The second case is for the location. When the agent performs an action, the second case changes into three forms, and in the texts, it is referred to as "the object with the agent." For example, Devadatta cuts grass, the Brahmin looks at the sun. Like this, Devadatta and the Brahmin are the agents. Cutting grass and the sun are the action or the location of the action, so the case of the object must be attached to them. In the Indian commentaries, it is said, "That which the agent's action wants to completely cover is called the object with the agent." Therefore, there are near and far locations of the action. Here, it refers to the location where the action immediately and uninterruptedly acts. There are seven types of objects, and the unstated object takes the second case. Therefore, "kaṭaṃ karoti devadatta," where kaṭa is cutting grass; "ādityaṃ paśyati vipra," where āditya is the sun, so the second case "amra" is attached. Furthermore, for roots with the meaning of movement, similarly, for roots of understanding, food, sound, and no object, when adding a causative verb with the agent "i tra" or "inra kārita," the agent becomes the second case. For example, "make the boy read the Veda," which is "pāṭhayati māvakaṃ bedaṃ." Here, "ṭha" is the root of reading, and "in" and the present tense "ti," and "anra vikara" are added. Therefore, reading is the meaning of sound, and the Sanskrit word for boy related to this, "māvaka," although the agent of reading, is also the object to be attached to reading, so the second case "amra" is attached. Veda is the unstated real object, so it gets the second case. This object to be attached has the same basis as the agent, so it is called the agent's object. Furthermore, it is said that the second case is attached to the characteristics of the action. For example, "dūraṃ panthāḥ," the road is far; "antikaṃ panthāḥ," the road is near. Like this, the road is the action, and near and far are the agents of that action, so the second case "amra" is attached to them. "The third case is for the agent." Therefore, for the person who performs any action or has the agent, the third case is attached. For example, "done by the black man's son." Like this, the black man's son is the agent, so "ṭā" is attached to Caitra, which is "caitre kṛtaṃ."

English

Here, regarding the agent, it should be understood that it applies to the unexpressed agent among the five kinds of agents that have been explained. Also, regarding "བྱེད་པ་ལའོ། " (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning: བྱེད་པ་ལའོ། , , , for the action), as a means of accomplishment or assistance. For example, like cutting a tree with an ax, although there is another agent of cutting, that is its accomplishment, or because it depends on cutting, the third case is used. For example: སརྦཱུ་ལ་ཊཱ། དེ་ནཱ། པ་རཱུ་ནཱཙྪི་ནཏྟི་བྲྀཀྵཾ། (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning: སརྦཱུ་ལ་ཊཱ། དེ་ནཱ། པ་རཱུ་ནཱཙྪི་ནཏྟི་བྲྀཀྵཾ། , , ,). As stated in the Pāṇini's sutras: "The independent one is the agent, and the excellent assistance is བྱེད་པའོ། " (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning: བྱེད་པའོ། , , , action). If both the unexpressed agent and བྱེད་པ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning: བྱེད་པ་, , , action) are in the same phrase, then the third case is used for both. For example: རཱ་མེ་་བཱ་ེ་ན་ཧ་ཏོ་྅་བཱ་ལཱི། (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning: རཱ་མེ་་བཱ་ེ་ན་ཧ་ཏོ་྅་བཱ་ལཱི། , , ,). The garlanded one was killed by the delightful arrow. Also, as mentioned before, if both are in the same phrase, then the first case is also used for the agent. For example: ཨགྣི་ནཱ་པ་ཙ་ཏི་བི་པྲཿ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning: ཨགྣི་ནཱ་པ་ཙ་ཏི་བི་པྲཿ, , ,) The Brahmin cooks with fire, like that, the Brahmin is the agent, not བྱེད་པ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning: བྱེད་པ་, , , action), the Sanskrit word for Brahmin, བི་པྲ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning: བི་པྲ་, , ,), uses the first case, and ཨགྣི་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning: ཨགྣི་, , , fire) uses the third case. Because the suffix ติ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning: ติ, , ,) of the word བ་ཙ་ཏི་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning: བ་ཙ་ཏི་, , ,) itself expresses the agent, the expressed agent naturally obtains the first case. Also, like "The father and son came together," in phrases that include or are together, the third case is used for the non-principal one. For example: པི་ཏཱ་པུ་ཏྲེ་་སཱ་ཧཱ་ག་ཏཿ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning: པི་ཏཱ་པུ་ཏྲེ་་སཱ་ཧཱ་ག་ཏཿ, , ,), father and son, because the father is the principal, it is not used in the third case, but the Sanskrit word for son, བུ་ཏྲ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning: བུ་ཏྲ་, , ,), uses the third case. For the elder and younger, son and daughter, the elder and son are the principal, so the third case must be used. In the basis of the sutras and tantras, the third case is not used for the name of the principal Buddha, but the third case is used for the retinue Bodhisattvas and Śrāvakas, and it is often stated in conjunction with the meaning of "together." Also, like "Seeing the monastery with a water pot," like that, when a characteristic and a slight appearance are used to represent, thereby enabling the distinction of the object of the name, the third case is used. For example, the Sanskrit word for water pot, ཀ་མཎྜ་ལུ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning: ཀ་མཎྜ་ལུ་, , ,), is transformed by adding ཊཱ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning: ཊཱ་, , ,) and དེ་ནཱ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning: དེ་ནཱ་, , ,) etc. ཀ་མཎྜ་ལུ་ནཱཙྪཏྟྲ་མ་དྲཀྵི་ཏ། (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning: ཀ་མཎྜ་ལུ་ནཱཙྪཏྟྲ་མ་དྲཀྵི་ཏ། , , ,). Also, as stated in Pāṇini's sutras etc., the appearance of a limb represents the appearance of the one with the limb, like using the eyes to represent a blind person, using the feet
