Since suffering from momentary afflictions never ceases, Do not worship the hungry ghost cave as a deity. May we earnestly practice the sacred Dharma! This mindfulness, like the iron gate of a fortress, If not relied upon, the traffic of delusion never ceases. When there are thieves, do not loosen the gate latch. May we earnestly practice the sacred Dharma! The face of reality, like unchanging space, If not seen, the effort of antidotes never ceases. Do not imprison yourself in iron chains. May we earnestly practice the sacred Dharma! The nature of awareness, like a flawless crystal ball, If not realized, the root and foundation will never be severed. When inseparable companions, do not abandon others. May we earnestly practice the sacred Dharma! The face of ordinary consciousness, like a familiar friend, If not in accord, everything done is a deceptive Dharma. With eyes closed, do not grope blindly. May we earnestly practice the sacred Dharma! The instructions of the Teacher were taught by Atisha, And the Kagyu masters took them to heart. May the two bodhicittas arise in our minds, And may everything we do become sacred Dharma! If we advise according to the Dharma, we will have wrong views about the lama. If bad karma ripens, we will lose faith in the deities. If obstacles arise, we will abandon practice. May these not become obstacles to attaining siddhis! Everything we have done is a meaningless wandering in empty places. Everything we have strived for is a cause for hardening our own minds. Everything we have remembered has added to our delusions. All ordinary people who boast of Dharma are binding themselves. There are many things to do, but not a single accomplishment. There are many things to remember, but nothing to rely on. There are many things needed, but no time to gather them. Abandon worldly affairs and meditate on the instructions! If you think of doing, establish the Buddha's words as your witness. If you think of acting, mix your own mind with the Dharma. If you think of practicing, look at the biographies of the Kagyu masters. What else can be done for you who have lost your way? Be content with little and rich with the wealth of satisfaction. Be diligent in practicing the liberation from the eight worldly concerns. May the lama's blessing enter our hearts and our realization be equal to space. May we master the lineage of the Kagyu ocean! This is a wish made by Yonten Gyatso, who loves to live in solitude, in the form of advising himself and urging the compassion of the supreme deity, on a solitary mountain. Having prostrated with my head to the lotus feet of the root guru, the embodiment of all Buddhas, Padma Nyinjorje.

If I may offer a few words of guidance, we have obtained a human body that is like a dream kingdom. Encountering the Buddha's teachings is more precious and rare than a poor person finding a jewel. Even more so, being embraced by a virtuous spiritual friend is more intimate than a child meeting their parents. When we have found such perfect circumstances, if we do not practice the sacred Dharma from the depths of our hearts, but instead let our minds wander like a wind-blown wheel, wasting this short life, which is like the winter sun, in an instant, turning away from higher realms and liberation, and severing our own path to lasting happiness, it is like being blind despite having eyes, deaf despite having ears, mute despite being able to speak, and like being a madman even though our mind is clear. Recognizing this state of our own being, like suddenly awakening from a dreamlike illusion, we should reproach ourselves and expose our own faults. From this moment on, from this very seat, we should direct our body, speech, and mind towards the path of virtue. Let alone sinful and unwholesome thoughts, we should not even let a single moment pass in a neutral, unspecified state. This thought, for all those who have a connection to the Dharma, whether they realize it or not, is in every way a precious jewel, the armor of a vow. Without it, like a foolish simpleton, we will be caught in the endless cycle of worldly affairs, one seemingly important thing following another like ripples on water, and we will never be able to escape from this and attain liberation. Therefore, if we wish to practice the Dharma, it is crucial to first make a firm resolution within ourselves. If we cannot sever our attachment to the eight worldly concerns, even to a single morsel of food or a single piece of clothing, we will develop intense craving and intense infatuation. Many "Geshes" who are content with just a little knowledge of the qualities of the Dharma, such as study, contemplation, empowerment, transmission, understanding, explanation, faith, respect, compassion, pure perception, and experience, have unknowingly and readily adopted wrong views that pervade all schools of thought, both their own and others. Many people claim to be determined to clear away wrong actions like autumn clouds, but this is precisely the kind of deceptive practitioner who will cause the teachings to not last long, as prophesied in the scriptures. Therefore, we should not imitate them, but instead learn all aspects of virtue within ourselves. Do not be overly protective of profound instructions, as if they were precious raindrops. Anything that contradicts the words of the Buddha...
