Thus it is said. Secondly, refuting it is divided into two parts: the example and reason are not established, leading to becoming the thesis to be proven, and repeating one's own sound becomes meaningless. The first case is when claiming that the example and reason are not established. For example, a Buddhist who is uncertain whether sound and a pot are created, when stating 'Sound is the subject, it is impermanent because it is created, like a pot,' the example and reason are not established, which would also lead to becoming the basis for establishing that sound is impermanent using the reason of 'being created,' because it conforms to the meaning of the Buddhist scriptures. 2-267 When explaining 'pervasion is promised,' it says: 'The example and reason are not established, it will lead to becoming the thesis.' Thus it is said. To this, if someone says: 'Using the reason of 'being created' to establish that sound is permanent, the example and reason that are not established, which are stated as part of the argument, this subject, you are not the true thesis established for others regarding that aspect, because you are cutting off that you are the true thesis established for others, in the *Compendium of Topics*, when explaining the definition of a thesis, because the word 'intention' is mentioned.' When explaining, it says: 'If the argument itself is stated, it is not because intention is mentioned.' Thus it is said. Here, some people connect 'because intention is mentioned when explaining the definition of a thesis' with *The Door of Reasoning*, this is not understanding the key point, because even the word 'intention' explained from the *Compendium of Topics* can cut off that the example and reason that are used as arguments are the true thesis to be proven at that time, this is the intention of the scripture. Therefore, as it appears in the *Pramāṇavārttika*, it would be sufficient to just say 'because non- is mentioned,' but it is said 'because non-intention is mentioned.' In order to refute it, the example and reason that are not established, which are the meaning of the Buddhist scriptures, this subject, you are not the true thesis that is excluded from the word 'intention,' that is, you are the true thesis, because this is the meaning of the scripture of the promised treatise that you yourself have proposed, this is obtained or established through reasoning. It is explained as: 'The thesis obtained through reasoning is not excluded from the word.' Thus it is said. To this, someone again says: 'The example and reason that are used as arguments are not established, this subject, you are not the true thesis at that time, because the opponent at that time does not consider it an argument, but a thesis.' Then, the opponent Buddhist does not admit establishment, and other dharmas that are not the meaning of the Buddhist scriptures are also subjects. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A: You cannot be the proponent at that time, because you are not what the opponent at that time wants to establish. If you admit it, then, as the subject, what will happen to the contradiction of the sign at that time that harms you, or will it not happen? Because you are not the proponent at that time. As the verse says: 'Not wanting is not the proponent, the opponent does not want others, not establishing at that time, what contradiction is there in not establishing.' In most of the commentaries here, It is unreasonable to associate the permanent dharma that the opponent does not want to establish with sound permanence, because this can be answered with 'admit' by the disciples of Dignāga. Second, the inference that saying the word 'self' is meaningless is: Teacher Dignāga, the word 'self' that you said for the component of the correct aspect for the benefit of others also becomes meaningless, because outside the five components of the aspect of the correct, having external meaning, that is, what it cuts off, all the statements of the author of the treatise that the former opponent himself at that time did not want to establish are the correct proponent at that time. The reason has been admitted, and the pervasion is established. If you admit it, then it is explained that the school of Dignāga does not admit it. As the verse says: 'Outside the aspect of the correct, the sound of self also, the meaning becomes meaningless.' May those who have the karma rejoice, others do not understand. The following is the content of refuting other people's views and refuting them one by one with reasoning. Starting from the discussion here, because it cannot bear the reasoning of 'the sound of self also, the meaning becomes meaningless', it is necessary to prevent the four different understandings of the word 'self' that appear in other theories of the Dignāga school. Moreover, from another point of view, when determining the necessity of the word 'self', There are two kinds of views: Dharmakīrti's own view and the views of other people in the Dignāga school. In Dharmakīrti's own view, the necessity of the word 'self' has two kinds: common and uncommon, and two kinds applied to distinguishing different kinds and eliminating wrong views. These have been said a lot above, and will be said later. Now we will talk about the second main chapter, which is to refute other people's views, divided into four points: refuting the saying of the word 'self' in order to let the opponent understand the acceptance and rejection; refuting the saying of the word 'self' in order to establish the manifestation recognized by both sides of the dispute; refuting the saying of the word 'self' in order to deny the established proponent; refuting the saying of the word 'self' in order to deny the subject proponent. The first point, some followers of Dignāga said, 'the sound of self also, the meaning becomes meaningless'. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
