Then, it would also lead to the fault of being permanent. Furthermore, sugarcane, grains, and so on, draw water from the ground with their roots, thereby producing flowers and fruits. Therefore, it is unreasonable to consider them as having life. If the sugarcane is cut into many pieces, would the life also become many? If life is concentrated in one piece, then wouldn't the other pieces be without life? If they are planted in the ground, it will be seen that they each sprout new shoots and so on. Therefore, considering the other pieces as not having life contradicts your own commitment. Although outsiders want to attain happiness, they are ignorant of the means to attain it, and they deceive themselves and others with meaningless asceticism and various forms of torment. This is a great mistake. For them, if there are aspects that are in accordance with the Buddha's teachings, such as non-harming, truthfulness, and celibacy, wise people should not refute them. There are four schools of internal (Buddhist) philosophy: Sarvāstivāda (the 'All Exists' school), Sautrāntika (the 'Sutra Following' school), Yogācāra (the 'Yoga Practice' school, also known as the Mind-Only school), and Madhyamaka (the 'Middle Way' school). Among them, the Śrāvakayāna's Sarvāstivāda school believes that the three unconditioned dharmas (space, cessation by choice, and cessation without choice) are permanent and substantially existent; conditioned dharmas are substantially existent as momentary entities; non-associated compositional factors are substantially existent; the three times (past, present, and future) are substantially existent as moving from one state to another; even if sense consciousness does not arise with the appearance of an object, at the moment of contact between the sense faculty and the object, subtle particles accumulate into coarse matter, which is then directly cognized; and they believe that there is no 'self' as assumed by outsiders, and they do not acknowledge a creator such as Īśvara. They do not believe in the 'Pudgala' (藏文:གང་ཟག, 梵文天城体:पुद्गल, 梵文罗马拟音:Pudgala, 汉语字面意思:person, individual) which is inexpressible as being either permanent or impermanent, and this view is unreasonable. If the 'Pudgala' is consciousness, then like the consciousness of objects such as a pot, other consciousnesses will arise following it, and therefore it is impermanent. If it is an inanimate object, then it cannot experience pleasure or pain, and therefore it is not a 'Pudgala'. The Sautrāntikas believe that the appearance of an object in consciousness is consciousness itself. Before the arising of consciousness, there is no entity that can produce the appearance, and sense consciousness is not the object of that. The three unconditioned dharmas (space, cessation by choice, and cessation without choice) are negations, and therefore they are not substantially existent like the son of a barren woman. Non-associated compositional factors are the states of form, mind, and mental factors, and they are not substantially existent inanimate objects. The three times (past, present, and future) are imputed in relation to the before and after of conditioned dharmas, and they are not considered to be substantially existent. Although they believe that after liberation from suffering, there will be no form that is unimpeded, in reality, attaining Nirvana is like a lamp being extinguished, and it is not that there is nothing at all. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Body, wisdom, miraculous powers, and direct perception, etc., because they possess the perfection of both benefits. The Yogācāra-cittamātra, like the Tirthikas (外道) believe, has an ātman (我) with parts. The two Śrāvakayāna schools, as they believe, even if analyzed, subtle particles do not have substance. Like appearances in a dream, external objects of focus do not exist in reality, but appear as real due to the power of habit. Although they believe that non-dual grasping and apprehended, self-aware and self-illuminating consciousness is the ultimate truth, because the momentary nature of consciousness is not established, its accumulation and continuity are also not established in reality. The Madhyamikas believe that the ātman (我) with parts, etc., as the Tirthikas believe, does not exist, and the external objects as the two Śrāvakayāna schools believe are not truly existent. The consciousness that the Cittamātras believe in is not truly existent in reality, because it is free from the nature of one and many, like a lotus in the sky. If conventional dharmas are analyzed, they do not exist, and the ultimate nature, the dharmadhātu, is suchness. Free from all elaborations of the four extremes, the unchanging, perfectly established reality abides in the ultimate meaning. In short, the Tirthikas' belief in an independent creator and anātman (无我), as well as the attainment of heaven through life sacrifices, or the complete absence of cause and effect, are all unreasonable. The Pudgala (补特伽罗) ātman (我) that the Vaibhāṣikas (分别说者) in the Śrāvakayāna believe in is also non-existent. The Sautrāntikas (经量部) believe that Nirvāṇa (涅槃) is not like the extinguishing of a lamp, completely non-existent. The external objects that the two Śrāvakayāna schools believe in do not exist as substances in reality. The consciousness that the Cittamātras believe in does not exist in reality when analyzed. The Prāsaṅgika-Madhyamikas' belief that there is nothing in the ultimate truth is also incorrect, so it would be excellent if one could understand the great meaning of the Madhyamaka that is free from extremes. Having understood in this way, relying on the good explanations of the inner teachings, refute the errors of the outer teachings, and within the inner teachings, through the difference in yogic intelligence, understand the higher and higher as superior. Of the three turnings of the wheel, the first mainly teaches the tenets of the Śrāvakayāna, and the latter two teach both Cittamātra and Madhyamaka, with the intermediate one mainly teaching Prāsaṅgika-Madhyamaka. In the later turning of the wheel, regarding the profound meaning of emptiness, the subject of dharma does not exist in reality and does not appear, but the nature of dharma, the self-aware wisdom, clearly reveals the great Madhyamaka with appearances. In the first turning of the wheel, the three realms of existence are impermanent and suffering. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
