Then, doing so is serving the Dharma. How does one serve the Sangha? It is by offering the Sangha robes, food, bedding, medicine for sickness, and utensils, etc. Even a small amount of cold water, like a handful, is offered to the Sangha. This is how one serves the Sangha. In this way, the Bodhisattva's offerings and the almsgiving of service are perfected. Thus it is said. Specifically, in the 《Lotus Sutra》 it says: To the relics of the Tathagata, even a small offering, or the sound of striking a bell once, or offering just one flower, or drawing an image of the Tathagata on a wall, even if offering with a distracted mind, those people will gradually see countless Buddhas. To the stupas, whether one joins their palms, joins them completely or joins one palm, or just bows their head for a moment, or likewise bends their body once, to those places where relics reside, even if prostrating with a distracted mind, one can realize Buddhahood. Even if saying just one word, repeating it several times, all those people can attain this supreme Bodhi. Thus it is said. In the 《Ratnamegha Sutra》 it says: Son of good family, if one possesses ten qualities, Bodhisattvas will be born without being stained by the impurity of the womb. What are the ten? They are: making images of the Tathagata, repairing dilapidated stupas, applying incense to the stupas of the Tathagata, offering bathing scented water to the images of the Tathagata, providing dusters and brooms to the stupas of the Tathagata, serving parents, serving Khenpos and Acharyas, and serving those who practice Brahmacharya. Moreover, it should be done with a mind free from contamination, not with a mind mixed with contamination. One should also dedicate the root of virtue in this way: By this root of virtue, may all sentient beings be born without being stained by the impurity of the womb. Moreover, one should make the aspiration from the depths of one's heart. Son of good family, if one possesses these ten qualities, Bodhisattvas will be born without being stained by the impurity of the womb. Thus it is said. In the 《Karuṇapuṇḍarīka Sūtra》 it says: After the Buddha's Nirvana, the relics

Even offering something as small as a mustard seed, generating the initial good intention upon seeing a stupa, even throwing a single flower into the sky for the sake of the Tathagata, generating a single thought of kindness towards the Buddha, even if reborn as an animal, remembering the Buddha, even a sentient being without the fortune to be liberated from suffering, throwing a single flower into the sky for the sake of the Buddha, the result of all these will not be exhausted until the ultimate attainment of Bodhi, and will eventually lead to complete liberation from suffering. Even if this three-thousandfold great thousand world system were filled with Arhats and Pratyekabuddhas, like sesame seeds or dense kusha grass, offering them with all comfortable things for more than a kalpa, and building stupas made of the seven precious substances for those who have been liberated from suffering, the merit of offering with all kinds of offerings would not equal even one hundred thousandth part of the merit of simply folding one's palms once for the Tathagata. In the Sutra Vibhanga, it is said that offering prostrations, folded palms, sweeping, umbrellas, bells, banners, flowers, garlands, lamps, perfumes and incense, musical instruments, etc., to a sacred object each has ten great benefits. Offering clothes brings twelve benefits. By circumambulating a Buddha's stupa for even a moment with a mind of faith, one abandons the eight unfavorable conditions, possesses mindfulness and intelligence, has a long life, good complexion, noble birth, many attendants, is rich and wealthy, possesses strength and diligence, and is born as Brahma, Indra, a Chakravartin, or other Dharma kings. One quickly perfects the Dharma of the path to enlightenment and attains clairvoyance. One attains the state of a Shravaka, Pratyekabuddha, or Buddha. Prostrations, offerings, and praises are also the same. The meaning of this is very detailed and extensive, as explained in the verses on circumambulating stupas. In the verses of the "Clear Victory Sutra," it is also said: "Whoever offers to the stupa of the Sugata, whatever special and available offerings they have, those who offer appropriately will be stainless and attain the unsurpassed Bodhi free from sorrow. If people's virtues are equal, then there is no difference in merit." Therefore, one should regard the Buddha as the actual Buddha.
