Thus it is. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the crux in this way: So, the co-existent condition (referring to the cause existing simultaneously) that is the basis of the six consciousnesses, that root of consciousness, is it past or present? If it is thought to be past, then are these six consciousnesses simultaneous? Or did they arise before that? If it is the former, then its counterpart is not an immediately preceding condition, so there is no answer to this. But if it is the latter, the sixth consciousness that has just ceased in its own time, or the consciousness of the sixth that arose before that, 1-916 its co-existent condition and its counterpart are homogeneous with the immediately preceding condition, because such a view is acknowledged. If one has to accept this view, then that sixth consciousness that ceased immediately before that, is it past or present? If it is thought that it has ceased at that time, but is generally present, then this contradicts the acknowledgement that present things do not take present counterparts as immediately preceding conditions. If analyzed in this way, how should one answer? I will keep the answer hidden for now. In short, if summarizing the key points, the first eye consciousness that has just ceased, is the co-existent condition of the second eye consciousness, and is its counterpart homogeneous with the immediately preceding condition? It is necessary to analyze whether the first eye consciousness is homogeneous with these two, because it is actually spoken of in this way. If it is the former, then does that which has just ceased exist at the time of the second eye consciousness, or at the time of the first? If it is the former, then this contradicts the acknowledgement that its counterpart is an immediately preceding condition. If it is the latter, then it has ceased at the time of the first. If both the first and second eye consciousnesses are present, 1-917 this contradicts the acknowledgement that present things do not make present counterparts immediately preceding conditions. If analyzed, one needs to think about the answer. So, what do you think? This problem, and the previous case of homogeneous cause, the past being the homogeneous cause of the present, and the present being the cause of the future homogeneous cause, but the present not being the homogeneous cause of the present, these are all understood once one is understood, so I will explain. If there are intelligent, truth-seeking, and impartial people, please listen carefully. Generally speaking, there is a reason for saying that the present is not the homogeneous cause of the present, and that the present does not take the present counterpart as an immediately preceding condition, because these are only prior and posterior relationships of cause and effect, the meaning is that simultaneous things do not make homogeneous causes, and similar things do not make immediately preceding conditions. It and its... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If the co-equal cause and the similar cause are immediate conditions, then the result must occur after the cause has ceased, and one must consider what occurred prior to its cessation, hence it is said in this way. If one understands the secret of reasoning, then it can now be effortlessly established that there exists a co-equal and similar immediate condition to the present. Therefore, if the dependent condition of the sixth consciousness (Tibetan: ཡིད་ཤེས, Meaning: Mind Consciousness) is the mental faculty (Tibetan: ཡིད་དབང, Meaning: Mind Faculty), then it must have ceased at its own time and something that occurred prior to its own time is necessary, because the self-commentary states that the similarity of that mental faculty is necessarily an immediate condition. Does this point imply that we must accept that the immediately past eye consciousness and the immediately past sixth consciousness are the dependent conditions of that consciousness? The fourfold analysis of the mind's similar immediate and the mind's immediate implies that one should consider a fourfold analysis of the mind's similar immediate condition and the mind's immediate condition, because in mindless absorption, the mind of entering absorption is the similar immediate condition of the mind arising from that, but it is not its immediate condition, because there is an interruption by mindless absorption between the two, and no other similar consciousness interrupts. 'Is' and 'is not' are easy to understand. It is the mind's immediate condition, but its similarity is not an immediate condition, can this be considered as a non-associated formation of the mind? Third, regarding the objective condition, there are definition, etymology, example, and fourfold analysis. The first is the definition: any dharma that can be cognized by the mind is the definition of the objective condition, because it is its definer. The second is the etymology: any mind is an object, therefore it is called an objective condition. The third is the example: all dharmas are objective conditions, because the five objects such as form are the objective conditions of each of the eye consciousnesses, etc., and all dharmas of the three times and the conditioned and unconditioned are the conditions of the consciousness. As the explanation says: 'All dharmas that are objects.' The self-commentary says: 'The eye consciousness and its corresponding concomitants are form, the ear consciousness is sound... the body consciousness is touch, the mind consciousness is all dharmas.' This is also the collection of consciousnesses. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
