And also express it in words. In this way, during the practice, even the Buddha has only the benefit of all sentient beings in mind. I thought, 'I am so happy that I can now practice the great vow of the ten powers of freedom on this earth.' In addition, I also thought: By eliminating the obscurations of knowledge in the minds of the Hearers, Solitary Realizers, and Bodhisattva Aryas who dwell on the ground, and by abandoning my three poisons, I have perfected the accumulation of merit and will eventually attain Buddhahood. These noble beings can be included in all sentient beings, or they can be visualized separately, whichever is more convenient. Then send these two out through the wind. This means that the practice of giving and taking is practiced through the outward and inward movement of breath. This is done to make it easier to focus on this, to become proficient more quickly, and to eliminate many conceptual thoughts. 'Three realms, three poisons, three roots of virtue,' this indicates that one should practice through a completely pure realm of activity. Relying on the three kinds of objects (form, etc.) that are pleasant, unpleasant, and neutral, when the three poisons of attachment, aversion, and ignorance arise, practice in this way: Now that I am acting in greed like this, I think that in the world realm, countless sentient beings are also controlled by greed and act in greed. How pitiful! Then, with the mind, gather them all together, take them into your heart, and think: May these sentient beings all have the root of virtue free from greed. Similarly, this can be applied to the five poisons and practiced accordingly. 'Practice with words in all actions,' that is, practice only in words. May the suffering of all sentient beings ripen on me, and may my virtue enable them to attain happiness! Or, may the suffering of all sentient beings and its causes ripen on me, and may I completely destroy them; may my happiness ripen on all sentient beings, and may all sentient beings have happiness. Like this, express it in words when there is no one around. The thought that arises from the depths of the bones is: 'Alas, my old mothers, my masters, these sentient beings are so pitiful!' Like this, practicing with words in the four kinds of actions, this is the actual practice method of cultivating loving-kindness only in words as explained in the sutras. Third, transforming adverse circumstances into the path to enlightenment: 'When the vessel and its contents are filled with sin, transform adverse circumstances into the path to enlightenment.' This means that when sentient beings and the external environment --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whatever misfortune occurs, it is all the result of having committed sins in one's previous lives. Those who do not have faith in the Dharma regard these as unfortunate obstacles. For those who have entered the door of Dharma, as Shavo Gangpa said in front of Jejun Rinpoche, if one can view all physical illnesses and mental sufferings with the intention of purifying them, then the Lama and the Three Jewels will bestow blessings and accomplishments. Therefore, all adversities should be transformed into aids for cultivating Bodhicitta (the mind of enlightenment). This includes two aspects: first, cultivating the special intention—Bodhicitta; second, striving to perform special actions—accumulating merit and purifying obscurations. First, it is taught to rely on relative Bodhicitta to transform adverse conditions into the path to enlightenment. How does one transform them into the path? From beginningless time, we have not distinguished between friend and foe, so we have not been able to discern what to accept and reject. Whatever Dharma we have practiced has become a Dharma of self-grasping, which is wrong. Because we have never been close to liberation and Sarvajnata (all-knowingness), now we must distinguish between friend and foe and make the Dharma the path. The enemy is oneself, and the friend is sentient beings. There is nothing else to do but to regard oneself as an enemy and abandon oneself, and to regard others as friends and cherish them. The reason for regarding oneself as an enemy is: 'All blame is placed on me.' This means regarding oneself as an enemy. Whatever unpleasant things happen, do not blame others, but think that it is one's own fault. Put all the blame into one's own heart, as the scriptures say: 'All the fears and sufferings in the world arise from clinging to the self. What use is this great demon of self to me?' And 'If there is a self, then one knows there is another. From the division of self and other, attachment and hatred arise. From these two, all faults arise.' Also, 'Knowing that oneself has faults, and seeing others as an ocean of virtues, one should completely abandon self-grasping and cultivate the practice of taking on others.' All the faults and sufferings in the world arise from clinging to the 'I'. From beginningless time, we have mistaken the non-self as 'I', clinging to this impermanent body, no matter where it is born. In order to maintain it, we constantly engage in accepting and rejecting, and in order to satisfy our own desires, we deceive others and create negative karma, so that we suffer endless pain in the beginningless cycle of rebirth, especially the suffering of the three lower realms.
