I assert that it is a pratijñāhetu (ང་ཟག་, pratijñāhetu, reason as assertion, referring to using the assertion as the reason). Because it is not pervasive (མ་ཁྱབ་པ་, avyāpaka, non-pervasive), therefore it is a true proof (རྟགས་དངོས།, satyasādhanā, true proof). If you concede, then you must be a person (གང་ཟག་, pudgala, person) who has a definitive understanding (ངེས་ཟིན་ངེས་པ, niścayajñāna, definitive understanding) of the three aspects (ཚུལ་གསུམ་, trairūpya, three aspects) regarding that topic (དེ་སྐོར་, de-skor, about that) with decisive knowledge (བཅད་ཤེས་, ched-shes, decisive knowledge). Why do you concede? Because you are not a person who has inference (རྗེས་དཔག་, anumāna, inference) with a definitive understanding of the three aspects regarding that topic. If you concede, then you must be a person who has recollection (དྲན་པ, smṛti, recollection) of the three aspects regarding that topic. If the latter is not established, then there must be an inference with a definitive understanding of the three aspects regarding that topic. If you concede, then there must be an inference that has comprehended (རྟོགས་ཟིན་, avagata, comprehended) the three aspects regarding that topic. How could you concede? Furthermore, regarding the pure opponent (ཕྱི་རྒོལ་རྣམ་དག་, paravādin viśuddha, pure opponent) concerning that topic, as the result (འབྲས་བུ, phala, result) of being the proximate cause (ཉེར་ལེན་, upādāna, proximate cause) of extreme foolishness (བླུན་པོ, bāla, foolish): you must be a person who has definitively understood the three aspects of that topic with the decisive knowledge of your own continuum (རྒྱུད་, saṃtāna, continuum). You are an ordinary being (སོ་སོ་སྐྱེ་བོ, pṛthagjana, ordinary being) who has definitively understood the three aspects of that topic, because you are not a person who has definitively understood the three aspects of that topic with the inference of your continuum. If you concede, then you must be a person who remembers the three aspects of that topic, which is unavoidable. If the latter is as before, then regarding the pure opponent concerning that topic: your second moment (སྐད་ཅིག་མ, kṣaṇa, moment) must be a person in whom an inference has arisen with the sign (རྟགས་ཅན, liṅga, sign) of understanding sound as impermanent (སྒྲ་མི་རྟག་, śabda anitya, sound impermanent). You either have a second moment, because you are a person on the verge of generating an inference with the sign of understanding sound as impermanent, so it is not pervasive. If it is not established, then there must be, because you are a person on the verge of generating an inference with the sign of understanding sound as impermanent from the sign of being produced (བྱས་, kṛta, produced), because you are a pure opponent concerning that topic who remembers all three aspects of that topic. If the first is not established, then there must be, because on the basis (རྟེན་, āśraya, basis) of the pure opponent concerning that topic who remembers the property of the subject (ཕྱོགས་ཆོས, pakṣadharma, property of the subject) of that topic but does not remember the pervasion (ཁྱབ་ཚུལ, vyāpti, pervasion) of that topic, the pure opponent concerning that topic who has just remembered the three aspects of that topic is that one. If it is not established, then there must be, because the pure opponent concerning that topic who remembers the property of the subject of that topic but does not remember the pervasion of that topic is the first moment of the pure opponent concerning that topic. If it is not established, then there must be, because the person who is the proximate cause of that is not the pure opponent concerning that topic. If it is not established, then there must be the third moment of the pure opponent concerning that topic, the result of the proximate cause of the first moment of the pure opponent concerning that topic is that... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
