There is no difference in benefit between making offerings and serving the departed and serving their relics. In the Dharani of the Flower Heap, it says: If someone serves the Tathagata, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha Buddha, for one year, one hundred years, or even one thousand years, with all the means of comfort; after the Tathagata has passed into complete nirvana, offering some flowers to the relics, or scattering a handful of water, or applying a dot of perfume, or sweeping flower petals, or offering perfume, or offering incense, or offering lamps, offering and then taking a few steps with a joyful heart, saying, "I prostrate to the Buddha Bhagavan," these people, lion-like in their loving-kindness, will not fall into evil destinies even for hundreds of kalpas, thousands of kalpas, or even hundreds of thousands of kalpas. And so on. In the Dharma texts of Ngam-po and the places where the holders of these texts reside, there are also gods, nagas, yakshas, and other Dharma-protecting guardians, powerful protectors who constantly and tirelessly guard and protect from fear and harm, because they have made vows before the Buddha. Therefore, having complete respect for the Dharma-holders and the Dharma, even temporarily dispelling obstacles, is incomparable to hundreds of thousands of protections, reversals, prayers, and offerings. The benefits of serving the Sangha are extensively taught in the Sutras. Among them, practitioners are far superior to mere readers. In the Sutra of the Meeting of Father and Son, it says: Whoever listens to the definitive teachings on the Bodhisattva's Samadhi for ten kalpas and then explains it to others, is less meritorious than someone who meditates for just a snap of the fingers. This practitioner accumulates immeasurable merit more than the former. Also, in the Excellent Collection of Samadhi, it says: Even if one does not attain the four fruits of a Shramana by meditating on Samadhi, one is still a million times superior to those who have only heard much. Furthermore, in the degenerate age of the final five hundred years, meditating on Samadhi is also said to be the Dharma for quickly liberating from samsara. Therefore, serving and offering to those who practice meditation is superior to prostrating and venerating hundreds and thousands of Sangha members, stupas, or Buddha images.

Homage. Those gods and humans, Will become a place of great reverence. Whoever with faith, to the stupa of the Sugata, Or to images, makes circumambulation, In future lives will be revered by great enemies, Will become a vessel of goodness, and possess qualities. Thus and so on, it is said that offering, reverence, and service each produce vast benefits. In the Sutra of Holding the Roots of Virtue, it is said: Offering to the stupa of the Tathagata, repairing and cleaning it, will result in obtaining four kinds of purity: appearance, ease, truly receiving, and the supreme aspiration to see the Tathagata. In the Jewel Heap Sutra, it is said: If a stupa is damaged, it should be repaired by taking from the possessions of the Sangha. For stupas, no matter how great the offerings, what need to mention if a monk uses even a sesame seed for himself? Even a tiny portion should not be dedicated to the Sangha. If a monk acts as an attendant and hides the possessions of the Sangha, he will be born in a short-lived hell called "Purbu Mangpo" and experience great suffering. In the Noble Sutra of Offering Lamps, it is said: To the stupa of the Tathagata, with a faithful mind, offering a small lamp, or just illuminating one step of a staircase, or briefly like a flash of lightning, the fruit of that merit is inconceivable, only the Buddha can know it, Sravakas and Pratyekabuddhas cannot know it. The one who offers lamps, at the time of death, will obtain three or four special lights. Will be born in the Thirty-Three Heavens, becoming a son of the gods endowed with five kinds of purity. Will never fall, obtaining pure eyes and many other excellent qualities. Seeing the Buddha, obtaining the light of the Dharma. Obtaining four aspirations, four purities, two sets of eight supreme dharmas, four kinds of perfect knowledge, and so on, being free from all fear and sorrow. And also, compared to offering to a Pratyekabuddha for a kalpa, offering a grass lamp to the Buddha has a greater result, and so on. These are also said in the sutra: Who makes offerings when he abides? Who makes offerings after nirvana? The mind
