Understand that all the essential instructions can be summarized into one, like holding a spear straight to the point, without the need to delve into numerous complex practices or minor details. Such essential instructions, although existing completely and without error in the scriptures of the Buddhas, are too profound and vast, so what is essential? We should, even above the Lesser Vehicle, emphasize the view and practice of the Great Vehicle. Above the Sutra section of the Great Vehicle, we should adopt the path of devotion to the Tantra section of Secret Mantra. Among the four classes of Tantra, we should enter into the Unsurpassed Yoga and aspire to enter this path. Unsurpassed Yoga also has the Generation Stage, the Completion Stage with elaboration, and the Completion Stage without elaboration. The latter is more profound than the former, so one should focus entirely on the Completion Stage without elaboration. However, one must first receive empowerment from any qualified lama and abide by the vows. Merely engaging in the clarity of the Generation Stage and reciting a few mantras, without letting the mind wander, one should focus single-mindedly on the practice of non-elaboration. If one can spend one's life in this way, then obtaining a human body and encountering the Dharma will be meaningful. Among these, encountering the rare and precious Vajrayana, like a star in the daytime, should not be wasted. May this life not be in vain, and may the ultimate aspiration of this life be fulfilled. Although there are many aspects of the Completion Stage, the most profound and easy practice with elaboration, which integrates the intention of the Unsurpassed Yoga Tantras, is the Six Yogas, the Six Dharmas of Naropa, and so on. Non-elaboration is contained within Mahamudra and Dzogchen. If one wishes to practice Mahamudra, one should first purify the mind through the common and uncommon preliminaries. Then, from a qualified lama with an unbroken lineage of blessings, diligently seek the essential instructions for introducing co-emergent wisdom. In actual practice, if one can focus on the essential instructions of the Five-Fold Mahamudra, such as the teachings of the venerable Phagmo Drupa and his sons, one will soon directly see the true face of one's own self-aware Dharmakaya. For any of these practices, faith must be as stable as the earth. Instructions must be like seeds. Diligence must be like farming. Bodhicitta must be like warmth and moisture. Obstacles must be protected against like hail. In this way, one will obtain the supreme accomplishment, like a fruit.

Sons and common fruits, like dust, arise incidentally, this is the nature of things! If faith of aspiration does not arise, then look at the Jataka tales of the Buddha and the Sutras; if faith of delight does not arise, then look at the biographies of the accomplished masters of India and Tibet; if faith of conviction does not arise, then look at the Sutras such as the Hundred Deeds and the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment, and from them, look at the treatises that teach cause and effect, and generate faith. If there is no instruction, even if one spends one's life on Dharma and practice, there will be no time for faith to arise in the mind, so seek instruction. Even if there is instruction, if there is no lineage of blessing of practice, qualities will not arise from within, so rely on an unfeigned lineage. Even if one obtains instruction, if there is no diligence, it is like dying of thirst on the seashore, so practice alternately and without interruption. If there is no Bodhicitta, then all the view, meditation, and conduct one does will be in vain, so whatever one does, aim for the benefit of others. The obstacles to Dharma are profound and numerous, and it is difficult even for oneself to discern whether they have arisen or not, so look at the Sutras such as the chapter on examining demons, and the mountain Dharma of tongue meditation, and examine them and then adopt or reject. Therefore, if someone who abandons the Great Vehicle practices concisely, it is: the faith of wanting to attain enlightenment, the reverence for the Dharmakaya of the Lama, the compassion for all sentient beings without discrimination, the mindfulness of unwavering single-pointedness, and the pure vision of impartiality and pervasiveness, these five are the main practice of virtue. During session breaks, even if it is a small virtuous deed, mainly the six perfections, do not easily abandon it; and for great virtuous deeds, do whatever can be accomplished with an attitude of not being discouraged. If there is no ability to accomplish accumulated roots of virtue, or even if there is ability, it will be harmed by distraction to Samadhi, then temporarily abandon all distractions and focus on Samadhi, that alone is most decisive. We who have entered the gate of the teachings, growing old and nearing death, spend more than half our lives looking around distractedly, and about half our time is wasted in the distractions of the monastery, our minds are controlled by the eight worldly dharmas, we enjoy wealth accumulated by wrong livelihood and offerings like an ocean, and burdened with a load of sins and transgressions like a mountain, thinking that before long we will experience the suffering of the lower realms, like a hunter driving a wild animal to the edge, with fear and regret.
