In order to rely on (the Guru) to recognize the Dharmakaya (chos kyi sku), when you are about to die, if you still have the strength, keep your body in a straight sitting posture, and have a disciple or friend support you from behind. After I die, if you can keep my body, keep it for three days; if you can't, keep it for one day, and absolutely do not move it. Then, visualize a chakra (脉轮) three fingers wide, four fingers below your navel, with four lotus petals and a center in the middle. [The caregiver should also hold it steady, and if it moves slightly, the body will shake, and the light cannot be realized, so it must not be moved.] Visualize a Tibetan letter 'A' (ཨ,梵文天城体:अ,梵文罗马拟音:a,无) in the center. On the front lotus petal is the Tibetan letter 'A' (ཨ,梵文天城体:अ,梵文罗马拟音:a,无), which is red; on the right lotus petal is the Tibetan letter 'Nu' (ནུ,梵文天城体:नु,梵文罗马拟音:nu,无); on the back lotus petal is the Tibetan letter 'Ta' (ཏ,梵文天城体:त,梵文罗马拟音:ta,无); on the left lotus petal is the Tibetan letter 'Ra' (ར,梵文天城体:र,梵文罗马拟音:ra,无), visualize them clearly. Then, when earth dissolves into water, the caregiver will see changes in the dying person's body, such as a pale face, drooping ears, and a collapsed nose. At this time, the dying person's own consciousness will feel that all appearances and sounds are like clouds, blurry and unclear. As it says in the fourth chapter of the Kuru Sutra: 'Initially, like the appearance of clouds.' At this time, place the consciousness on the 'A' in front. Then, when water dissolves into fire, the caregiver will see the dying person's saliva and nasal mucus flowing out, and then slowly drying up. The dying person's own consciousness will feel that all appearances and sounds are like smoke, dim and unclear. As it says in the sutra: 'Secondly, like the appearance of smoke.' At this time, place the consciousness on the 'Nu' on the right. Then, when fire dissolves into wind, the caregiver will see the dying person's body temperature disappear, and the body will become cold like a stone. The dying person's own consciousness will feel that all appearances and sounds are like fireflies, very faint. As it says in the sutra: 'Thirdly, like fireflies.' At this time, place the consciousness on the 'Ta' in the back. Then, when wind dissolves into consciousness, [breathing stops in an instant.] The caregiver will see the dying person's breathing become rapid and weak. At this time, the dying person's own consciousness will feel that all appearances and sounds are like a bright lamp, clear and bright. As it says in the sutra: 'Fourthly, like a bright lamp.' At this time, place the consciousness on the 'Ra' on the left. Then, when consciousness dissolves into light --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As death approaches, in an instant [not long], the patient's breath becomes extremely subtle, thinning to the point of disappearing. At this time, the caregiver should observe that the body is motionless and there is no breathing. Then, one can only say that the patient has died. However, the consciousness of the deceased does not immediately transfer. At this time, place the consciousness on the letter A (藏文:ཨ,梵文天城体:अ,梵文罗马拟音:a,汉语字面意思:阿) in the center, and maintain the experience of previous meditation with full attention. In that moment, all sentient beings will spontaneously generate the Dharmakaya (chos sku) in their minds. If the previous meditation experience is combined with this, the fruit of Dharmakaya will be attained immediately. Furthermore, the fifth sign appears as a cloudless sky. This is the cause of omniscience (tham-cad mkhyen-pa), and it is the path to definitely grasping accomplishment. Therefore, it is said that in the Bardo (bar do), it is impossible for anything to arise. These are in accordance with the explanations of the tantras. In practice, these steps require flexibility. In the three essential points of the Three Roots (rtsa gsum), visualize the root lotus with four petals and the center in the middle. It is said that if external signs appear, it is easier to understand. Visualize the letter A (藏文:ཨ,梵文天城体:अ,梵文罗马拟音:a,汉语字面意思:阿) in the center of the middle. In front is A (藏文:ཨ,梵文天城体:अ,梵文罗马拟音:a,汉语字面意思:阿), on the right is Nu (藏文:ནུ,梵文天城体:नु,梵文罗马拟音:nu,汉语字面意思:努), behind is Ta (藏文:ཏ,梵文天城体:त,梵文罗马拟音:ta,汉语字面意思:塔), and on the left is Ra (藏文:ར,梵文天城体:र,梵文罗马拟音:ra,汉语字面意思:Ra), visualize them clearly. Whether or not signs appear, first place the consciousness on the A (藏文:ཨ,梵文天城体:अ,梵文罗马拟音:a,汉语字面意思:阿) in front, then on Nu (藏文:ནུ,梵文天城体:नु,梵文罗马拟音:nu,汉语字面意思:努), then on Ta (藏文:ཏ,梵文天城体:त,梵文罗马拟音:ta,汉语字面意思:塔), then on Ra (藏文:ར,梵文天城体:र,梵文罗马拟音:ra,汉语字面意思:Ra), and finally firmly place the consciousness on the A (藏文:ཨ,梵文天城体:अ,梵文罗马拟音:a,汉语字面意思:阿) in the center, and maintain the experience of previous meditation. In that moment, all sentient beings will spontaneously generate the Dharmakaya in their minds, and the previous meditation experience combined with this will lead to the attainment of the fruit of Dharmakaya. It is said that in this way, one will not arise in the Bardo. As a sign of realizing the Bardo, a bright, colored, contracting light will appear. Therefore, it is said that relying on the first Bardo, the clear light of death, one can recognize the Dharmakaya. Next is relying on the second Bardo, the pure and impure illusory body, to recognize the Yuganaddha body (zung 'jug). If one fails to recognize the Dharmakaya by relying on the first Bardo, the clear light of death, then after death, one will remain in the Bardo for two weeks. If one fails to recognize it in the first two weeks, it will be even more difficult to recognize it later. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
