Therefore, through clear means, non-conceptual emptiness will arise in the continuum. The third is: the key point of the body remains as before, the key point of speech is to let the breath rest naturally. The key point of the mind is that for all the conceptual thoughts of the past, present, and future, one neither thinks nor contemplates, makes no adjustments, but rather relaxes naturally, without artifice, loosely and without distraction, remaining alert. By abiding in this way, the mind becomes focused on its object, and the state of non-conceptual self-luminosity exists like the sky, which is the measure of habituation. This has the special necessity of increasing the mind of enlightenment. To clarify this: Blissful, clear, and non-conceptual, like the sky; subduing the mind with the bliss of supreme contemplation; just as fertile land can grow good crops; one should practice this (method) as the foundation of all samadhi. One should recite and practice in this way. Here, in the lineage of the great vidyadharas: first, practice mind training on impermanence, then take refuge. After the second mind training, generate bodhicitta. After the third and fourth, offer the mandala. After the fifth, practice the meditation and recitation of Vajrasattva. After the sixth, guru yoga. Then, mind training. After the seventh, begin to learn about the channels, winds, and bindus. Third, purifying the continuum through the four common preliminary practices: Although it is not explicitly stated in the Copper Book and the pith instructions of the Omniscient One, in the back writing of the Red Letter it says, "In a secluded place, first accumulate the accumulation of merit." The text only implies this. The masters of the lineage, such as the great treasure revealer father and son, have practiced this without interruption. There are five aspects to this: the teaching of refuge, which is distinguished from inferior paths; the teaching of generating bodhicitta, the root of the Mahayana; the teaching of the meditation and recitation of Vajrasattva, the essence of purifying obscurations; the teaching of the mandala, which perfects the two accumulations; the teaching of guru yoga, which quickly brings blessings. First, refuge has two aspects: conventional truth and ultimate truth. The first is: we, even if we are reborn in the happy realms through the discipline of abandoning the ten non-virtuous actions and virtuous deeds, but if we do not attain the unsurpassed enlightenment that is liberation from suffering, then the power of the virtuous deeds done previously will be exhausted, and we will fall back into the lower realms, suffering intensely for a long time.

One must experience various unbearable sufferings. There is no one else who can save from that except the Three Jewels. Moreover, the Buddha who directly appears to oneself is the holy Lama, because he is inseparable from the body, speech, and mind of all Buddhas of the past, present, and future. With the thought of seeking refuge and assistance from the Three Jewels, the objects of refuge, relax the body and mind. Visualize the place where you are as a beautiful and pleasing pure land made of various jewels. In the center is a wish-fulfilling tree with branches and leaves that are fully expanded, completely pervading the entire expanse of the sky. In the heart of the central branch, on a jeweled throne supported by lions, with various lotuses and sun and moon cushions, high and wide, is the essence, the kind root Lama himself, in the form of glorious Samantabhadra, with the attire of the Sambhogakaya. His body color is not pure blue, but clear and radiant, emitting rays of light. He is adorned with a wealth of silk and jewel ornaments. His two hands are in the mudra of meditation. He sits in the vajra posture. Visualize him as having a body that is fully endowed with all the marks and signs of perfection. He is surrounded by the lineage Lamas. On the branches extending in the four directions, each seat is visualized as being high and wide. In the seat in front is the special Buddha, glorious Vajrasattva, surrounded by the deities of the six classes of tantra. On the seat to the right is the common Buddha, the teacher Shakyamuni, surrounded by the supreme emanations of all the Buddhas of the ten directions and three times. On the seat in the back, the Dharma Jewels of scripture and realization are abiding in the form of stacked scriptures. On the seat to the left, the Sangha of Bodhisattvas such as Avalokiteshvara, Manjushri, and Vajrapani, and the Sangha of Shravakas such as the venerable Shariputra and Maudgalyayana are abiding. In the spaces between these seats, visualize the special Sangha, Dakinis, Dharma protectors, guardians, and those with the eye of wisdom, abiding as densely as a mass of clouds. In front of them, oneself and all sentient beings are arranged like the dust of the great earth. All of them, with great respect in body, speech, and mind, seek refuge.
