If someone does not have genuine respect for Your Holiness, yet flatters and sweet-talks in front of the current general assembly of lamas and officials, it is unavoidable. Praises and criticisms that take each person's likes and dislikes as their core, especially the sarcasm of fearing those of high status and delighting in those of low status, and the envy, are worse than the barking of an old dog. Just hearing these, he would interrupt the conversation, not allowing it to enter his ears, and furthermore, he would never listen to such people's words, being extremely displeased in his heart. No one can refute any of Your Holiness's actions in a way that is in accordance with the Dharma. Even if slanders and accusations are heard because their own inverted thoughts and actions do not conform to you, he would think, 'For sentient beings with various intentions, even the actions of the Buddha cannot satisfy everyone, so what need is there to mention someone like me?' Therefore, he does not care even as much as a sesame seed husk for the sting of hope and worry. Whatever Your Holiness's thoughts and actions may be, he maintains them uprightly and does not make the slightest change or adjustment. In front of scholars and great people, he does not flatter or fawn, and there is not even a hint of timidity, even his manner of speaking is completely frank and praising. Towards ordinary people, children, and those of low status, he does not act arrogantly or contemptuously, but treats them casually with a relaxed tone and smiles, making them feel at ease, and he does not act artificially or hypocritically. Due to the awakening of past karma, and the power of having samadhi within, he possesses a special demeanor that can overwhelm all high and low, so everyone bows with a ashamed face. For any of Your Holiness's actions, great or small, in important moments, he would only consult with one or two lamas whom he trusts from the bottom of his heart, or Your Holiness himself would pray to the lama and deities for guidance. Apart from that, as long as it does not violate the Dharma, and he thinks in a way that is in accordance with worldly customs, he acts by maintaining his own position, and does not adopt the opinions of the masses. He also taught, 'We are born alone at the beginning, and we die alone at the end, and no one can consult or advise on these two most important things.' Therefore, what is the point of not being able to make decisions about the affairs of this life yourself? He never gives autonomy to others.

Venerable ones, even if others ask for my advice, I do not possess clairvoyance. Because all of us are beings with the ability to speak and understand, we naturally desire that our wishes be fulfilled and that unpleasant things do not occur. We are always contemplating what is best. However, just as hope can sometimes obscure the outcome, I wonder if that might happen here. Like a beggar's daydream, I cannot predict anything. Generally speaking, in gatherings of people or during Dharma teachings, I only offer general advice on what to adopt and what to abandon. I never issue commands to individuals, saying, "You should do this, you should not do that." As the teachings say, Dromtönpa said, "Admonishing those who do not listen is incomplete." Similarly, nowadays, even if there are a hundred students, it is rare to find one who listens to their lama. Even if there are a hundred sons, it is rare to find one who listens to their father. Therefore, what is the use of giving instructions to such people, except to make both oneself and the other person angry? That is why I never make hasty judgments. If someone truly trusts me, I will consult the protectors and other sources, and after carefully considering the situation, I will offer some advice. I would never engage in the deceitful behavior of those charlatans who mislead their followers. Nowadays, some people, despite being foolish, presume themselves to be clever and lead others astray. Despite being ignorant, they pretend to have clairvoyance and make false prophecies. Despite lacking the ability, they try to mediate disputes. Despite not listening to advice themselves, they instruct others and act as teachers. Despite being unhappy, they engage in insincere flattery and perform meaningless rituals, doing everything they can. When I think of those hypocritical people who are like monkeys and cats, what else can I think of besides the biographies of the lamas? It is said that when you, venerable one, were young, you were very healthy. However, later on, due to conflicts and poisoning, as well as the general decline in merit of the Tibetan region, your health gradually deteriorated, and various illnesses became more severe. Even in such circumstances, you did not pretend to cultivate patience, as some people do nowadays. Instead, you said, "Due to my past negative karma, medicine is of no use, and rituals are the same. Whether I am sick or die, may it be joyful. If I could live happily every moment, that would be best, but since past karma cannot be changed, there is no choice but to accept the results of my actions." You always endured silently, doing nothing to change things. There are also some people who are clever in other ways, monastics
