If someone asks, 'What is the true realization of the abandonment of suffering in the realm of desire, that is, the Shravaka who has actually liberated from the abandonment of suffering in the realm of desire?' Answer: 'This is the definition of the Dharma-knowledge of Suffering.' What is the true realization of the abandonment of suffering in the higher realms, that is, the Shravaka who actually abandons the abandonment of suffering in the higher realms?' Answer: 'This is the definition of the Subsequent-knowledge-acceptance of Suffering.' What is the true realization of the Shravaka who has actually liberated from it?' Answer: 'This is the definition of the Subsequent-knowledge of Suffering.' Similarly, the remaining twelve items should also be understood by analogy. This is to facilitate the explanation of the objects of observation, and to explain these representative examples. In fact, according to this system, these definitions are the definitions of the first moment, the second moment, the third moment, and up to the fifteenth moment of the Shravaka's Path of Seeing.' The Path of Seeing should be analogized in this way. For the sixteenth moment, it should be added that 'it is the definition of the sixteenth moment of true realization.' If it is said to be the first moment of the Path of Seeing, then it is not universally the Acceptance of Dharma of Suffering, because in its collection, there are the undefiled precepts, as well as its attainment, and the corresponding mind and mental factors that are similar to the Acceptance of Dharma of Suffering itself, which are also the first moment of the Path of Seeing, but they are not the Acceptance of Dharma of Suffering, because they are not wisdom. Please understand this for other situations as well. Therefore, the sixteen moments of knowledge-acceptance are what is realized by seeing, and the corresponding mind and mental factors are what is realized by the object of observation, and the undefiled precepts and attainments in its collection are what is realized by action. As the *Abhidharmakosha* says: 'True realization is, the sixteen moments of the mind. Among them, fifteen moments, are the path of seeing for seeing what has not been seen.' And 'seeing, object of observation, action.' According to the view of the *Collected Topics*, the true realization of the abandonment of suffering, that is, the Shravaka who actually abandons the abandonment of suffering, is the definition of the Acceptance of Dharma of Suffering. The path of liberation or true realization that actually liberates from it is the definition of the Knowledge of Dharma of Suffering. The beginning of the Knowledge of Dharma of Suffering, immediately following, takes the Acceptance of Dharma and Knowledge of Dharma as its objects of observation, and guides the two to become the cause of the Dharma of the Noble Ones, such true realization of the Shravaka is the definition of the Subsequent-knowledge-acceptance of Suffering. Immediately following it, taking it as its object of observation, the true realization of the Shravaka that completely cuts off its nature is the definition of the Subsequent-knowledge of Suffering. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That is its characteristic. By analogy, apply this to the following ten as well. According to the *Abhisamayalankara* (Ornament of Clear Realization), the clear realization of the truth of the Hearer, which first obtains the ability to induce definite understanding on the impermanence of the truth of suffering, is the characteristic of the Suffering Dharma-patience. Similarly, please say that the clear realization of the truth of the Hearer, which first obtains the ability to induce definite understanding on the impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness of the truth of suffering; the cause, origin, intense arising, and condition of the truth of origin; the cessation, peace, excellence, and definite emergence of the truth of cessation; and the path, reason, practice, and definite issuing of the truth of the path, is the characteristic of the Subsequent Knowledge of the Path. Furthermore, dividing from the perspective of the path, there are three: the Path of No Obstruction, the Path of Liberation, and the Path of Distinction. In the *Abhidharma*, the eight patiences are the Path of No Obstruction, and the eight knowledges are the Path of Liberation. As stated in the *Kosa*: 'Patience and knowledge in order, are the Path of No Obstruction and the Path of Liberation.' In the Higher *Abhidharma*, the four Dharma-knowledges are the Path of Liberation, and the Subsequent Patience and Subsequent Knowledge are explained as the Path of Distinction. In the *Ornament*, it is asserted that only the Suffering Dharma-knowledge is the Path of No Obstruction, and the remaining fifteen are both the Path of Liberation and the Path of Distinction. Dividing from the perspective of the individual who is the basis, there are two: the Path of Seeing of the stream-enterer and the Path of Seeing of the fruition-stainer. The first is further divided into three: the Path of Seeing of the stream-enterer-entrant, the once-returner-entrant, and the non-returner-entrant. Each of these fifteen includes from the Suffering Dharma-patience to the Subsequent Patience of the Path. The second is divided into three: the Path of Seeing of the stream-enterer-fruition-stainer, the once-returner-fruition-stainer who has previously abandoned attachment, and the non-returner-fruition-stainer. These three are definitely only the sixteenth, the Subsequent Knowledge of the Path. Furthermore, dividing from the perspective of lineage, there are two: the Path of Seeing of those temporarily determined to be Hearer-lineage and the Path of Seeing of those whose lineage is undetermined. The third quality is that, although the *Kosa* states that the eightfold noble path is attained, here the seven branches of enlightenment are attained. These seven are: mindfulness, discrimination of phenomena, diligence, joy, pliancy, concentration, and equanimity. These seven are the seven branches of enlightenment. Furthermore, there is the ability to abandon what is to be abandoned by seeing, belonging to the assembly of noble ones, being a true renunciate, and being a field of merit for the world. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
