After settling down, he went to the retreat room and gave the oral transmission of the Gyübum (Collection of Tantras) to his uncle and others. From then until his death, he stayed in long retreat for about twenty years. In the winter of that year and the spring and summer of the following year, he requested explanations of the Root Text of Medicine and the Secret Instructions Tantra from the learned master Karma Tshepel, who was skilled in healing. He also regularly carried the Root Tantra and the Yuthok Lama Drup (Yuthok Guru Sadhana). In the early winter, he memorized the ritual of Gonpo (Mahakala). He also went to the Dütor (Repelling Ritual) gathering. In the first month of the Wood Sheep year (no specific year given), he performed the recitation of White Manjushri. Although the dream omens were not very clear, from then on, his writing improved. In the second month, he received the transmission of the Secret Mantra Gyübum (Collection of Tantras) from his uncle, as well as the Peaceful and Wrathful Rosaries of the Ninth Je, and the empowerment of Yuthok Nyingtik (Yuthok's Heart Drop). Regarding this, according to custom, he asked Kyabgön Dünphran which deity he preferred. The reply was that it would be best to take the White Tara, the goddess of increase, as his yidam and practice recitation and sadhana. When practicing the White Tara according to the Jowo tradition, he dreamed that it was dawn, the year was good, countless tsatsas filled five or six temples, and he flew over them, hearing the sound of longevity. He forgot that longevity. When he repeated it again, he dreamed that there were three stupas as big as mountains. The first one turned into a mountain, and a very thin white water flowed down, and he and some friends washed their heads and bodies and drank it. Looking back, he dreamed that half of the third stupa turned into lapis lazuli or blue, and the end was like the sky, unbearable to the eyes. Another time, in a small confession room, Kyabgön Dorje Chang seemed to be living there. In the courtyard, on a low seat, a glorious woman, who must have been the master's own consort, was sitting kindly. He very respectfully touched her feet with his head and dreamed that he said many things, such as praying to Mother Yeshe Tsogyal. Another time, he was staying in his own place as usual, as if it were daytime. People from his uncle's house said that they were ordered to give you something. A person handed him a reliquary box, and when he opened it, there were three skulls wrapped in red silk, filled with relics, like the main sacred objects, one of which was from India.

It is said that it was the skull of the great accomplished Abhayakara. There was another one that was also said to be of a great accomplished one, but I don't clearly remember the internal and external details. Another one was said to be the skull of Sogpon Rigrel. When I looked inside, I saw a self-arisen image of Jetsunma (Vajrayogini), with her right hand in the gesture of supreme generosity, although the palm was slightly unclear. I dreamed that I thought it was mine and made a mark. During the summer and autumn seasons, I lacked offerings, but at the urging of Kyabgon Rinpoche and with the great loving care of Won Gen Choktrul Rinpoche, for the newly arrived Won Trul Rinpoche and myself, he bestowed empowerments such as Vajravarahi and Chakrasamvara with five deities, Gyalgyam with nine deities, Sarvavid, Akshobhya, Amitayus with nine deities, and the Lama practice of Pagshi (Sanskrit, Pagshi, literal meaning: Bird). He gave the transmissions of the Karma Kagyu tradition's large and small mandalas, Chospyod (collection of liturgical texts), Gonpo (Mahakala), and whatever printed editions were available. He also bestowed the empowerment and instructions of Zurchö (Severance practice). Privately, I received the recitation instructions for these. He bestowed the detailed instructions and transmissions of the three levels of Mahamudra: extensive, intermediate, and concise, and the Six Dharmas of Naropa. In the ninth month, on the Festival of the Descent from Heaven, I performed a fasting retreat according to the Palmo tradition. On the night of the main practice, in the large and magnificent assembly hall, I dreamed that I and many others saw Shakyamuni Buddha, with golden light shining, hair very dark blue, and the lower part of his body almost invisible behind the assembly hall, about two stories high, and we prostrated with faith. Later one night, I went to the left side of a vast great hall, and as I circumambulated to the right from the steps of a very large gold-bronze stupa, I saw a small image of the Lord of Secrets (Vajrapani) adorning the vase-shaped part of the stupa as a crown. As I circumambulated to the left of that, the stupa seemed to be made of earth, and there was a hole in the vase-shaped part. I put my hand in and pulled out many yellow papers and scrolls, such as Yeshe Sangwa (Wisdom Secret). Then I went to a hillside, where there were many black tents of various sizes. I said, "This is a dream, it's a demon." I remembered from the bottom of my heart that I was Yonge Terdrom, so I danced and frolicked on them, as if I had become a real Drolo. I raised the phurba (ritual dagger) and danced, and all those black tents sank into the ground. Then I went to a steep place, and a harmful being was brandishing a knife and sword, so at first I felt a little scared.
