Meditate on those who are dying, and on those great sinners who are happy in this life but go to hell immediately after death. Then, meditate on those who are difficult to be reborn, and on enemies and demons who cause harm. Then, meditate on all sentient beings. My parents unwillingly suffer all kinds of pain, and they enjoy the gross things that are the cause of suffering, they are so pitiful. What should I do? Now I will also repay their kindness by eliminating harm, bringing happiness and joy, and thus benefiting them. I will cultivate this unbearable determination. Second, practice giving and taking alternately. It is said, "Apply this to the wind." For those parents who are the object of compassion, suffering directly harms them, and the cause of suffering indirectly harms them. Therefore, visualize taking all the various sufferings in the mother's continuum, as well as the karma and afflictions that are the cause of suffering, and strongly generate the joy of taking these sufferings. Visualize giving your body, possessions, and the merits and happiness of the three times to all parents and sentient beings without any hesitation, and visualize them receiving these happinesses one by one, and strongly generate the joy of giving them happiness. In particular, visualize the clear difference. In conjunction with your own breath, condense all the sins, sufferings, and all unpleasant things of all sentient beings into a black mass, enter through the nostrils, and dissolve into your heart, so that sentient beings are forever free from sin and suffering. When exhaling, visualize all your happiness and merits turning into white light like moonlight, emanating from the nostrils, and dissolving into all sentient beings. Visualize them immediately attaining Buddhahood as a result, and cultivate joy. In this way, incorporating giving and taking into the breath is practiced as the main practice of a session. Afterwards, practice it whenever you remember it. This is the main practice of mind training. As Shantideva said: If you do not exchange your own happiness for the suffering of others, you will not only fail to attain Buddhahood, but you will also have no happiness in samsara. And so on, extensively explained. Third, the practice during the breaks between sessions: three objects, three poisons, three roots of virtue. The so-called object is.

Attachment arises towards pleasant and beneficial things. Hatred arises towards unpleasant and harmful things. Ignorance arises from not thinking about intermediate things. Thus, the three poisons constantly arise based on the three realms. Recognize this immediately. For example, when desire arises, contemplate thus: May all the afflictions of all sentient beings, all such desires, be gathered into this one body of mine. May all sentient beings possess the virtue of non-attachment. May their afflictions be cut off by this one of mine, and may they be free from afflictions until Buddhahood is attained. Extend this to hatred and so forth, and by applying it to the path, the three poisons are transformed into three limitless roots of virtue. As it is said: "Subdue all conduct with words." Therefore, at all times, may their sins ripen upon me, and may all my virtues ripen upon them. This is the word of the noble ones. May all profits and victories be offered to the Lord sentient beings, and may all losses and debts be taken by me. This comes from the sayings of the Kadampa. May all the sins and sufferings of sentient beings ripen upon me, and may all my virtues and happiness ripen upon sentient beings. This is the word of Gyalsé Thogmé. Recite any such words and generate strong aspiration. The order of taking begins with oneself. As it is said: "In order to be able to take on the suffering of others, begin with oneself in the order." That is, take upon oneself now, with the mind, all the suffering that will ripen in the future, and having purified it, then take on the suffering of others. Third, transforming it into the path: As it is said: "When the vessel and its contents are filled with sin, transform adverse conditions into the path to enlightenment." Thus it is said. When the wealth of the vessel declines, and sentient beings of the contents harm with insubordination, etc., when filled with many sufferings, the result of sin, it is necessary to transform those adverse conditions that befall one into the path to enlightenment. There are three of these: relying on conventional bodhicitta, relying on ultimate bodhicitta, and relying on special conduct. The first is: Place all blame on one. As it is said: Sickness of one's own body, suffering of one's mind, slander from others, harm from enemies, disputes in lawsuits, in short, unpleasant things for oneself and one's own side
