It is not other. However, because the habitual tendencies are slightly weak, dreams are regarded as untrue; because the habitual tendencies are very strong, these things that appear as external objects are regarded as true. Similarly, good and bad habitual tendencies also manifest as various kinds of good and bad. For example, it is said that gods see the water in a container as nectar, humans see it as water, pretas see it as pus and blood, and hell beings see it as molten water. Therefore, if water is considered to be truly established, then nectar is not true; if nectar is considered to be truly established, then water is not true. Therefore, one should know that the grasper and the grasped are without true existence. Similarly, the earth, stones, mountains, and rocks of the human realm, and the iron ground of the hell realm, etc., are in reality one's own mind. 3-95 However, they appear differently due to good and bad habitual tendencies. For example, if a white cloth is dyed with indigo, it appears as a blue cloth; if it is dyed with madder, it appears as a red cloth. But in reality, apart from the white itself, the white itself has not become another color, nor have blue and red come from elsewhere. What is the reason for this? Because the white cloth is turned blue by the juice of indigo, it is called a blue cloth. But in reality, it is not perceived as blue, but is the original white of the cloth. Similarly, this mind, when bound by ignorance and accompanied by inverted perceptions, is called a sentient being; when ignorance is cleared away and wisdom is expanded, it is called a Buddha. But in reality, when bound by ignorance, the mind of the Buddha has not gone elsewhere; even at the time of Buddhahood, the mind of the sentient being has not gone elsewhere. Therefore, just as various colors can appear on one cloth due to different dyes, one mind can appear in various forms such as the three realms and six classes of beings, shravakas, pratyekabuddhas, Buddhas, bodhisattvas, etc., due to the differences between wisdom and inverted perceptions. Then, are sentient beings and inverted perceptions, or Buddhas and wisdom, different? 3-96 Sentient beings and inverted perceptions, or Buddhas and wisdom, are neither the same nor different. Then, what are they like? Like musk and the scent of musk. Similarly, like the sun and the rays of the sun. It is not reasonable to stay as one, because the sun remains in the sky while the rays pervade the earth. It is also not reasonable to stay as different, because if there is no sun, where would there be the rays of the sun? If there is a sun but no rays, how could that be? Therefore, all the dharmas of samsara and nirvana are one's own mind, and to see dharma and mind as different is ignorance; to realize that dharma and mind are non-dual is Buddhahood, which is the all-encompassing awareness. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From the tantras: 'Whatever is the nature of mind is the nature of dharma; whatever is the nature of dharma is the nature of mind. The union of dharma and mind, free from duality, is what is taught as the Great Bodhi.' Now, are ignorance and wisdom distinct? They are like light and darkness, and should be examined with reason. For example, when light arises, darkness does not go elsewhere; when darkness thickens, light does not go elsewhere. Therefore, when light greatly increases, it transforms darkness into light. When darkness greatly thickens, it is as if light has gone into darkness. When the darkness of ignorance greatly thickens, the light of wisdom is lost. When wisdom greatly increases, the light that has not been abandoned is purified into the state of wisdom. Therefore, bad ignorance cannot be discarded elsewhere, and good wisdom cannot be attained from elsewhere. As Lord Maitreya said: 'In this, there is nothing to be removed, nor is there anything to be placed. Look at reality as it is in reality. Seeing reality as it is, one is liberated.' Therefore, those who wish to attain the state of omniscience must cultivate the antidote to the darkness of ignorance, which is the emptiness free from elaboration. As it is said: 'Emptiness is the antidote to the darkness of the afflictions and cognitive obscurations. Those who wish to quickly attain omniscience, why do they not cultivate emptiness?' Therefore, having understood that all phenomena are one's own mind, and having cultivated the emptiness of the nature of mind, one realizes that what is to be abandoned and the antidote are of one taste, and when the result is attained, the flowers of qualities will fully bloom on the Dharmakaya, free from the clinging to characteristics. Again, Lord Maitreya said: 'Realizing the suchness of abandonment and antidote, and the result being free from the basis of clinging to characteristics, at that time, on the sky-like body, the flowers of characteristics will bloom.' Therefore, in this context, one should cultivate the samadhi of emptiness and suchness. The fault of not cultivating it is that if all phenomena are not taken into account by emptiness, and the deity is meditated upon as being self-existent, one will be born as a god in the desire realm. If the hand gestures are meditated upon as being self-existent, one will be born as a demon or rakshasa. If the head ornaments are meditated upon as being self-existent, one will be born as a fox in a charnel ground or a monkey in a forest. If the union is meditated upon as being self-existent, one will be born as a worm in the womb. If the subjugation is meditated upon as being self-existent, one will be born in the hell realms. The benefit of cultivating it is that by cultivating non-conceptual emptiness, the conceptual thoughts that cling to characteristics are destroyed, and whatever one does, such as planting karma, becomes a collection of wisdom. The second is the samadhi of all-pervading appearance. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
