It is not produced from the three causes of Vipāka-hetu (异熟因, *vipāka-hetu*, vipāka-hetu, ripening cause), Sarvatraga-hetu (ཀུན་འགྲོའི་རྒྱུ་, 遍行因, *sarvatraga-hetu*, sarvatraga-hetu, all-pervasive cause), and Sabhāga-hetu (སྐལ་མཉམ་གྱི་རྒྱུ་, 等流因, *sabhāga-hetu*, sabhāga-hetu, cause of similar kind), because they are not Vipāka-phala (异熟果, *vipāka-phala*, vipāka-phala, ripening result), are not afflicted, and do not have a Sabhāga-hetu (སྐལ་མཉམ་གྱི་རྒྱུ་, 等流因, *sabhāga-hetu*, sabhāga-hetu, cause of similar kind). In order, the Dharma has three remaining causes. Whatever is produced has its Kāraṇa-hetu (བྱེད་རྒྱུ་, 作用因, *kāraṇa-hetu*, karana-hetu, efficient cause) and the three causes. This is said to mean that the result is consciousness composed of mind and mental factors, and the four afflictions, etc., related to non-associated formations and form aggregates, are also produced from the other five causes in the same way as the corresponding cause. The afflictions of these two are produced from the remaining four causes except for their own Vipāka-hetu (异熟因, *vipāka-hetu*, vipāka-hetu, ripening cause). The Vipāka-ja (异熟生, *vipāka-ja*, vipaka-ja, ripening born) of these two are produced from the four causes except for their own Sarvatraga-hetu (ཀུན་འགྲོའི་རྒྱུ་, 遍行因, *sarvatraga-hetu*, sarvatraga-hetu, all-pervasive cause). The remaining ones are produced from the four causes except for these two. The remaining ones are produced from the three causes except for these two. The first Anāsrava (ཟག་མེད་, 无漏, *anāsrava*, anasrava, undefiled) of these two is produced from the two causes of Kāraṇa-hetu (བྱེད་རྒྱུ་, 作用因, *kāraṇa-hetu*, karana-hetu, efficient cause) and Sahabhū-hetu (ལྷན་ཅིག་འབྱུང་རྒྱུ་, 俱生因, *sahabhū-hetu*, sahabhu-hetu, co-existent cause) except for these two and the Sabhāga-hetu (སྐལ་མཉམ་གྱི་རྒྱུ་, 等流因, *sabhāga-hetu*, sabhāga-hetu, cause of similar kind). Because among the six causes, there is no result produced from only one cause. Therefore, mind and mental factors arise, and other than the corresponding cause, everything else is the same. Here, afflicted things are not produced from their own Vipāka-hetu (异熟因, *vipāka-hetu*, vipāka-hetu, ripening cause), but in general, they are not not produced from Vipāka-hetu (异熟因, *vipāka-hetu*, vipāka-hetu, ripening cause), because they arise depending on it as Adhipati-pratyaya (བདག་རྐྱེན་, 增上缘, *adhipati-pratyaya*, adhipati-pratyaya, dominant condition). For other things, similar reasoning should be applied, and detailed distinctions should be made. Third, explaining the conditions. (Third) Explaining the conditions. It is divided into two parts: a general explanation and a detailed explanation. First, 'If there are no causes and conditions, neither the born nor the producer are producers.' So, the classification of the six causes is like this, what is the classification of the conditions? For the condition that produces the result, the Blessed One spoke of four conditions. The Sutra says: 'There are four conditions, namely Hetu-pratyaya (རྒྱུའི་རྐྱེན་, 因缘, *hetu-pratyaya*, hetu-pratyaya, cause condition), Samanantara-pratyaya (དེ་མ་ཐག་པའི་རྐྱེན་, 等无间缘, *samanantara-pratyaya*, samanantara-pratyaya, immediately preceding condition), Ālambana-pratyaya (དམིགས་པའི་རྐྱེན་, 所缘缘, *ālambana-pratyaya*, alambana-pratyaya, object condition), and Adhipati-pratyaya (བདག་པོའི་རྐྱེན་, 增上缘, *adhipati-pratyaya*, adhipati-pratyaya, dominant condition).' There are four conditions. Second, the detailed explanation is divided into three parts: separately determining each condition, explaining how the four conditions act, and explaining what result arises from the four conditions. The first part has four conditions. First, the Kāraṇa-pratyaya (བྱེད་རྒྱུའི་རྐྱེན་, 作用因缘, *kāraṇa-pratyaya*, karana-pratyaya, efficient cause condition) is Dharma. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For that thing, the phenomenon that benefits that thing through any of the five subsequent causes such as simultaneous arising, is the subject of the proposition. You (referring to that phenomenon) are the definition of the causal condition (རྒྱུ་རྐྱེན།, rgyu rkyen) called 'cause and condition' distinguished by four conditions, because you are its defining characteristic. As it is explained, 'cause' refers to the five causes. Here, in the auto-commentary, it says: 'Except for the efficient cause, the five causes are the conditions of the efficient cause.' Based on this, all commentators explain in the definition of causal condition as 'the five causes excluding the efficient cause,' which is unexamined, because there is no cause or condition that is not an efficient cause. So, what is the meaning of saying that in the auto-commentary? I will explain that its meaning is that to be a causal condition of that phenomenon, it does not need to be something that is not its efficient cause, but to be considered a causal condition of that phenomenon, it is not enough to be merely its efficient cause, it also needs to be any of the five subsequent causes of that phenomenon, this is to exclude non-composite phenomena from being causal conditions of that phenomenon. Or, it needs to be something that is not an efficient cause distinguished by the six causes, because the distinction of merely being an efficient cause among the six causes has already been explained. May this well-explained teaching sink into your heart. Therefore, there are three possibilities regarding the causal condition of that phenomenon and its efficient cause, it is impossible to be a causal condition of that phenomenon but not an efficient cause, because it has already been said that 'other than itself, the efficient cause is the cause.' Second, regarding the immediately preceding condition (མཚུངས་པ་དེ་མ་ཐག་རྐྱེན།, tshungs pa de ma thag rkyen, Skt: समानन्तरप्रत्यय, samanantarapratyaya, similar immediate condition), the nature, example, etymology, and fourfold analysis will be explained. First is the nature: the consciousness that produces its own similar immediate result, is the subject of the proposition. You (referring to that consciousness) are the nature of the immediately preceding condition, because you are its defining characteristic. Second is the example: knowable things, are the subject of the proposition. There is a way to establish the immediately preceding condition, because all those born with mind and mental factors, except for the final consciousness of an Arhat (དགྲ་བཅོམ་པ།, dgra bcom pa, Skt: अर्हत्, arhat, worthy one), are its examples. As it is explained: 'The born of mind and mental factors, not the final, are the immediately preceding condition.' Therefore, as its example: The born of mind and mental factors, not the final, are the immediately preceding condition. The reason for separately mentioning 'mind and mental factors,' 'born,' and 'not the final' is because mind and mental factors are the immediately preceding condition, while form (བེམ་པོ།) and non-associated compositional factors (ལྡན་མིན་འདུ་བྱེད།) are not. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
