Then, should the argument of arguing be abandoned because the debater deviates from his own promised commitment? Regarding the object of knowledge, when the two debaters are arguing, the previous particular debater did not abandon the argument, because at that time he did not commit to the argument of sound being permanent as proof that sound is permanent or impermanent. To this, it is said: 'Then should the argument be abandoned at that time?' The answer is: 'It is not, because there was no commitment at that time.' If someone says: 'The particular debater committed to the argument of sound being permanent as a valid proof, because he committed to that argument as a valid argument, because the two of them were studying the meaning of the argument of sound being permanent.' If it is said like that, then the particular debater, when arguing, even if he generally committed to the argument of sound being permanent as a valid argument, this object of arguing whether the meaning of the argument of sound being permanent on sound is permanent or impermanent, you the argument of sound being permanent is not a component of proving that sound is permanent or impermanent, i.e., it is not the actual time of committing to a valid proof, Because that is the method or component of examining whether committing to a valid proof is reasonable or not, because studying the meaning of the argument and then committing to the argument as a valid proof is the style of the wise, and committing to the argument and then studying the meaning of the argument is the style of the foolish. To this, it is said: 'This is the method of commitment, even if it exists at that time, it is not a component.' Here, the wise Shakya Chokden says: 'This previous position is committed to by the later Tibetan scholars, because they say that the *Pramanavarttika* contradicts the commitment to sound being permanent, while committing to the *Pramanavarttika* as a valid argument.' 'Then what should be done?' It should be said that it contradicts the power of things, because sound is impermanent, being the second object of measurement, so one's own position cannot be proven by argument, nor can the wrong position be harmed by argument. If someone thinks: 'Then didn't our omniscient Panchen Master say that all seemingly arguments obstruct the clinging object of self-contradictory commitments, and all pure arguments harm the clinging object of self-contradictory commitments?' There is no error, the Panchen Master's sectarian position, there is one position that is easy to cultivate for new students, And there is also a position that cultivates the flow of scripture through excellent wisdom, these two positions are crucial. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Therefore. Second, establishing the object to be proven based on scripture. Well, if, as stated above, 'Inference is its own domain, not relying on scripture,' then it is already understood that in the first two objects of measurement (referring to the scope of what can be known by direct perception and inference), scripture is not allowed as a basis for establishment or refutation. In general, is there a time and place where scripture can be used as a basis for establishment or refutation? If so, what is it like? Listen to me. The pure scripture, as a treatise, has the property of being a valid means of knowledge (pramāṇa, प्रमाण, प्रमाण,量) at a time when you are acknowledged as such, that is, when the object to be proven, which you need to establish, has been thoroughly examined by the means of valid cognition for both the manifest and the hidden, as mentioned above, and is pure after the first two examinations. At that time, you wish to be fully regarded as a valid means of knowledge for the object to be proven, which is the appropriate time. Therefore, the pure scripture, as a treatise, has the property of also having a place where you can be used as a basis for refutation and establishment, that is, after the first two examinations have been purified, you can establish what is extremely hidden, and you can refute its opposite. Thus, when both places are pure, the treatise can be fully embraced. When one wishes to embrace it, that is the time when the treatise can also refute. Therefore, when examining extremely hidden things, one should not accept views that contradict the pure scripture, because one must protect the meaning established by the pure scripture from being harmed by scripture. This is explained as: It is not reasonable to think of contradiction with what it has established. In summary, there are three objects of measurement and three means of measuring them. In the first two objects of measurement, pure scripture should not be allowed as a means of establishment, because in the first two objects of measurement, each means of measurement has already measured and completed its task, and these two means are sufficient. If these two examinations are still not satisfactory and the examination is moved to the third object of measurement, then accepting the pure scripture as a treatise as a means of establishment is reasonable. This is explained as: If it is moved to the third place, accepting the treatise is reasonable. So, how should one accept pure scripture as a basis for establishing extremely hidden things? In the third object of measurement, which is the extremely hidden, the pure scripture, for the dharma you want to know, the object to be proven itself, or the dharma to be proven... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
