It is difficult to obtain leisure. Compared to other beings such as animals, obtaining a human body seems only possible. Therefore, I must not waste this one time I have obtained a human body, and I must practice the pure Dharma in any case. Moreover, there is no certainty in life, and there are many causes of death. Because there is no guarantee that I will not die even today, I must strive to practice the holy Dharma now. At the time of death, nothing follows except good and evil, neither food, wealth, enjoyment, dwelling, body, nor power, and there is no benefit whatsoever, so there is no need for anything. After death, due to the power of karma, no matter where one is born in the six realms, there is no happiness even to the tip of a hair, only suffering. Because the result of happiness and suffering arises from good and evil deeds without deception, one should not commit evil even if it costs one's life. One should diligently practice only accomplishing good deeds with great effort. At the end of each session, recite the seven-branch prayer as much as possible, and during the breaks between sessions, put the meaning of the contemplation into practice, which should be applied to all preliminary and main practices. Second, the main part has two aspects: meditating on the ultimate Bodhicitta as a side practice, and mainly meditating on the conventional Bodhicitta. The first part has two aspects: the session and the break between sessions. The first part, the preliminary practice is after the Guru Yoga, sit upright and count the outgoing and incoming breaths twenty-one times without disturbance, so that it becomes a suitable vessel for meditation. The main part is, as it is said in the scriptures: "Consider all phenomena as dreams." Therefore, all phenomena of the vessel and its contents, which appear as objects to be grasped, are only illusions of one's own mind. In reality, there is no truth to be established at all, just like the appearances in a dream. Think like this and cultivate the intention a little. If you wonder if the mind itself is true, as it is said in the scriptures: "Examine the nature of unborn awareness." Therefore, by looking closely at the nature of one's own mind, because it is not established in any color, shape, etc., and there is no source of arising, it is initially unborn. Now it does not exist anywhere inside or outside the body, etc. Ultimately, there is no place to go or cease, and through the investigation of mind-seeking, one should obtain a decisive understanding of the nature of awareness that is free from arising, ceasing, and abiding. At that time, one will feel that all body and mind are empty. There are definitely benefits and drawbacks to emptiness.

If antidotal thoughts arise, such as "now it is gone," the antidote itself will be self-liberated. It is said, "When the very nature of the antidote, the notion of emptiness, is observed, it itself will be liberated into its own ground without support." Relax loosely in that state. These are the essential instructions for the accomplishment of analytical meditation. "Rest in the state of the essence, the alaya." This is the direct instruction on how to rest. Separated from all the activity of the seven consciousnesses, the essence of all phenomena, which is indicated by the terms alaya-nature, goodness, and sugatagarbha, is the nature of freedom from elaboration, clarity, and non-conceptuality. Without grasping at anything with the mind in a state where no characteristic whatsoever is established, rest in the natural state. In short, without following after conceptual thoughts, but resting the mind itself evenly in a clear and non-conceptual state, that is the essential point of resting meditation. The subsequent seven branches are explained as before. Second: During the breaks between sessions, act like an illusory person. This means that whatever activity you engage in during the breaks between sessions, do not separate from the experience of equipoise. Continuously cultivate the intention of knowing that all appearances, whether self or other, environment or inhabitants, are like an illusory person, appearing but without true existence. Second, cultivating relative bodhicitta is divided into three: conduct, the main practice, and the practices for breaks between sessions. First, the preliminaries, etc., are as before. It is necessary to cultivate loving-kindness and compassion as the basis for giving and taking. First, visualize your own root mother in front of you. From the time I was helpless, she cared for me with great effort. She endured all sickness, cold, and hunger. She gave me food and clothing. She wiped away impurities. She taught me goodness and prevented me from doing evil. Because of this, I am now able to encounter the teachings of the Buddha and practice the Dharma. She is so incredibly kind. Not only in this life, but in countless lifetimes, she has done the same for me. For my sake, she herself wanders in samsara, experiencing various sufferings. Cultivate a strong sense of compassion for this. Then, generate compassion that is not just lip service, and after becoming skilled, gradually expand the scope. Visualize all sentient beings as being just like your own root mother. From beginningless time, there is not one who has not been your mother, not one who has not given you help. Start with friends and relatives, who are easy to generate compassion for, then the beings of the three lower realms, who experience extremely intense suffering, gradually.
