Even if misfortune occurs, do not blame others, thinking that it was caused by someone else's harm. Instead, recognize that this mind that grasps at self in what is selfless, from beginningless time until now, has done various non-virtuous deeds solely to satisfy its own desires, which has led to these sufferings falling upon oneself. Therefore, do not blame anyone else, but recognize that it is caused by the attachment to cherishing oneself, so strive to overcome it. Put all your efforts into combating self-grasping. As it says in the *Bodhicharyavatara*: "All the fears and sufferings that exist in the world, and all the immeasurable losses and pains, arise from clinging to the self. What need have I for this great demon?" It also says: "This one has harmed me hundreds of times, and has harmed me in samsara in hundreds of ways. Now, remembering my past grievances, I will destroy your self-serving mind." And so on. Cultivate gratitude towards all beings. Because, in general, there is no way to practice the path to Buddhahood without relying on sentient beings. Therefore, for someone who wishes to attain enlightenment, the Buddha and sentient beings are equally important. In particular, all sentient beings have been one's parents, without exception, so their kindness is profound. Furthermore, these beings who cause obstacles and harm are one's companions and allies in accumulating merit and purifying obscurations, so consider them to be extremely kind, and practice giving and taking. Even towards dogs and insects, do not be angry, and strive to give them actual help. If you cannot, then pray that these sentient beings or harm-doers quickly be separated from suffering, possess happiness, and attain the state of Buddhahood. Also, recite this in words. And furthermore, from now on, generate the thought that whatever virtuous deeds I do, I will do for their sake. To gods and demons, think: From beginningless time, I have harmed them, so they inflict harm in return. Now, in repayment, I will give flesh and blood, etc. Therefore, in front of the harm-doer, abandon your own body, and say: My flesh and blood, etc., enjoy whatever you wish! Then, give it away with joyful abandon. Meditate that the harm-doer enjoys the flesh and blood, etc., and that their mind is filled with uncontaminated bliss, and that they generate the two aspects of bodhichitta. Furthermore, if one does not notice the arising of afflictions because one is separated from the antidote, then this harm-doer is reminding one, so they must certainly be a manifestation of a guru or a Buddha.

I think, you encouraged me to train my Bodhicitta, I am very grateful. Also, if sickness and suffering arise, think: if these did not arise, I would be distracted by the affairs of this life and would not remember the Dharma. Because these make me remember the Dharma, I think this is the activity of the Lama and the Three Jewels, I am deeply grateful from the bottom of my heart. In short, whoever has the thought and action of accomplishing self-interest is a worldly householder; whoever has the thought and action of accomplishing the benefit of others is a Dharma practitioner.
