Similarly, through mind training, one subdues self-grasping, but if one becomes arrogant because of it, thinking, 'I am a good practitioner of mind training,' and thinking that others do not have such Dharma, thereby generating pride, and considering oneself good while belittling others, one should avoid such behavior. If the self-grasping of Dharma becomes strong among present-day practitioners, it will become the Dharma of the enemy, like sending a robber into the forest and then chasing after them to a rocky mountain to eliminate them. Therefore, abandon all of that, and like using medicine to treat illness, lower self-grasping and regard oneself as the lowest servant of all beings. 'Do not seek suffering in return for happiness.' This means that if others suffer for one's own happiness, one becomes happy. If one's own family and friends die, one thinks, 'It would be good to cut off their lineage.' If the patron becomes sick or dies, one thinks, 'This will accumulate wealth and merit.' If the meditation friend in that place dies, one thinks, 'Only I will gain merit.' If this enemy dies, I will be happy,' one should abandon such thoughts. Because sentient beings each enjoy their own merit, wherever one goes, enemies will appear due to karma. Seventh, showing the teachings of mind training: If one practices these Dharmas, mind training will not decline, and it will increase more and more, so one should learn. All yogas are done with one method.' This means that when practicing other Dharmas, there are separate rules for food, conduct, and yoga, but for those who enter this Dharma, it is enough to keep this Dharma in mind for all things such as food, so one should practice in this way. All reversals are done with one method.' This means that the blessings of demons sometimes cause people to disbelieve in this profound Dharma, thereby producing reversed meditation experiences, such as 'After practicing mind training, the illness has become more severe, the harm from ghosts has become more severe, one has become more hateful, self-grasping and other afflictions have become more severe,' and so on, thereby not wanting to practice, or not wanting to practice without such a reason. Because there is a danger of reversal, one should immediately recognize it and think, 'I have generated reversed practice,' and then with another thought, think that there are many in the world who, like me, have reversed thoughts about the Dharma, and then take all of those upon oneself, offering one's body, possessions, and merits to them, so that one will have the right understanding of the Dharma and enter the path of non-reversal. Do two things at the beginning and the end.' This means that after getting out of bed in the morning, thinking about the whole day --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One must avoid being tainted by clinging to oneself, and relinquish such clinging; one must not diminish the cherishing of sentient beings, and generate such a wish. Then, during the daytime, one should be mindful and aware in following (one's actions). Then, when going to sleep at night, one should begin with the samadhi of lion-like loving-kindness. Then, one should examine in sequence items such as 'Did this, did that,' and if one finds contradictions, one should practice repentance. At that time, one should reproach oneself, remember the guru's instructions, and think, 'Wasting this leisure and opportunity, harming oneself, only someone like you would do such a thing.' One should confess and disclose, and generate the intention to abandon (such actions) in the future. If one has not contradicted (the practice), one should cultivate joy, thinking that one has made the leisure and opportunity meaningful. And one should dedicate the merit towards the arising of this Dharma in one's own mindstream. One should pray that in all lifetimes, one will never be separated from the two aspects of Bodhicitta. Whatever happens, one should endure it. This means that even if great merit suddenly arises, one should not be arrogant or attached, and one should not be swayed by the eight worldly concerns, but rather transform it into an aid for Dharma practice. Some people, when they have retinues and receive veneration, become arrogant and despise others, doing whatever comes to mind, and these things should be abandoned. Even if one experiences decline and poverty, like sinking to the bottom of the water and being unable to rise, one should not become discouraged, thinking, 'Only someone like me would experience this.' One should not become disheartened and unable to purify (oneself) through it. Rather, one should observe the ups and downs of higher realms and lower realms, and the joys and sorrows of human existence, and realize that the differences between them are not so great, and that one will not always be immersed in them. Therefore, one should think of increasing one's virtuous practice without distraction. As it is said: 'Even with the abundance of the gods, one should not become arrogant; even with the poverty like that of a hungry ghost, one should not be disheartened by decline.' ‘Both should be protected even at the cost of one's life.’ This means that one should cherish the vows, whether they are the general precepts of the Dharma, or the vows that one has promised, especially the vows of this particular Dharma, such as 'Do not speak of the faults of fellow practitioners,' etc., more dearly than one's life, because if these vows are broken, even the happiness of this life will not arise. ‘One should train in the three difficulties.’ This means that when abandoning afflictions, it is difficult to remember the antidote at first, difficult to reverse (the affliction) in the middle, and difficult to completely cut off the continuum in the end. Therefore, one should strive to accomplish these three difficulties without difficulty. The method of training is: every morning, after getting dressed, once an affliction arises, one should remember the antidote, reverse (the affliction), and vow not to let such an affliction arise in one's mindstream again. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
