'The conduct of a renunciate is a stainless path, its fruit is neither conditioned nor unconditioned, it possesses the path of liberation and cessation.' Therefore, if any of the four fruits are attained, they must possess five excellent characteristics. This is crucial for all schools of thought. Otherwise, according to the 'Compendium of Topics' (Kunsle), the Dharma-knowledge of the path of seeing of a Hearer (Nyanthö) must be accepted as the fruit of Stream-enterer (Gyünzhuk). Because the Dharma-knowledge of the path is the immediate path that eliminates the three: what is to be abandoned by seeing, what is to be abandoned by meditation, and the co-emergent afflictions. If the path of seeing is an immediate path, then it must be any of the four Dharma-acceptances. But this is unacceptable, because the 'Compendium of Topics' itself states that to attain the fruit of Stream-enterer, one must realize the sixteen aspects of the Four Noble Truths. Therefore, it is acceptable, as in the 'Treasury of Knowledge' (Mdzöd), to define the Hearer's path of learning, which is separated by abandoning the three: what is to be abandoned by seeing, what is to be abandoned by meditation, and the co-emergent afflictions, as the characteristic of the fruit of Stream-enterer. But this is not acceptable for other schools, because the previous faults remain. Therefore, our own view is: a Hearer who has realized the sixteen aspects of the Four Noble Truths and is separated by abandoning the three: what is to be abandoned by seeing, what is to be abandoned by meditation, and the co-emergent afflictions, is the definition of the fruit of Stream-enterer. Fourth, regarding the path of meditation, there are four aspects: the aspect of what is to be abandoned by meditation, the aspect of the antidote path of meditation, the aspect of the fruit of what has been abandoned, and the aspect of the individual abiding in that fruit. First, regarding what is to be abandoned by meditation, there are two aspects: definition and classification. The definition is: that which possesses an antidote that serves as its direct opponent, and is an object to be abandoned that is substantially different from what is to be abandoned by seeing. There are three classifications: what is to be abandoned by meditation by Hearers, what is to be abandoned by meditation by Solitary Realizers, and what is to be abandoned by meditation by the Great Vehicle. The latter two will be explained in their respective sections. First, regarding what is to be abandoned by meditation by Hearers, there are two aspects: definition and classification. The definition is: the aggregates included in cyclic existence that abide in the category of what is to be destroyed by the immediate path of the Hearer's path of meditation. There are two classifications: afflictions to be abandoned by meditation that abide in the category of what is to be directly destroyed, and cyclic existence thrown by karma and afflictions that abide in the category of what is to be destroyed from the root. First, regarding the former, there are two aspects: definition and classification. The definition is: the mind-stream that is naturally co-emergent, possesses the immediate path of the Hearer's path of meditation as its direct antidote, and is extremely unpacified. There are two classifications: from the perspective of essence, there are desire, anger, pride, ignorance (the four non-views), and the view of the self and the view of extremes (the two views), making a total of six. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Furthermore, the classification of afflictions to be abandoned by seeing differs according to different schools. For example, the Sarvāstivāda school believes that the three false views (Sakkāya-dṛṣṭi, Sakkāya-dṛṣṭi, view of self; antagrāha-dṛṣṭi, antagrāha-dṛṣṭi, extreme view; mithyā-dṛṣṭi, mithyā-dṛṣṭi, false view) and doubt are to be abandoned by seeing. However, the Abhidharmakośa states that only desire, pride, ignorance, and fear are to be abandoned by seeing, while anger is considered to be abandoned by cultivation. Dividing from the perspective of the Truths, there are six false views based on the Truth of Suffering. Similarly, there are six based on the Truth of Origin, the Truth of Cessation, and the Truth of the Path. Dividing from the perspective of the realms, the Desire Realm has six, four, and twenty-four. The two upper realms (Form Realm and Formless Realm) do not have anger, so each has five, four, and twenty. Dividing from the perspective of small, medium, and large, each affliction is further divided into large, medium, and small. That is, the large is further divided into large of the large, medium of the large, and small of the large; the medium is further divided into large of the medium, medium of the medium, and small of the medium; the small is further divided into large of the small, medium of the small, and small of the small, totaling nine types. With this division, the Desire Realm has six nine fifty-four types, the Form Realm has five nine forty-five types, and the Formless Realm also has five nine forty-five types, totaling one hundred and forty-four types. If divided according to the nine grounds, the Desire Realm is the same, and the eight grounds of the First Dhyana, Second Dhyana, Third Dhyana, Fourth Dhyana, Space of Infinite, Consciousness of Infinite, Nothingness, and Neither Perception nor Non-Perception each have five nine forty-five types, totaling three hundred and sixty types. Adding the Desire Realm, there are a total of four hundred and fourteen types. If each affliction of each Truth is further subdivided, it can also be divided in this way. In general, if divided comprehensively, there are nine nine eighty-one afflictions in the nine grounds. Second, regarding the afflictions to be abandoned by cultivation, which are abandoned through the path of cultivation, there are two parts: the nature and the classification. First, the nature is: whatever belongs to the category of being abandoned by the path of cultivation and is encompassed by the Truth of Suffering. Classifying it, there are the five aggregates of clinging that have transformed into the Truth of Suffering and the impure vessel world, totaling seven types. Is the Truth of Suffering to be abandoned? Because it is not to be abandoned by seeing. The first argument is established because the Truth of Suffering and it are the same. The second argument is established because the Truth of Suffering is abandoned by the Mahayana path of seeing that has exhausted... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
