If it is perception, then your (opponent's) mind should be perception, because your mind is perception. Not pervasive (ma khyab). If you admit, then the meaning-knowing (don rig) mind should be perception. If the opponent does not admit the pervasiveness, then the perception in the literal meaning of your (opponent's) tenet should be perception, because the perception existing in the literal meaning of your (opponent's) tenet, because you are the perception observed by the valid cognition in its literal meaning. 2-164 Because there is the fault of interjection, it is not pervasive. For that reason, it should be so, because you are the perception that is the object of measurement (gzhal bya) of the valid cognition in its literal meaning, because you are a distinction of the meaning-knowing mind, the perception that is the object of measurement. If you say so, then you (the opponent) yourself, as the subject of inference, should be perception, because you (the opponent) are the valid cognition in the literal meaning of 'perception is free from conceptualization' (mngon sum rtog dang bral bar ni), because it is the valid cognition existing in its literal meaning, because it is the valid cognition observed by the valid cognition in its literal meaning. It is the same. Furthermore, self-awareness (rang rig) as the subject, you (the opponent) should be the perception in the literal meaning of 'the former two have both explanation and entry' (snga ma gnyis la bshad 'jug gnyis ka yod la), because you are either sense perception (dbang mngon) or mental perception (yid mngon). If you do not admit the pervasiveness, because the mental perception distinguished by the four perceptions (mngon sum bzhi) is only the meaning-knowing mental perception. If you admit, then you (the opponent) should be the perception that exists in the etymological explanation that 'the Sanskrit word for perception is pratīmakṣa' (mngon sum gyi skad dod pra ti ma ksho). If you admit, then you (the opponent) should be either the perception that arises depending on your own uncommon enabling condition (bdag rkyen) the physical sense faculty (gzugs can pa), or the perception that arises depending on your own uncommon enabling condition the mental faculty (yid dbang). 2-165 If the opponent does not admit the fundamental pervasiveness, then the perception in the literal meaning of 'the latter two only have entry' (phyi ma gnyis la 'jug pa 'ba' zhig go) must not be the perception in the literal meaning of 'the former two have both explanation and entry' (snga ma gnyis la bshad 'jug gnyis ka yod la), because if it is self-awareness, it must not be the perception in the literal meaning of 'the former two have both explanation and entry'. If the pervasiveness is not admitted here, then there should be pervasiveness in exclusion, if it is the perception in the literal meaning of 'the former two have both explanation and entry', then it must necessarily be that the etymological explanation of perception has both explanation and entry. If it is the perception in the literal meaning of 'the latter two only have entry', then it must necessarily be that the word for perception only has entry, and no explanation. If the opponent admits the root, then let the sense perception of grasping form in the continuum of the noble Buddha (sangs 'phags) come. If it cannot be established, then it should be so. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Because you are either realization or yogic direct perception, it is not all-pervasive here. For the former two, there are both explanation and that which is explained. By showing that both explanation and that which is explained exist for artha-pratyakṣa (meaning direct perception) and sva-saṃvedana-pratyakṣa (self-awareness direct perception), it implies that the latter two only have that which is explained. The so-called latter two, are based on the existence of artha-pratyakṣa, in order to understand sva-saṃvedana-pratyakṣa and yogic direct perception. If one has discernment, then that is enough. Some who do not have complete wisdom, fearing that they will be harmed by this fault, say that there is no artha-pratyakṣa in the continuum of the Buddhas and Noble Ones. This is unreasonable, because there is divine eye direct perception in the continuum of the Buddhas and Noble Ones. This is because there are Buddhas and Noble Ones who possess the six superknowledges. If one claims to be a Buddhist but does not admit this from one's own mouth, then that is too much. Some, wanting to protect this fault, say that the visual sense direct perception in the continuum of the Buddhas and Noble Ones, is produced relying on samādhi (concentration) as the coemergent condition, so it is not produced from the rūpīndriya (form sense faculty) of the coemergent condition. This is unreasonable. Because you are produced relying on the rūpīndriya that is the coemergent condition, because you are a sense consciousness, because you are a sense direct perception. If it is not all-pervasive because it is a sense consciousness, then the divine eye direct perception in the continuum of the Buddhas and Noble Ones, is produced relying on the rūpīndriya that is the coemergent condition, because you are produced relying on the visual sense faculty that is the coemergent condition, because you are produced relying on the divine eye sense faculty that is the coemergent condition, because you are the divine eye direct perception. To this, the opponent argues that the divine eye direct perception in the continuum of the Buddhas and Noble Ones, is a direct perception produced relying on the divine eye sense faculty included in any of the four dhyānas (meditative absorptions), because you are the divine eye direct perception. This is pervasive, because 'the form of the dhyāna ground is clear, always complete with support and without deficiency', because the meaning of the scripture is established, so it is impossible not to be pervasive. If one admits it at the root, then you are a contaminated direct perception. Furthermore, the visual sense direct perception in the continuum of the Buddhas and Noble Ones, is not produced relying on the rūpīndriya that is the coemergent condition, because you are produced relying on samādhi, so it is not all-pervasive. If one admits it as the reason, then you are in the continuum of the Buddhas and Noble Ones. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
