Because he is of dull faculties. Therefore, the path of the lower ground (referring to the desire realm and the unreleased concentration of the form realm) of the follower of Dharma is particularly superior, because he is of sharp faculties. Similarly, the fourth dhyana ground of the follower of Dharma is the same as the path of the lower ground of the follower of Dharma. Similarly, the fourth dhyana ground of the follower of faith and the follower of Dharma, those themselves, with the path of cultivation and the path of no more learning of the lower ground, each in the difference of faculties and ground, are either the same or particularly superior, should be combined in this way. However, the seer of the path of seeing of the fourth dhyana, compared to the follower of Dharma, in the cultivator of the lower ground, the follower of faith and the Arhat of the lower ground, although there is deficiency in terms of dull faculties, these two deficiencies do not act as the equal cause of the superior one, because the path of cultivation and the path of no more learning do not act as the equal cause of the path of seeing. The latter two paths should also be understood in this way, because there is too much content, so it is omitted. Second, regarding the difference of causes: the higher ground of the six dhyana grounds, the path of seeing, through the forbearance of suffering Dharma, by increasing the knowledge of suffering Dharma of the lower ground, appears superior, because the forbearance of suffering Dharma of the higher ground has no equal cause, and the knowledge of suffering Dharma of the lower ground is increased by the forbearance of suffering Dharma as the equal cause. Therefore, the forbearance of suffering Dharma of the higher ground is one equal cause of the knowledge of suffering Dharma of the lower ground. Similarly, the path of seeing of the higher ground is more superior than the path of cultivation and the path of no more learning of the lower ground, through the way of increasing the cause, because the path of seeing of the higher ground only has the path of seeing as the equal cause, and the path of cultivation and the path of the lower ground are increased through the way of two or three equal causes. Therefore, the path of seeing of the higher ground is one equal cause of the path of cultivation and the path of no more learning of the lower ground. As it is said in the 'Entering the Bodhisattva's Way of Life': 'The forbearance of the Dharma of suffering of the higher ground is more superior than the Dharma of suffering of the lower ground, through the way of increasing the cause.' From 'The path of seeing of the higher ground is more superior than the path of cultivation of the lower ground, through the way of increasing the cause, the path of seeing is increased by the cause of the path of seeing, the path of cultivation...' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is said, 'The causes and conditions of the 'path of seeing' and 'path of cultivation' have been elaborated in detail. Through the door of the path of seeing of the six dhyanas, they are the same; through the path of cultivation of the nine grounds and the path of no more learning, they are also the same in terms of cause, because they are equal in terms of the common cause of augmentation, whether more or less.' From the 'Bodhisattva Conduct': 'The path of seeing of the higher ground and the path of cultivation of the lower ground, relying on the sameness of moments, are the same in terms of the augmentation of causes and conditions; the path of cultivation and the path of cultivation, the path of no more learning and the path of no more learning are also the same.' Therefore, it must be admitted that although they are not mutual co-operative results, they have one common co-operative cause. The key is in the following. Examples will also be explained. Furthermore, there are paths etc. that are the same in terms of faculty (sense power), but are superior in terms of the augmentation of causes and conditions; or the faculty is inferior, but the path is superior in terms of the augmentation of causes and conditions. From the 'Bodhisattva Conduct': 'Some lower grounders are the same in terms of faculty, but are superior in terms of the augmentation of causes and conditions. For example, the path of faith-following of the first dhyana ground, compared to the path of faith-resolution and liberation in time of the lower ground.' Therefore, the path of faith-following of the higher ground may be a co-operative cause of the path of faith-resolution and liberation in time of the lower ground. Because they are the same in terms of faculty, but inferior in terms of path and the augmentation of causes and conditions. However, the path of faith-resolution of the higher ground, although inferior in terms of faculty to the path of dharma-following of the lower ground, it is not a co-operative cause of the path of dharma-following of the lower ground, because it is a co-operative cause of the path of seeing of the uncontaminated path of cultivation. Furthermore, the path of dharma-following of the lower ground, although inferior in terms of the augmentation of causes and conditions to the path of faith-resolution of the higher ground, it is not the cause at that time, because the path of sharp faculty does not become the cause of the path of dull faculty. Similarly, the small of the small path of cultivation of the higher ground is superior in terms of the augmentation of causes and conditions to the medium of the small path of cultivation of the lower ground, because they each have more co-operative causes. Therefore, the small of the small path of cultivation of the higher ground is a co-operative cause of the medium of the small path of cultivation of the lower ground. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
