Extreme foolishness is a fault. What is always trustworthy is the word of the Buddha. Some people, because they feel their own mind is good, hope to be praised by others, fear being criticized, fear being disrespected, and fear disagreeing with others. No matter how such practitioners act, it is like the white moon still having a shadow. Therefore, they should abandon selfish worries from the root. For the Sutra, Tantra, and school they believe in, they should engage without any doubt. If their view and conduct are in accordance with the Dharma, they should blend their mindstream with the Dharma. Without knowing how to attain accomplishment, they place their hopes on titles like "accomplished one" and "realized one," discarding listening and contemplation like dog excrement. Or, desiring to excel through the fame of being a scholar, they waste their lives reading worn-out books, with practice remaining only a wish. Both of these situations are not in accordance with the proper way. Therefore, emphasize meditation, and do not let listening and contemplation become one-sided, thereby broadening your view of the Dharma. If you find respect for the teacher, then cherishing the teachings will arise. The reason for this is that you must at least hear some of the Buddha's Jataka tales. If you generate heartfelt faith in the qualities of the Buddha, you will desire to attain inconceivable qualities, desire to accumulate limitless merit, and for the sake of all beings pervading space, you will wander in samsara for countless eons without weariness. Thus, the genuine Mahayana mind of bodhicitta will arise in your mindstream. In short, if a genuine sense of impermanence arises and you are certain that there is a future life, then even without relying on the temporary appearances of food and clothing in this life, you will be able to genuinely practice the Dharma from the depths of your heart. Therefore, there is no need for many words. Always remember that death may come at any time, and that the results of karma will definitely ripen on yourself in the next life. To integrate the Dharma into your mindstream, you must be able to tame your own mind. However, calling Dharma practice "retreat" and so on, binding yourself with many unnecessary activities that must be done, let alone the qualities of realizing the path, you do not even want to generate a single bit of verbal ability or genuine mental peace. Instead, you become an excellent yogi of the eight worldly concerns, losing the pure vision for the Dharma and all people, becoming self-righteous and narrow-minded. Therefore, at all times, be vigilant about your own mind and do not lose sight of the essentials.

If one can abandon even the slightest worry and not contend with anyone in the world, striving to eliminate afflictions and self-grasping as much as possible, even without the strict regulations of the four sessions of yoga, it is acceptable. However, if the sessions and intervals between sessions are filled to the brim, but one does not subdue one's own mind with Dharma, then this mind, which is too familiar with the imprints of beginningless bad habits, will, like a runaway child, only be lost to the deceptions of this life. Therefore, practice does not depend on the number of goals or the breadth of explanation, but rather on having a transformative change within each session. Although the explanations of each school differ, they all converge on the correct path. However, the experience of imitation and empty understanding is like dew on the grass, appearing true for a while, but not lasting and quickly vanishing. Therefore, the practice of the Dagpo Kagyu lineage is to blend Dharma and mind, taking the devotion to the guru's Dharmakaya as the path. There is nothing else to do except to turn inward and guard one's own mind. If the mind does not turn away from desire, there will be no time for Dharma to enter the continuum, so forcibly cutting off attachments is the most profound practice of Mahamudra. If one can cut off each thought in the realm of clear light, without leaving a trace, then all the accomplishments of the two stages will be included within it. If one possesses in one's continuum a view, meditation, and conduct that are measured by scripture, reasoning, and pith instructions, and whose experience is continuous and unerring, then no matter what the appearances, one will not exceed the training of higher states, and a hundred faults will be overshadowed by one virtue. If the view contradicts scripture and clings to emptiness, is unrelated to realization, and lacks the warmth of experience, then no matter how good the behavior, it is only the cause and effect within the three realms, and a hundred virtues will be overshadowed by one fault. Therefore, no matter how much the deluded mind of an ordinary person turns, it is like searching for the edge of the sky with a winnowing fan, unable to ascertain the true nature of the Dharmadhatu. Therefore, one should practice the clear light Mahamudra, which comes from the stages of blessing and is related to the great bliss of empowerment wisdom, which is transmitted through the guru's oral instructions.
