Where does the true path of learning arise? Answer: Immediately after falling from the state of an Arhat (Arhat, a saint who has exhausted afflictions and attained Nirvana). However, in this case, the stainless mind of learning does not arise immediately after the non-learning mind (referring to the mind of the Arhat state). Because after falling from the Arhat state, afflictions will manifest, and there is an interval of afflicted mind between these two minds. As stated in the 'Śrīmālādevī Siṃhanāda Sūtra': 'If one completely falls, why doesn't the mind of learning arise immediately? Because the arising of afflictions interrupts the continuity between them.' The wise Jamgön Ju Mipham Gyatso said: 'However, the fault of the arising of three or seven minds obscured by the three realms must be avoided.' It is perfectly reasonable to have such doubts, because when falling from the state of an Arhat, one falls due to the three afflictions of the formless realm, the form realm, and the desire realm. Immediately after falling, the unspecified afflictions obscured by the three realms will manifest. Therefore, one might suspect that after the non-learning mind, these three afflictions will arise immediately, and such doubts are likely to arise for those with wisdom. So, how to dispel such doubts? If there are knowledgeable and impartial people, please listen, and I will show you without reservation. How to show it? When falling from the state of an Arhat due to afflictions, afflictions do not manifest immediately after the non-learning stainless mind. When approaching falling from the state of an Arhat due to afflictions, one rises from the non-learning Samadhi (Samadhi, a state of concentration), and only then do afflictions manifest, thus one has already fallen from the state of an Arhat. In this way, when falling from the state of an Arhat, the non-learning Samadhi and the learning Samadhi are separated by many minds. First, the rising mind arising from the non-learning Samadhi will arise, which may be any one of the wholesome contaminated minds of the three realms. After that, the afflictions that cause the fall arise. After that, the entering mind that enters into the learning Samadhi arises, which may be any one of the wholesome contaminated minds of the three realms. After that, the stainless mind of the learning Samadhi arises, and a total of four minds will arise. Even so, it does not harm the above process of mind arising, because the minds of entering and rising in learning and non-learning are all included in those previous minds. The great scholar Dignāga and his commentators, as well as other scholars, please rest on the throne of my good words. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The previously accumulated Dharma habits awaken, unprecedented wisdom arises like the rising sun, the hundred-petaled garden of Abhidharma flourishes, and the wise bees rejoice. 'It has also been said. Therefore, it can dispel the doubt of whether afflictions arise after the stainless mind of the learner. As mentioned above, when an Arhat falls from the state, the path of learning will surely arise after the truth of the non-learning path, because the continuum of the one who has fallen from the Arhat state has the attainment of the non-learning path. Because the continuum of the learner who has just fallen from that state has the attainment of the truth of the learning path. If not, then he has already given up the attainment of the non-learning path, therefore it would be a fallacy that he is not a noble being. Thus, the twelve types of minds have been explained. Secondly, dividing the mind into twenty types. The previous twelve types of minds can also be transformed into twenty types, that is, each of the three virtues of the three realms is divided into two types: innate and acquired. For the unobscured and unspecified, there are four types: resultant birth, behavioral path, craftsman's place, and transformation mind. In the desire realm, all four are complete. In the form realm, three are complete except for craftsmanship. Therefore, there are eight minds in the desire realm, six minds in the form realm, four minds in the formless realm, and two stainless minds, making a total of twenty minds. As the text says: 'The twelve minds can also be divided into twenty, the three are born, and the acquired ones are divided into two. In the desire realm, there are four non-specified ones. In the form realm, there are none except for craftsmanship.' To clarify these a bit, what is obtained in the intermediate state or the state of birth without relying on effort is called innate, and what relies on later effort is called acquired. For the four unspecified minds, the mind that arises naturally from the cause of resultant without relying on the effort of beings is called the resultant birth mind, which has six aggregates of consciousness and whose object is also the six objects. The mind that focuses on mattresses and other things, as well as the form, smell, taste, and touch of one's own limbs, and actions such as walking, and thus performs them, is called the behavioral path mind. The mind that focuses on the object to be made, such as the four forms, and the sound of making it, and thus makes it, is called the craftsman's place mind. The unspecified mind that focuses on the object to be transformed, such as the four forms, and transforms it accordingly, is called the transformation mind. Then, which is more extensive, the twelve minds or the twenty minds? The twelve minds are more extensive, because they are not included in the four unspecified minds. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
