There are thirty-six in total, divided into nine categories. The second category also has nine types. The first type of grasping has nine, and the second type of grasping also has nine, totaling thirty-six. If divided from the perspective of realms (Sanskrit: dhātu, meaning: constituent elements): The desire realm (Sanskrit: Kāmadhātu, meaning: the realm of desire) has thirty-six as before, the form realm (Sanskrit: Rūpadhātu, meaning: the realm of form) has thirty-six, and the formless realm (Sanskrit: Ārūpyadhātu, meaning: the formless realm) also has thirty-six, totaling one hundred and eight. If divided from the perspective of size: each one is further divided into great of great, medium of great, small of great; great of medium, medium of medium, small of medium; great of small, medium of small, and small of small. As it is said in the scripture: 'In the nine grounds, the defilements such as great of great, etc., are purified by the antidote of small of small, etc.' Therefore, if it is said to be the abandonment through cultivation (修断, bhāvanāpahātavya) of the Great Vehicle (Sanskrit: Mahāyāna, meaning: the great vehicle), then it must be the cognitive obscuration (Sanskrit: jñeyāvaraṇa, meaning: obscuration of knowledge). Because obscurations are divided into afflictive obscuration (Sanskrit: kleśāvaraṇa, meaning: obscuration caused by afflictions) and cognitive obscuration, and the afflictive obscuration has already been abandoned by attaining the path of cultivation (Sanskrit: bhāvanāmārga, meaning: the path attained through cultivation) of the Great Vehicle. This is because it belongs to the abandonment through seeing (Sanskrit: darśanamārgaheya, meaning: abandoned during the path of seeing) of the Great Vehicle. Even if these two obscurations themselves transform and are considered abandonment through cultivation, the scope is not entirely the same, because there exist afflictive obscuration abandoned through seeing and cognitive obscuration abandoned through seeing, and these are not abandonment through cultivation. Therefore, although abandonment through seeing and abandonment through cultivation are contradictory, the abandonment through seeing and abandonment through cultivation of the Great Vehicle are not contradictory, and can themselves be considered abandonment through seeing, because it is the object to be destroyed by the uninterrupted path (Sanskrit: anantaryamārga, meaning: the path directly leading to liberation) of the path of seeing (Sanskrit: darśanamārga, meaning: the path of seeing truth). This is because it is the object to be destroyed by the uninterrupted path of the path of seeing of the Great Vehicle, because there is no uninterrupted path of the path of cultivation of the Great Vehicle that becomes its direct antidote. The first argument is established because it has already been abandoned by attaining the path of cultivation of the Great Vehicle. The second argument is established because Hearers (Sanskrit: Śrāvaka, meaning: listeners) and Solitary Buddhas (Sanskrit: Pratyekabuddha, meaning: solitary realizer) cannot abandon any cognitive obscuration. Therefore, this way of acknowledging is very important, so it will be explained in detail. Second, regarding the antidote that can abandon—the path of cultivation of the Great Vehicle—there are also two aspects: nature and classification. First, the nature is: the subsequent realization (Sanskrit: anvabhisamaya, meaning: subsequent experience) of the Great Vehicle that has already directly realized (Sanskrit: abhisamaya, meaning: direct experience) emptiness (Sanskrit: śūnyatā, meaning: emptiness, no self-nature) and is in a state of continuous practice. Second, the classification is divided from the perspective of the entity into: contaminated (Sanskrit: sāsrava, meaning: associated with afflictions) path of cultivation and uncontaminated (Sanskrit: anāsrava, meaning: without afflictions) path of cultivation. The first has two aspects: nature and classification. First, the nature is the subsequent realization of the Great Vehicle that possesses the duality of grasper and grasped (Sanskrit: grāhaka-grāhya-dvaya, meaning: the duality of subject and object). Second, the classification is divided into: Subsequent wisdom (Sanskrit: pṛṣṭhalabdhajñāna, meaning: wisdom gained after emerging from meditation) and equipoise wisdom (Sanskrit: samāhitajñāna, meaning: wisdom gained in meditation). The first has two aspects: nature and classification. First, the nature is --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
