Scholars explain that 'exclusion' (ldog) is a general concept because it is established merely on the 'bloatedness' (lto ldir ba) without distinguishing the individual exclusions. According to those who hold that 'exclusion' is encompassed by the general concept, this is indeed the case. However, according to the view that equates 'exclusion' and 'definition', the 'exclusion' established by cutting off the 'real opposite' (dngos 'gal) of a vase is the 'definition' of the vase's 'definition'. Even if the seventh phrase indicates location, there is no contradiction, because that 'bloatedness' has been established as the 'exclusion' of the vase after cutting off the vase's 'real opposite', which is 'non-vase'. Explanation of the Classification of Defects to be Eliminated The third part is the explanation of the classification of defects to be eliminated, which is divided into three parts: 3-61 Summarizing and refuting the views of others; distinguishing and explaining one's own views; and eliminating objections raised by others. Summarizing and Refuting the Views of Others Firstly, early logicians in the snowy northern region of Tibet believed that if all the defects of 'definition' are summarized, they can be grouped into three: the 'self-exclusion' (rang ldog) not being established as a 'substance' (rdzas), the 'exclusion' changing into something else, and not residing on the 'defined object' (mtshan gzhi). The 'definition' of the first is: any 'definition' that is not independently established from its own term. If distinguished, there are four cases: like stating a cow in the 'definition' of a cow, which is stating its own term as the 'definition'; like stating the head of a cow, which is stating something qualified by its own term; and stating other terms and what is qualified by them. The 'definition' of the second is: any 'definition' that, although independently established from its own term, is not the 'exclusion' of what it indicates. If distinguished, there are four cases: impossible, non-pervasive, over-extensive, and co-extensive 'exclusions' changing into something else. The 'defined objects' are, in order: like stating 'bloatedness' in the 'definition' of a cow; like stating a motley color including a hump, etc., in the 'definition' of a cow; 3-62 like stating the ability to perform a function in the 'definition' of a cow; and like stating arising in the 'definition' of impermanence. The 'definition' of the third is: any 'definition' that, although independently established from its own term, does not reside on the 'basis' of what it indicates as it should reside. If distinguished, there are four cases: not residing due to contradiction; not residing due to the 'self-exclusion' being undifferentiated; not residing due to the 'exclusion' being undifferentiated; and not residing due to not pervading one aspect of the 'defined object'. The first is: like stating a mane when defining a horse as a cow. The second is: like stating a mane when defining a mane as a cow. The third is: like stating a mane when defining a cow as a cow. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For example, considering an animal as merely a cow and applying a hidden cover. The fourth is like applying a hidden cover to representing an animal as merely a cow.' It is said. If we summarize the flaws of that definition, the northerners claim there are three.' This statement appears. The second part is to refute it, divided into two: summarizing and showing the harm of reason, and summarizing and showing the harm of scripture. The first part is: Is the flaw you mentioned based on applying the combination or not applying the combination? If it's the former, then when emptiness is represented as non-affirming negation, if abandoning the object to be proven is stated as a characteristic, then it should not be its characteristic, because it leads to the flaw of impossible meaning reversal and change, because abandoning the object to be proven is impossible in the self-nature of non-affirming negation, because non-affirming negation is not abandoning the object to be proven, because non-affirming negation is not non-affirming negation. If it is said that it is not universally applicable that it is impossible in the self-nature of non-affirming negation, because if abandoning the object to be proven does not exist in the basis reversal or example of non-affirming negation, then the flaw of meaning reversal and change will not occur merely in the self-nature, then the flaw of meaning reversal and change will become meaningless, because the flaw of impossible meaning reversal and change is included in the flaw of not existing in the example. If it is said that the flaw of the definition is based on not applying the combination, then it is meaningless to explain the flaw of not existing in the example, because all the flaws of the definition are based on not applying to the example, because in not applying to the example, there is no other flaw of not existing in the example.' It is explained: If flaws are applied after applying the combination, meaning reversal and change will disappear. If flaws are applied without applying the combination, the flaw of not existing in the example will become meaningless. The second part is summarizing and showing the harm of scripture: These flaws such as not being established as self-nature substance, etc., Dharma, these flaws in definition, Dharmakirti and his son did not mention in any of the sutras and seven treatises.' It is explained: If these are considered flaws, then why don't the crown jewels of the wise accept them?' The following is distinguishing and explaining one's own view, explaining the root. The second part is summarizing and explaining one's own view, divided into explaining the root and explaining the commentary. The first part is: Knowable objects, the flaws in definition are definitely three: the flaw of non-pervasiveness, the flaw of over-pervasiveness, and the flaw of impossibility, because the definition of that Dharma is... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
