Regarding the construction of Buddha images, which is one of the eight worldly dharmas, it is said in the *Kondchok Tala'i Do* (Precious Accumulation Dharani Sutra): 'Making Buddha images and stupas, seeing them, and offering them with lamps and so on, it is said that this becomes the cause for accomplishing limitless distinctions of light.' In the *Bumo Namdak Depa Zhupai Do* (Sutra of the Daughter Pure Faith's Inquiry): 'One of the eight dharmas that arise falsely before the Buddha is said to be making an image of the Tathagata and placing it on a lotus seat.' In the *Phakpa Dondam Nampar Ngepai Do* (Arya Sutra Ascertaining the Ultimate Meaning): 'This body of the Tathagata, beautiful in every way like a son without desire, is manifestly accomplished because in the past, one made images of the Tathagata, repaired dilapidated stupas, and relieved others from fears.' There are very many such statements. In the *Gyü Dompa Jungwa* (Tantra Collection) and especially in the *Manjushri Root Tantra*, the method of making painted images and their immeasurable benefits are taught. In the *Condensed Collection*, it says: 'The mantra practitioner should first, make statues and so on. If a painted image is accomplished, one will quickly obtain great siddhis.' And in the *Manjushri Root Tantra*: 'The sins committed in countless eons, however terrible they may be, are purified immediately by seeing a drawing on the ground.' And so on. In the *Shikshasamuccaya* (Compendium of Trainings): 'Giving the five desirable qualities to all sentient beings in the world of endurance, it is far more excellent to honor one pure lay follower. More than all of that, it is one novice monk. More than all of that, it is one fully ordained monk. More than all of that, it is one vajra holder. More than honoring all of that, it is far more excellent to build an image with complete marks and signs, filled with color.' And so on, there are limitless occurrences in the sutras, tantras, and shastras. The main reason for the arising of such qualities is that, from the profound secrets of the definitive meaning, the body and the image of the body, the speech and the image of sound, however they may appear, do not stray from the original basis and are therefore said to be non-different. In the great sutra that gathers the intention of all Buddhas, it says: 'Lord of Lanka, for example, a vajra.'
