May heedfulness and awareness not be overcome by dullness and forgetfulness. As long as the true nature is not fully realized, There will never be a time when meditation is unnecessary. Exert effort with balanced tension and relaxation, like tuning a stringed instrument. Do not let go of the mind's essence; hold it tightly. Some, with a view of emptiness, destroy the distinctions of cause and effect. Others criticize meditation that indulges in elaboration. Both are far from the path to enlightenment. Therefore, although the view may be high, precise conduct is most important. Just as a high place makes for a great fall, So too, the higher the realization, the greater the obstacles. Therefore, when qualities arise, do not be attached to them. Especially, by showing contempt for the root guru, If devotion diminishes, great obstacles will surely arise. Even if you become an emanation of the three family protectors, It is essential to view the guru as the naked dharmakaya. In short, do not, with self-created doctrines that contradict the Buddha's words, deceive yourself and others. Practice the instructions that accord with the scriptures, And enter the path that pleases the Buddhas. Thus, the wise and boundless Bhusuku, To fulfill the wishes of Geshe Tenzin Sangpo, In the blessed place of the Kagyu accomplished ones, In the quiet charnel ground of Sala forest, While lying down freely, without attachment, Offered these spontaneous words of advice. Mangalam! I offer to the essence of the three roots, Guru Padmasambhava, in the indestructible, clear drop at my heart center. (Tibetan: རྩ་གསུམ་ཀུན་འདུས་གུ་རུ་པདྨ་སྙིང་དབུས་མི་ཤིགས་དྭངས་མའི་ཐིག་ལེར་མཆོད་དོ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: त्रिमूलसर्वात्मगुरुपद्म हृदय वज्र स्वच्छ बिन्दु अर्घ्यं, Sanskrit Romanization: trimūlasarvātmagurupadma hṛdaya vajra svaccha bindu arghyaṃ, Literal Chinese: Three roots all gathered Guru Padma heart vajra clear bindu offering.) Protect us, who have the appearance of practitioners, from fearlessly leaping into the terrifying abyss of afflictions. Our minds are like a blind person wandering in a vast plain, not knowing where to go. The five poisons are like enemies seeking revenge for the murder of a father, lying in wait in the treacherous paths of conceptual thought. The profound Dharma and instructions are like a skilled doctor who opens the eyes, granting the eyes to discern what to accept and reject, knowing when to fight and when to flee. For example, in the world, there is surely an enemy who wants to kill you. If you recognize them, fight if you can. If you cannot fight, flee. If you have skillful means, reconcile and turn them into a friend. If you do not do any of these three, and rashly go to the enemy's battlefield, you will surely be killed. The army and weapons to fight are also complete. The eyes and feet to flee are also present. The wisdom to transform the enemy into a friend
