It is necessary to understand the key points of each philosophical school. According to the Kashmir school of Sarvastivada: The ultimate particle of matter (dravya-paramāṇu) is an indivisible (without directional parts) atom, and two indivisible atoms combine into one entity. Because it is not composed of matter, it is not corporeal and is not matter. Therefore, the form aggregate (rūpa-skandha), form (rūpa), corporeal (rūpin), and substance (dravya) are essentially the same. So, the ultimate particle of matter is not the form aggregate, nor is it any of the five aggregates (pañca-skandha), twelve sense bases (dvādaśa-āyatana), or eighteen elements (aṣṭādaśa-dhātu), but it is indeed compounded (saṃskṛta), which they acknowledge. This is a self-contradiction in their doctrine, and they cannot find a way to resolve it. Therefore, the Sautrāntika here also, because of clinging to the true existence of external objects, is plagued by the demon of self-contradiction, presenting a picture of fixing one thing but neglecting another. But for the time being, they acknowledge it this way: that which is produced from the cause of particles located in the center and six directions, composed of particles, is the characteristic of a coarse particle. The compositional basis of a coarse particle is a particle that exists independently, which is the characteristic of a subtle particle. Therefore, the subtle particle (paramāṇu), unimpeded particle, invisible particle, ultimate particle, indivisible atom, directionless atom, and material atom are essentially the same. Therefore, the ultimate limit of corporeal things mentioned in 'form, name, time, edge, dust, and letter' (rūpa nāma kāla anta reṇu akṣara), the Sarvastivadins believe that it must contain eight particles, so it is coarse and not a particle with the characteristics of a subtle particle. But here in the Sautrāntika school, it is considered a particle with the characteristics of a subtle particle, and seven such particles gather together to form one particle, and that which is called a particle is coarse. Therefore, the name of the particle at that time is not a particle with the characteristics of a subtle particle, which is difficult to acknowledge, so it can be freed from it. That's what I say. Therefore, if you classify particles, saying that lumps formed by the gathering of two or six ultimate particles are lacking in wisdom, because before seven ultimate particles gather, it is indivisible, and if two gather, it becomes divisible. Therefore, there are no particles between two particles gathering but not gathering into three, or six gathering but not gathering into seven, because when seven particles gather, they gather simultaneously, not gradually. Therefore, it is only when seven ultimate particles gather that they transform into a coarse substance, while six or fewer ultimate particles are still particles. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

虽然有‘彼所依’(དེ་རྟེན་བཅས་,with its support)和‘彼同分’(དེ་མཚུངས་,homogeneous with it)两种,但普遍是粗大和有碍的。

Even the term 'earth' (ས་པའི་, earth element) cannot be obtained. 2-146 Having completed the gross (རགས་པ་, gross), one does not utter the absurd claim that its aggregate contains an unparalleled atom (རྡུལ་ཕྲ་རབ་, atom). This is entirely due to the blessings of the deities and holy gurus, and the grace of discerning wisdom! Now, if one were to classify the atom, would one also acknowledge the five objects (དོན་ལྔ་, five objects) such as form (གཟུགས་, form), and the eight substances (རྡུལ་རྫས་བརྒྱད་, eight substances) such as earth, water, fire, and wind? Only the Vaibhashikas (བྱེ་བྲག་སྨྲ་བ་, Vaibhashika) do not acknowledge this. As for what the Sautrantikas (མདོ་སྡེ་པ་, Sautrantika) say, it needs to be examined and is temporarily reserved. If one were to classify the gross atom, there are two types: external gross atoms and internal gross atoms. Alternatively, there are two types: gross atoms of form that are causes and gross atoms of form that are effects. In the first classification, external gross atoms have the five objects such as form; internal gross atoms have the five sense faculties (དབང་པོ་ལྔ་, five sense faculties) such as the eye. Although the five sense faculties such as the eye are corporeal (གཟུགས་ཅན་, corporeal), in the view of the Sautrantikas, they are not form. Although there are 'that which has its support' (དེ་རྟེན་བཅས་, with its support) and 'that which is homogeneous with it' (དེ་མཚུངས་, homogeneous with it), they are generally gross and obstructive. For the five objects such as form, it seems necessary to acknowledge that they are generally gross and obstructive, as the Vaibhashikas do. In any case, the key point is that gross atoms, obstructive objects, aggregate atoms, and atoms containing aggregate atoms are all the same. 2-147 Then, if it is a source (སྐྱེད་མཆེད་, source) of form, is it universally an object of apprehension (གཟུང་དོན་, object of apprehension)? Some say: Not universally, because there are also similar sources of form here. However, this is the case in the sects that follow the scriptures and in the view of the Vaibhashikas, but not in the sects that follow reason, because the two lords of reasoning (རིགས་པའི་དབང་ཕྱུག་, lords of reasoning, referring to Dignaga and Dharmakirti) did not say so. Therefore, the source of form is universally an object of apprehension, and the source of sound is also universally an object of apprehension, because there is no sound that cannot be heard by the sound-perceiving sense consciousness (སྒྲ་འཛིན་དབང་མངོན་, sound-perceiving sense consciousness), which is its own effect. Some say: Not universally, because there is no direct perception of hearing sounds and seeing forms within Mount Meru. This is not established, because there are many people who see them with eye consciousness and hear them with ear consciousness. If this is not the case, then you cannot acknowledge the view that 'if it is a conditioned phenomenon (འདུས་བྱས་, conditioned phenomena), it universally has the ability to produce its own effect,' because the momentary (སྐད་ཅིག་མ་, momentary) form at the end of the kalpa (བསྐལ་པ་འཇིག་དུས་, time of destruction) has no parts, and it produces neither its own effect—matter, nor its own effect—consciousness. The second classification, gross atoms of form that are causes, are: 2-148 The four elements (འབྱུང་བ་བཞི་, four elements) are... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
