When arising from the equipoise of the Form Realm, only the undeclared mind of manifestation of the Desire Realm and the undeclared mind of manifestation of the Form Realm arise. When arising from manifestation, it is when arising from the two undeclared minds of manifestation of the Desire and Form Realms. After arising from that mind of manifestation, only the equipoise of the Form Realm arises. This is because after arising from manifestation, one enters into meditative concentration. At the time of linking, it is the time of linking from the death state to the intermediate state or the birth state. The dying mind has all three: virtuous, non-virtuous, and undeclared. The virtuous dying mind is necessarily innate. The undeclared dying mind has both obscured and unobscured aspects. The unobscured aspect has both resultant and behavioral aspects. The 'birth mind' refers to the mind that has just linked in the intermediate state and the birth state, which is necessarily afflicted. It has both obscured and undeclared aspects, as it is said, 'The existence of birth is afflicted.' While abiding in a virtuous dying mind, one can be born in any of the three realms: higher, lower, or one's own realm. However, while abiding in an afflicted dying mind, one cannot take birth in a higher realm, as it is said, 'From affliction, there is no higher realm.' Therefore, it is not permissible to assert that at the time of death, the transference of death due to karma and affliction is necessarily a continuous dependent arising, and that it is necessarily abiding in either virtue or non-virtue. This is because even an Arhat has death, and there is also an undeclared dying mind. There is no transference of death or birth due to karma and affliction while abiding in the two uncontaminated states, because the uncontaminated path is the antidote to existence. The phrase 'when afflicted by an afflicted absorption' means when arising from an afflicted absorption. After arising from that, only virtue arises; the other two do not manifest. After arising from an afflicted absorption of the Form Realm, either innate or acquired virtue of the Desire Realm manifests. After arising from an afflicted absorption of the Formless Realm, only acquired virtue of the Form Realm manifests. Having ascertained these meanings, one should carefully examine how the twelve minds arise in sequence. From a virtuous mind of the Desire Realm, the four minds of the Desire Realm, such as virtue, arise in sequence, as well as the virtuous mind of the Form Realm, the uncontaminated... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Secondly, there are two types of obscured and unspecified (有覆无记) from the form and formless realms, and nine occurrences: Usually, the virtuous dharmas of the desire realm, the non-virtuous dharmas of the desire realm that are the same as the earth, and the two unspecified ones arise. Because when entering samadhi, the virtuous dharmas of the form realm and the two types of uncontaminated dharmas also arise. Because the virtuous dharmas of the desire realm are led by effort and enter the contaminated samadhi of the form realm. And led by that, there is also entering into the uncontaminated learning and non-learning samadhi. When connecting the continuum, the two types of obscured and unspecified of the upper two realms (form and formless realms) arise. Because the dying mind of the desire realm is in a virtuous state, and as soon as it connects to the continuum of the upper two realms, that consciousness is unspecified. The way the virtuous dharmas of the desire realm are led by effort to enter samadhi, some say that they can only enter the near attainment of the first dhyana, some say that they can also enter the main attainment, some say that they can also enter the second dhyana, and some say that they cannot enter samadhi beyond the second dhyana, because the earth is separated. It is said that there are many such views. Then, just as the virtuous dharmas of the desire realm lead to entering the samadhi of the form realm, it should also be possible to enter the samadhi of the formless realm, so there would be ten minds, is that right? It is not the same, because the formless realm is four times farther than the desire realm. Just as the support of the form realm can manifest the emanation mind of the desire realm, the formless realm does not manifest any dharma of the desire realm, so the support is far. And the mind of the formless realm does not focus on the desire realm, so the object is far. It does not regard the desire realm as coarse, etc., so the aspect is far. And the consciousness of the formless realm does not counteract the afflictions of the desire realm, so the antidote is also far. As it says in the 'Self-Commentary': 'The formless realm is far from the desire realm by four distances, namely the distance of support, object, aspect, and antidote. Among them, the distance of support is that the similarity of samadhi cannot immediately become the support of the immediate cause. The distance of aspect is that it does not manifest in the coarse aspects of the desire realm, etc. Therefore, it also explains the distance of object, it only focuses on the coarse aspects of the four dhyanas. The distance of antidote is that it is impossible for those who have not separated from the desire realm to manifest it.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
