Secondly, for beings of medium capacity, there are three points regarding the guidance on liberation in the bardo: the nature, the divisions, and the respective practices. The first point is: all that appears other than the ground of primordial purity is the state of bardo. The phenomena of the ground appearing as wisdom is the pure bardo of dharmata, while the deluded phenomena encompassed by the six realms of samsara are the impure bardo of delusion. They all arise from the dharmadhatu of primordial purity, and the mind with its seeds, before the appearance is perfected in the dharmadhatu, is the bardo. The second point has four divisions: the bardo of the nature of birth and death, the bardo of dying, the bardo of dharmata, and the bardo of becoming. The first is: from the establishment of birth in the mother's womb until struck by the disease of death. The second is: from turning towards death until the cessation of the inner breath. The third is: after the cessation of the inner breath, the appearance of the clear light arises, until the dissolution of the spontaneously present appearance. The fourth is: after the dissolution of the spontaneously present appearance, until the establishment of the next rebirth. Thirdly, the four bardos are shown by way of two examples and two meanings. First, regarding the bardo of the birth place, it is like entering a bird's nest that has cut off doubts. The meaning is: relying on the noble lama, through hearing and thinking, cutting off doubts about the instructions he has taught, and through meditation, the meaning of reality is experienced without error, cutting off doubts in the awareness of experience, thereby perfecting the qualities of the four paths and ten bhumis of the path of learning, and manifesting the fruit of no more learning. Second, regarding the bardo of dying, it is like looking at a beautiful mirror to clarify. This is to clearly recall the previously practiced instructions at this time. How to recall? In the clear light of death and the corresponding stages of dissolution, when the key points of the instructions clearly appear in the mind, the eyes gaze at the light, and awareness abides in emptiness and clarity. Thus, the present clear light is like the path of birth, and the clear light of the bardo is like a mirage. The two are liberated like the simultaneous rising of the fifteenth moon and the setting of the sun. Furthermore, the "Union of Sun and Moon Sutra" says: When earth dissolves into earth, the body becomes heavy, does not take food, and the power of standing and walking is completely exhausted. When water dissolves into water, saliva and nasal mucus flow. Similarly, when fire dissolves into fire, the mouth and nose become dry, and the body's heat dissipates from the extremities. Similarly, wind dissolves into wind.

When it dissolves, the breath becomes rapid, the limbs tremble, and the eyes roll upwards. Whoever shows these signs will surely go to the next life. At that time, one should integrate the guru's instructions into one's own being. As it is said, at this time, with regard to the meaning of the instructions, one should unwaveringly bring forth awareness and clearly observe without distraction. When the breath dissolves into consciousness, the two lights, mother and child, meet and are liberated into the primordial realm. Third, in the bardo of dharmata, like a child entering its mother's embrace, one should have faith in one's own appearances. Because the meaning of the instructions has been integrated into experience, no matter how the appearances of dharmata arise, one should not be afraid, but rather recognize that one's own appearances are the play of wisdom through the five ways of dissolution. First, when consciousness dissolves into space, the radiance of awareness enters and remains in the eyes. In the first instant, the appearance of primordial purity will appear, like an autumn sky without clouds, a boundless and limitless light. Then, when space dissolves into light, the appearances that seemed to change will change, and the appearances of the five lights and the three appearances of sound, light, and rays will appear, pervading the sky. Then, when light dissolves into union, the assemblies of the five families will gradually appear in the five days of meditation. Then, when union dissolves into wisdom, the appearances of the four joys and the bindus will appear. Then, when wisdom dissolves into spontaneous accomplishment, upwards will appear the dharmakaya of primordial purity, directly will appear the five sambhogakaya families, and downwards will appear the nirmanakaya realms that tame beings. At that time, no matter how the appearances of dharmata arise, one should not be afraid, but rather be certain that one's own appearances are the play of wisdom, like meeting a familiar person. These five ways of dissolution do not necessarily have to proceed in order. According to the faculties of beings, the superior ones, like the union of the sun and moon, abandon the body and the appearance of light and are liberated simultaneously; the intermediate ones are liberated in the appearance of union or wisdom; and the inferior ones are liberated in the appearance of spontaneous accomplishment. The way appearances arise also only appears up to the point of liberation, and below that, it dissolves into the realm and does not appear. In whichever appearance one is liberated, in the first instant, one should recognize it as one's own appearance. Second, abide in the recognition. Third, be liberated in the abiding. Fourth, from the liberation, benefit sentient beings.
