Mind and those mutually, the characteristic of conformity following the mind and those mutually, the form with obstruction as the cause and those mutually, a small portion of the unobstructed, and all phenomena and so on. Those who have attainment and possess the attainment of co-emergence are also co-emergent, but not the cause of co-emergence, because they are not the result of maturation and the cause of conformity, and so on. Here, in the self-commentary, it is said 'the form with obstruction as the cause', there is analysis on this, because it is to know that the seven abandonments gathered by the contaminated vows, those unobstructed forms, are the cause of mutual co-emergence. As it is said in the Bodhisattva Conduct: 'Saying with obstruction is to eliminate the unobstructed, such as the nature of the unobstructed, such as the seven meditations and uncontaminated vows, they are also mutually co-emergent, and also the cause of the cause of co-emergence.' Here in the self-commentary: 'A little unobstructed.' Although there is no identification in the commentaries, as I said before, it is identified as the seven abandonments of individual liberation vows, which are not consciousness. Furthermore, the self-commentary says: 'Many doubts will be explained in the context of the lower analysis.' Third, regarding the co-equal cause, the general characteristics of co-equality are explained, the contaminated co-equality is explained separately, the uncontaminated co-equality is explained separately, and the meaning derived from it. First, the object of the past and present, which is similar to oneself and distinguishes the later co-equal, is the characteristic of the co-equal cause, because you can establish it as such. Then, what is the way of similarity in 'similar to oneself' here? There are three ways of being similar to oneself: similar to virtue, similar to affliction, and similar to unspecified. Virtue causes virtue, but not the other two. Affliction causes the co-equal cause of affliction, but not the other two. Unspecified causes the co-equal cause of unspecified, but not the co-equal cause of virtue and affliction. Virtue is also divided into two types, contaminated and uncontaminated, and the two types each cause their own co-equal cause, but the contaminated virtue does not cause the co-equal cause of the uncontaminated, because the uncontaminated moment... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Firstly, it is because there is no equal cause. For those with afflictions, although there are two types: unwholesome and obscured-unspecified, it is not necessarily required that unwholesome acts as the equal cause of unwholesome, because obscured-unspecified can also act as the equal cause of unwholesome, and unwholesome can also act as the equal cause of obscured-unspecified. As explained in the commentary: 'The equal cause is similar.' The self-commentary states: 'Similar dharmas are the equal cause of similar dharmas, for example, the five aggregates of virtue are mutually the equal cause of virtue, those with afflictions are the equal cause of those with afflictions, and unspecified are the equal cause of unspecified.' Secondly, explaining the contaminated equal cause. Then, for contaminated dharmas, is it permissible for any of the three similar dharmas to be the equal cause? It is not permissible, because contaminated dharmas are definitely the five objects to be abandoned. Therefore, for the five objects to be abandoned, each needs its own kind of object to be abandoned as the equal cause. For example, the equal cause of what is abandoned by seeing the truth of suffering must be abandoned by seeing the truth of suffering, and the equal cause of what is abandoned by meditation must be abandoned by meditation. Then, for the equal cause of the five objects to be abandoned, is it sufficient to be merely the same kind of object to be abandoned? That is also not sufficient, because the five objects to be abandoned are also definitely in the nine grounds. Therefore, the equal cause of the five objects to be abandoned that are included in the desire realm must be included in the desire realm, and the equal cause of the five objects to be abandoned that are included in the peak of existence must be included in the peak of existence. Then, for the cause of the five objects to be abandoned that are included in that ground, is it sufficient to be merely the same kind of five objects to be abandoned that are included in that ground? That is also not sufficient, because to be the equal cause of the five objects to be abandoned that are included in that ground, it must be included in that ground and be the same kind of object to be abandoned, and it must be previously produced, whether past or present. The past can act as the equal cause of the past, present, and future, the present can act as the equal cause of the present and future, and the future cannot act as the equal cause, because the future has no order of precedence. As explained in the commentary: 'Self-category, same ground, previously born.' The self-commentary states: 'For these, their own category and ground are...' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
