Because they also arise from the three. From the obscured and unspecified mind of the Form Realm, six minds arise: When the continuum and realm are the same, the three of one's own realm arise; at the time of rebirth, the non-virtuous mind of the Desire Realm and the obscured and unspecified two arise; when afflicted by the afflictions of meditative absorption, the virtuous mind of the Desire Realm arises. Therefore, it is taught: 'From the eight obscured ones, six arise.' The unobscured and unspecified mind of the Form Realm, when the continuum and realm are the same, arises only from the three of one's own realm, and does not arise from the remaining nine, so it is impossible for six or eight minds to arise. From the unobscured and unspecified mind of the Form Realm, only six minds arise: When the continuum and realm are the same, the three of one's own realm arise; at the time of rebirth, the non-virtuous mind of the Desire Realm and the obscured and unspecified two, and the obscured and unspecified three of the Formless Realm arise.' Thus it is taught: 'The unobscured arises from the three, and from that, six.' The unobscured and unspecified of the Formless Realm is also the same as the unobscured and unspecified of the Form Realm, because they arise from their own three minds, and from themselves, six minds arise. First, this is established, because when the continuum and realm are the same, they arise only from the three minds of their own realm. Second, this is also established, because when the continuum and realm are the same, the three minds of their own realm arise; at the time of rebirth, the two afflicted minds of the Desire Realm, and the three obscured minds of the Form Realm arise.' Thus it is taught: 'The Formless Realm is also the same.' From the virtuous mind of the Formless Realm, apart from the virtuous mind of the Desire Realm and the two unobscured and unspecified minds of the Desire and Form Realms, the remaining nine minds arise: When the continuum and realm are the same, the three minds of one's own realm arise; when entering into meditative absorption, the two uncontaminated minds arise; when rising from meditative absorption, one arising from the virtuous mind of the Form Realm arises; at the time of rebirth, the two afflicted minds of the Desire Realm, and the three obscured minds of the Form Realm arise. The virtuous mind of the Formless Realm arises from six minds: When the continuum and realm are the same, it arises from the three minds of one's own realm; when entering into meditative absorption, it arises from the arising from the virtuous mind of the Form Realm; when rising from meditative absorption, it arises from the two minds of the learner and non-learner. From the obscured and unspecified mind of the Formless Realm, seven minds arise: When the continuum and realm are the same, the three minds of one's own realm arise. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

arise. At the moment of connecting, there arise three: the mind obscured by form and the afflictive emotions of desire. When afflicted by the afflictive emotions of absorption, one arises because the virtue of form arises in conjunction. The mind of the formless realm, obscured and indeterminate, also arises from seven minds: when in continuity and sameness, it arises from the three of its own realm. At the moment of connecting, it also arises from four: the two virtues of desire and form, and the two unobscured and indeterminate of desire and form. It is taught that from virtue: 'Nine minds, six of them.' From obscuration: 'Seven minds, four of them.' The mind of the śaikṣa (learner) free from outflows arises from four minds: in continuity, it arises from the śaikṣa itself; and at the time of absorption, it arises following the virtue arising in conjunction of the three realms. Furthermore, abiding in the virtue arising in conjunction of the three realms, one relies on the path of śaikṣa and aśaikṣa (non-learner) to enter into absorption. From the mind of the śaikṣa free from outflows, five minds arise: in continuity, from itself; and when rising from absorption, the three virtues of the three realms; and at the time of absorption, the mind of the aśaikṣa also arises, because from the vajra-like samādhi of the śaikṣa, the knowledge of exhaustion of the aśaikṣa arises. It is said: 'The śaikṣa from four, from that five.' When rising from the path of truth of the śaikṣa, and when the virtue of the three realms arises, both the innate virtue and the virtue arising in conjunction of desire also arise. Only the virtue arising in conjunction of the two higher realms arises, because the innate virtue of desire is clear and suitable as a rising mind, while the innate virtue of the two higher realms is not clear and therefore not suitable as a rising mind. The mind of the aśaikṣa arises from five minds: in continuity, from itself; and at the time of absorption, from the three virtues arising in conjunction of the three realms; and also from after the vajra-like samādhi of the śaikṣa. From the mind of the aśaikṣa, four minds arise: when rising from absorption, the three virtues of the three realms arise; and in continuity, the aśaikṣa itself arises. It is said: 'The aśaikṣa from five. From that, four minds.' If, when one falls from being an arhat and descends to being a śaikṣa, does not the śaikṣa arise immediately after the aśaikṣa? This requires careful analysis with subtle wisdom: when falling from being an arhat, immediately after the path of truth of the aśaikṣa --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
