as allies and cherish them, this shows that we should regard all sentient beings as benefactors. Shapowa said, 'This is the Dharma of flesh and blood,' also known as 'the Dharma of turning bad luck into good luck.' One should specifically cultivate loving-kindness and compassion towards those who cause harm, and practice the exchange of giving and taking. First, cultivate loving-kindness: this sentient being or non-human who harms me has been my parents, relatives, and friends many times since beginningless time, more than the leaves in a bamboo forest. Look at them with loving eyes, embrace them with loving hearts, save them from harm and disadvantage, and help them with all benefits and happiness, regarding them as the only benefactors. Generate closeness, so that even if you put them in your heart, it will not feel hot, and treat them like the apple of your eye. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jowo (Atiśa) said: 'Call upon your own deity and guru.' Furthermore, to cultivate compassion is: 'This harm to me now is not real. This harm is done out of delusion. In beginningless time, for my own sake, I recklessly created evil, suffering, and harsh words, accumulated afflictions and negative karma, and thus wandered endlessly in samsara, experiencing suffering. The responsibility for all of this lies with me. Now, in order to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of others, my negative karma involuntarily drives me, creating obstacles, thereby hindering the happiness of all sentient beings, so the responsibility for falling into hell in the next life also lies with me. Therefore, cultivate intense compassion, like a spark of fire hitting bare flesh.' 1-89 In this way, cultivate special love and compassion towards the one who harms you. By practicing in this way, non-humans (spirits) will have subtle clairvoyance arising from karma. We only know a little, but they will fully understand. If a thought like that of parents arises, how can harm come? If I treat all beings like a mother, then all beings will treat me like a child, it is the law of nature, and in this way, one will be liberated from suffering. As stated in the *Compendium Sutra*: 'The demons and diseases of the human world are pacified by the blessing of truth, through benefit and compassion.' Therefore, cultivate love and compassion towards the one who harms you. Then, think: 'From beginningless time, he has only been helping me, and I have only been harming him!' 'Now I too will repay his kindness, and protect him from harm.' Thinking in this way, exchange giving and taking with him, and practice it. Take all the leprosy and diseases in the world upon yourself. Take the end of your own life and the negative karma that will ripen in the next life upon this present illness, and cultivate joy. 1-90 Also, practice in this way: Invite the non-human who is present before you, and say to him: 'Your kindness to me is countless. I have eaten your flesh, drunk your blood, gnawed your bones, worn your skin, and drunk your milk, even the three thousand great thousand worlds would not be enough to contain it. I have killed you, beaten you, and robbed you countless times, so now I am experiencing the consequences. Now I will bear all of this kindness and retribution. Now you have power over me, I am very grateful to you.' Thinking in this way, if he likes meat, give him meat to eat; if he likes blood, give him blood to drink; if he likes bones, give him bones to gnaw...' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
