If one thinks that there is absolutely no difference between negation and exclusion, then there is a very great difference between the two. If 'it' is a non-possessive exclusion of 'vase', then if 'vase' is 'it', it must be pervasive. If 'it' is a non-existent exclusion of 'vase', then it is sufficient for 'it' and 'vase' to have a common basis. This point must be remembered. Then, if the statement 'vase is only it' is taken as the subject of the statement, 'you' must be 'it', because 'you' are a non-possessive exclusion of 'vase', because 'you' are a statement of non-possessive exclusion of 'vase'. If you say that, this is not pervasive here. Then, if the statement 'non-existence can exist as knowable' is taken as the subject of the statement, 'you' must be a non-existent exclusion of 'non-existence', because 'you' are a statement of non-existent exclusion of 'non-existence'. This is pervasive. If you accept that, then 'you' would be something that exists in 'non-existence'. Secondly, the object to be signified includes: definition, example, and ascertainment of terminology. Firstly, regarding summarization, subsequent, and subordinate aspects, saying that possessing the three qualities of imputation, existence, and dharma is the definition of the object to be signified is not very meaningful. However, according to our own system, the sound that signifies with reason and is known to be established is the definition of the object to be signified. Secondly, an example is like a thing, where the ability to perform a function is taken as the reason, and the sound that expresses 'thing' and the term that conceives 'it is a thing' are the basis for applying meanings that are in accordance with each other. Thirdly, there are three aspects to ascertaining terminology: the terminology of expression through sound, the terminology of cognition through mind, and the terminology of acceptance and rejection through body. The terminology of expression through sound and the sound that expresses are the same in meaning. The terminology of cognition through mind and the cognition are the same in meaning. The terminology of acceptance and rejection through body and the form of the body's manifestation are the same in meaning. Examples of the bases are, respectively: if the term 'vase' is applied to a bulging belly, then the sound that expresses 'this golden bulging belly is a vase', the cognition that 'it is a vase', and the shape of the body that is involved in the acceptance and rejection of a vase. Thirdly, the basis includes two aspects: definition and division. Firstly, that which serves as the basis for the unity of the name and the named is the definition of the basis. When applied to the basis, that which serves as the basis for both the ability to perform a function and the thing is the definition of the basis of the thing. For example, a vase is considered the basis of a thing, because on top of the differentiating basis of the vase, both the aspect of the differentiating characteristic of the ability to perform a function and the aspect of the thing are fully present. Secondly, the division includes: the basis that is defined, such as considering a golden vase as the basis of a vase; and imputation. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The second chapter, like using a sandalwood pillar as the base of a vase, there are two situations. (Third) Regarding the individual characteristics of the three dharmas, there are three points: the determination of self-nature, the manner of how they are related, and the characteristics that each represents. The first point is: roughly speaking, an object is what is to be explained, its function is its definition, and a vase is its basis. Therefore, name, what is to be explained, and basis all have both things and non-things. In detail, name, what is to be explained, and basis are all considered purely non-things, which is a secret term in logic. Because in detail, in the conceptualization that holds a vase, excluding what is not a vase becomes the object to be explained as 'fullness'; and in the conceptualization that holds 'fullness,' excluding what is not 'fullness' becomes the definition of the vase. Therefore, as the Great Being said, in the 'Treasury of Tenets': 'Therefore, the aspect of appearance is, not the three dharmas, excluding them, in the self-nature of the three dharmas, affirmation and negation, both exist.' This can be known from that. The second point is the manner of relation, divided into the actual manner of relation and the valid means of determining the relation. The first point is: a relationship of self-nature must be established between the name and what is to be explained, because the name and what is to be explained are the same in self-nature. For example, a thing and its function are the same in self-nature, and a function and a thing are also the same in self-nature. The relationship between the basis and what is to be explained is only a temporary relationship, because the basis and what is to be explained are the same in self-nature, but what is to be explained and the basis are not necessarily the same in self-nature. For example, a vase and a thing are the same in self-nature, but a thing and a vase are not necessarily the same. However, there is also a relationship of self-nature between the basis and what is to be explained, for example, when using momentariness to represent that a thing is impermanent, a thing and impermanence are the same in self-nature. The second point is the valid means of determining the relation. The relation between the name and what is to be explained can be determined through self-awareness, because the conceptual experience that arises from mixing the general essence of a vase and the general sound of fullness, the direct perception of self-awareness, can guide the determination of the relation between the vase and fullness. The relation between the basis and what is to be explained can be determined when a scholar who is proficient in the relation between the name and what is to be explained sees the definition of fullness on a golden vase, giving rise to the direct perception of 'this is a vase.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
