If one is an Arya (Yangphak, 圣者), then they necessarily do not possess the afflictions that bind one to samsara (khorwa, 轮回), because that is the general case. If the abandonment and realization of a Shravaka Arhat (Nyenrang Drachom, 声闻阿罗汉) and Pratyekabuddha Arhat (Nyenrang Drachom, 独觉阿罗汉) are not preceded by an inferior path, then they have realized the Path of Seeing (Mthonglam, 见道) of the Mahayana (Thekchen, 大乘), beginning with the Dharma-knowledge-acceptance of suffering (dukngal chos shes, 苦法智忍). First, the first point is established, as the Ratnagotravibhāga (Gyü Bla, 宝性论) says: 'Aryas have abandoned birth, old age, and death, and all sufferings. Those born from karma and afflictions, because that does not exist for them, that does not exist.' It also says: 'Because of seeing as it is, they have transcended birth and so on.' The second point is established, as the Nidanasutra (Nyisnang, 二显论) says: 'The knowledge and abandonment of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas is the non-arising Dharma-acceptance of the great Bodhisattvas.' What is acceptance? It is the Dharma-knowledge-acceptance of suffering.' If it is a cognitive obscuration (shesdrip, 所知障), then it is not necessarily abandoned on the Path of Seeing of the Mahayana, because the cognitive obscuration on the Path of Meditation (gomlam, 修道) is not abandoned on the Path of Seeing of the Mahayana. If someone asserts that the cognitive obscuration abandoned on the Path of Meditation is necessarily not abandoned on the Path of Seeing of the Mahayana, that is not reasonable, because the cognitive obscuration abandoned on the Path of Meditation by a Pratyekabuddha is the cognitive obscuration abandoned on the Path of Seeing of the Mahayana. Second, from the perspective of the object, there are two types of conceptualization: grasping at the object (zungtok, 能取分别) and grasping at the subject (dzinpa'i rtokpa, 所取分别). The first is divided into definition and types. The definition is: that which is abandoned on the Path of Seeing of the Mahayana, which, focusing on its own object as the grasped, is a mind that clings to what appears as an object of enjoyment. The types are divided into two: conceptualization grasping at the object based on the ground (zhizhi tenchan gyi, 以基为所依的) and conceptualization grasping at the object based on the antidote (nyenpö tenchan gyi, 以对治为所依的). The first has nine types: 'Ignorance, aggregates, elements, name and form, gradual increase, complete purification, non-knowing, the object of the noble path not abiding, generate self and other purity.' The second also has nine types: 'The meaning of aggregates, elements, sense bases, birth, emptiness, perfection of wisdom, Path of Seeing, Path of Meditation, in the paths of the Path of No More Learning, there are nine types of individual conceptualizations.' Second, conceptualization grasping at the subject also has two types: definition and types. The definition is: that which is abandoned on the Path of Seeing of the Mahayana, which, focusing on its own object as the grasper, is a mind that clings to what appears as the enjoyer. The types are divided into two: conceptualization grasping at substance (dze dzin rtokpa, 实执分别) and conceptualization grasping at permanence (tak dzin rtokpa, 常执分别). The first also has nine types: 'Independence, oneness, cause, the seer, afflictions, desire, detachment from desire, Path of Seeing, Path of Meditation, making meaning, there are nine types of self-grasping.' The second also has nine types: 'Person, aggregates, elements, sense bases, dependent arising, complete purification, Path of Seeing, Path of Meditation, special path, and Path of No More Learning, in those, there are nine types of conceptualizations.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
