Therefore, the subsequent attainment of equipoise (Sanskrit: samāhita-pṛṣṭhalābhika, referring to the wisdom gained after emerging from meditation) is the result of personal effort (Sanskrit: puruṣakāra-phala, the result obtained through effort). Second, to determine separately. Among the five results such as the result of maturation, The first is: the matured (Sanskrit: vipāka, maturation, retribution) which has become the result of its own cause of maturation, the nature of the dharma (Sanskrit: dharma, things). You are the nature of the result of maturation, because you are able to establish it as such. Therefore, the result of maturation must be an unlabelled and unspecified (Sanskrit: avyākṛta, cannot be clearly classified as good or bad) dharma. Because the labelled (Sanskrit: vyākṛta, clearly classified) good and non-good, and the obscured and unspecified, cannot be maturation. Moreover, the result of maturation must be referred to as a sentient being (Sanskrit: sattva, sentient being), that is, shown as a sentient being, or a collection of mind streams (Sanskrit: citta-saṃtāna, mind stream). Because if it is not a collection of mind streams, then the fault of encountering the result without having created the karma and the karma created in vain will arise. Moreover, the result of maturation must be experienced by oneself alone, and cannot be experienced jointly with others. Moreover, the cause of one's own maturation, the labelled good and non-good karma, is its subsequent result. And, there must be other dharmas intervening in between, because it does not occur simultaneously with that karma, nor immediately after that karma. However, it is not necessary to have a lifetime as an interval between the two, because the result of maturation has karma to be experienced in the present life (Sanskrit: dṛṣṭadharmavedanīya-karma, karma to be repaid in this life). Even so, the result of maturation of the formation (Sanskrit: saṃskāra, formation) link of the twelve links of dependent origination (Sanskrit: dvādaśāṅga-pratītyasamutpāda) must be admitted to have no experience in the present life, because there must be a lifetime as an interval between the two. The explanation for this is: 'Maturation is an unspecified dharma, sentient beings say it is subsequent.' Therefore, there are three cases for the result of maturation of that dharma and the result of personal effort: the happy realm (Sanskrit: sugati, good destination) transformed by the result of maturation of virtuous karma is the category of both; the virtuous dharma transformed by the result of personal effort of virtuous karma is the result of personal effort, but not the category of the result of maturation; the category that is neither is the uncreated (Sanskrit: asaṃskṛta, unconditioned). There is no category that is the result of maturation of that dharma, but not the result of personal effort of that dharma, because if it is the result of maturation, it must be the result of personal effort. There are also three cases for the result of maturation of that dharma and the result of personal action of that dharma, because there is no category that is both. Second, the result of outflow (Sanskrit: niṣyanda-phala): in the aspect of existing in a category similar to its own cause, that cause... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The phenomenon is that the fruit you posit has the nature of a fruit of the same kind as your cause, because you can posit it. Homogeneous fruit, you have two classifications, namely, the fruit of the co-equal cause and the fruit of the pervasive cause. The first is further divided into two types, namely, the unpolluted co-equal fruit and the polluted co-equal fruit. These homogeneous cause and effect have three similarities: unpolluted co-equal fruit only needs to have the same entity; polluted co-equal fruit needs to have similar appearance; pervasive cause and effect need to be similar in affliction and the same ground. The middle one of these three needs to have three characteristics: among the five types of abandonment, it must be the same type of abandonment; that is not enough, it must be the same ground in the nine grounds; even that is not enough, the cause must be born before the fruit. The third also needs to have three characteristics: it must be afflicted; it does not need to be the same type of abandonment, but it must be the same ground; the cause must be born before the fruit. As it is said: 'Homogeneous is similar to the cause.' The self-commentary says: 'Any dharma that is similar to the cause is a homogeneous fruit, such as the co-equal cause and the pervasive cause. If the fruit of the pervasive cause is also similar, why not only acknowledge the co-equal cause? Because they are similar in ground and affliction, but not in appearance. Anyone who is also similar in appearance should be acknowledged as a co-equal cause.' Therefore, the co-equal cause and the pervasive cause have four possibilities: the virtuous dharmas that have become co-equal causes are co-equal causes, but not pervasive causes; the pervasive afflictions that are abandoned by the truth of suffering are pervasive causes of the other four types of abandonment, but not their co-equal causes; the pervasive afflictions of the truth of suffering included in the desire realm are both the co-equal cause and the pervasive cause of the subsequent truths of suffering included in the desire realm; the future dharmas are neither co-equal causes nor pervasive causes.' The self-commentary says: 'Therefore, whatever is a co-equal cause is also a pervasive cause.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
