Having established the great tradition taught at Pasareng, without contradicting the liberation of the Kadam tradition, one must practice in the four-sided Dharma. Shapowa said, 'If wealth always goes to the mundane, then practice becomes empty.' Avoid mixing with those who break vows, are immoral, and all sinners, and ensure that all actions do not become empty. The third point is: some can endure harm from humans, but not from non-humans, because they are too superstitious about spirits, or the opposite. Some respect those of high status, but despise those of low status. Some love their own family, but hate outsiders. Some help animals, but do not help spirits. All of these are one-sided, so practice helping all beings without partiality. Transform intentions and maintain one's own state. By contemplating the exchange of self and others, and remembering the yoga that is never separated for a moment, the actions of body and speech should not change from before, but be able to be maintained, and not uttered to others. Be able to associate with others, and maintain the previous amount of virtuous practice and behavior without changing from before. Some listen to the Dharma and abandon their previous liberation and practice, and make new associations, which is abandoning the old, which is very bad. It is said that mind training should have small obvious signs but a great determination of meaning, so that the mind matures without others noticing. 'Do not speak of impaired limbs.' This means that one should not speak of any worldly faults, such as 'this person is disabled,' or any faults of Dharma, such as 'this person is immoral,' and avoid these. Do not think of any other aspects. In general, benefit all sentient beings, especially those who have entered the door of Dharma, and especially do not examine the faults of one's Dharma friends. Even if one is training one's mind and likes to argue, thinking, 'This person is impossible to associate with,' it is not right, because one is training one's mind from one's own perspective, and it is not right to think of faults from the perspective of others. If one involuntarily sees faults, it is because one's own appearance is impure. He has no faults. Think that all sentient beings have the essence of Buddha-nature, and examine one's own faults. Abandon all hope for results. After training the mind, abandon all expectations, such as hoping to be respected, entertained, and famous in this life, hoping to be helped by non-humans, hoping to obtain the happiness of gods and humans in the next life, and hoping to attain Nirvana oneself. Finally, abandon all thoughts of self-interest. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Furthermore, one should cultivate diligently, abandoning all hope for Buddhahood. Regarding the merits of practice, one should not be impatient or have great expectations. If the demons know, they will create obstacles. Even if one makes great efforts and perseveres for a long time, if there are no results, one should not be discouraged. One should avoid poisonous food. 'Avoiding poisonous food' means not regarding self-grasping as an enemy, not clinging to oneself, and putting one's own interests first. No matter what kind of Dharma practice one does, if it is driven by the thought of clinging to things as real, it will become the cause of samsara, binding one to samsara, and thus bring suffering, just like poisonous food, so one should avoid it. 'Do not rely on good government' means that one should not bear grudges against others' unreasonable behavior, and one should not take revenge. 'Do not speak evil words' means that no matter what kind of work or task one encounters, one should not say evil words that hurt others' hearts and are insincere. Whether close or distant, good or bad, one should avoid speaking evil words to anyone, and one should avoid rude and violent words. 'Do not set traps' means that one should keep in mind the harm caused by others and wait for the opportunity to retaliate, and one should avoid this behavior. 'Do not seize weaknesses' means that whether it is a human or a non-human, one should avoid attacking and exposing shortcomings. For example, one should avoid reciting powerful mantras to non-humans, or exposing others' precepts and other faults in public. 'Do not put the mule's burden on the ox' means that one should transfer the responsibilities and burdens that one is unwilling to bear to others through various deceptive means, and one should avoid such malicious and faulty behavior. 'Do not pursue the quick peak' means that one should not expect to get what one desires easily, and one should avoid unwise behavior in order to satisfy one's desires, or taking possession of it through various means. 'Do not die of desire' means that if one can let go of attachment to this life, one will gain happiness. 'Do not practice on an empty stomach' means that if one only thinks of oneself as good in one's heart, but pretends to be humble and obedient on the surface; or in order to eliminate inner troubles, one pretends to cover up by practicing, this kind of behavior that does not really change the heart, but only does superficial work in vain, should be avoided. If one thinks that one can completely eliminate troubles and delusions through one practice, then there is no difference from the heretics. The purpose of practice is to counteract troubles and delusions. 'Do not turn a god into a demon' means that if the worldly gods are unhappy, they will create harm. Gods should bring benefits, and if they bring harm instead, they have become demons. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
