One becomes arrogant and the mind deteriorates. Because one has abandoned the well-spoken words, one becomes filled with anger towards the Dharma that leads to destruction. Thus it is said. Furthermore, in the *Radiant One* it says: "The three trainings are excellently taught, and are truly endowed with the three seals. Good in the beginning, middle, and end, the wise realize it is the Buddha's speech." Thus it is said. So, the three trainings to be practiced are: As it says in the Sutra: "Do no evil, cultivate perfect virtue, subdue your own mind; this is the teaching of the Buddhas." These three lines of verse show the training of discipline, the training of concentration, and the training of wisdom in that order. Also, it is endowed with the three seals, which are: all conditioned things are impermanent, nirvana is peace, and all phenomena are without self. Furthermore, as it says in the Sutra: "The sacred Dharma is good in the beginning, good in the middle, good in the end, good in meaning, good in words, unmixed, complete, pure, and cleansed." That is to say, the Dharma of the expressive word is good in the beginning because it is the cause of generating faith from hearing; good in the middle because it is the cause of generating joy from thinking; good in the end because it is the cause of generating wisdom that realizes things as they are from meditating; good in meaning because it teaches the two truths of the conventional and the ultimate; good in words because the words and letters are easy to grasp as they are spoken in the world; these are the five. The Dharma of the expressed realization is unmixed because it is not common with outsiders; complete because it is the complete antidote to abandoning all the afflictions of the three realms; pure because it is without the impurity of inherent nature; cleansed because it is free from adventitious impurities; it is endowed with four qualities. As it says in the *Ornament*: "This Dharma is good because it is the cause of faith, joy, and wisdom. It has two meanings, is easy to grasp, and teaches the conduct of purity with four qualities. It is endowed with what is uncommon with others, completely abandons the afflictions of the three realms and accomplishes completeness, is inherently pure and cleansed of impurities; therefore, it is considered to be the conduct of purity endowed with four qualities." Thus it is said. In short, the Dharma to be taught is what was spoken by the Buddha.

Oṃ. It is collected by the collector, explained by the wise and accomplished ones, spoken by the paṇḍitas, and translated by the translators. It must possess the oral instructions of the lineage of gurus and the continuity of the scriptures, and be renowned and established among the wise. If it deviates from these, even if one engages in explanation and practice, it will not become Dharma. Therefore, solely based on the teachings of the Buddha, in order to explain its intention, the characteristics of the author or explainer of a treatise endowed with the qualities of Dga' Chos Skyob should also be as stated: "Pure, learned, wishing to benefit others." As it is said, one should possess the three characteristics of purity of discipline leading to pure scriptures, purity of wisdom leading to learned body, speech, and mind, and purity of altruistic intention leading to the desire to benefit others. If one does not possess discipline, there is no basis for qualities, and therefore one cannot accomplish the benefit of oneself and others. Bad reputation increases, and the teachings become defiled, so the basis for qualities is pure discipline. As stated in the Three Hundred Verses: "One who is pure in discipline and knows the rituals of discipline, is compassionate to the sick, has a pure retinue, strives to benefit in Dharma and material things, and admonishes at the right time, these are praised as gurus." Thus it is said. To be learned in scriptures and reasoning through pure wisdom has three aspects. To be learned in what is to be explained means that, in general, one is learned in the five sciences of knowledge and all the scriptures. In particular, one must be learned in the words and meaning of the Dharma that is to be explained, because only then can one dispel the doubts of the students. To be learned in the manner of explanation means that one's speech is connected in a way that it is relevant no matter where one starts, appropriate no matter how much one explains, and reasonable no matter how one explains, and that the words used are accurate and possess a tone that can please others. To be learned in the method of explanation means that one should explain in accordance with the faculties, thoughts, and predispositions of the trainees, and not explain in a way that is incompatible with these. As stated in the Ten Wheels of Earth Essence: "Children are weak in faculties and lazy, and do not strive in the two vehicles, they will not become vessels for the great vehicle. They are not vessels for the vast great vehicle." And it is said: "Similarly, those of the Hearer Vehicle who are not vessels, if they hear the explanation of the Great Vehicle, will become confused, and will fall into bad destinies due to nihilistic views. Therefore, one should examine the faculties and then teach the Dharma." It is also said in the Bodhicaryāvatāra: "Having become a vessel for the vast Dharma, do not connect with inferior Dharma."
