Sometimes, the blessings of the deity do not appear because of the fault of one's own prayers not reaching. It is impossible for the deity to be without blessings. Therefore, at all times, remember the virtues of the Three Jewels, cultivate faith, and strive in prayer. Do not accumulate sins through idle talk and curses, etc. For the supports of body, speech, and mind, and all those wearing yellow robes, offer prostrations, offerings, and devotion with the thought of the deity's true form. Repair old supports of the Three Jewels and build new ones. Do not place them in open or difficult places. Especially, do not use them for redemption, mortgages, etc., do not even think about it. Do not carelessly trample even on fragments of tsatsas or even a single letter. Remembering kindness, respectfully perform prostrations, offerings, praises, and other actions through the three doors of body, speech, and mind. Remembering compassion, guide other beings to take refuge and proclaim the great virtues of the Three Jewels. Remembering benefits, practice taking refuge six times day and night. Remembering faults, do not abandon the refuge even when facing life-threatening situations. Remembering faith, no matter what happiness, suffering, high or low status occurs, rely on the deity again and do not be discouraged. In short, after taking refuge in the Buddha, do not worship other worldly deities. After taking refuge in the Dharma, abandon thoughts and actions that harm sentient beings. After taking refuge in the Sangha, do not associate with non-Buddhist practitioners or those similar to them. If one can obtain a qualified (teacher), then the refuge also includes most of the stages of the path of Sutra and Tantra. Merely the practice of refuge has not been integrated into one's mind, but one shouts loudly, this is a great cliff of going astray. Therefore, if one can constantly remain inseparable from the practice of refuge, one can enter the ranks of Buddhists. Small sins are eliminated, and great sins are lightened and weakened. One will not be hindered by obstacles from humans and non-humans. All virtuous roots such as vows and recitations will increase more and more. The faith in the deity is firm, and even if driven away, it will not go. In the White Lotus Sutra, it is said: Those lay practitioners who have entered my teachings, and those who pretend to be monks, will also completely enter the realm of no remainder and pass into nirvana in this very fortunate eon, and not one will be left. This is also said because of taking refuge.

Thinking about its benefits, I will briefly mention the great benefits it possesses. Following refuge, the next step is to generate the mind of enlightenment (bodhicitta). Generally, even if the mind has turned to Dharma, whether or not one enters the path of Dharma depends on whether or not the mind of enlightenment has arisen in the mindstream. Whatever virtue, great or small, is done, if it becomes a means to attain Buddhahood, then it is said to have entered the path of Dharma. If it is seized by the mind of enlightenment, what need is there to mention virtue? Even ordinary activities become a means to accomplish Buddhahood. Therefore, the sutra says: "Those who desire to attain perfect enlightenment should not study many Dharmas, but should study one. What is that one? It is the mind of enlightenment." It is said. There are two types of bodhicitta: relative and ultimate. These two are the root of the eighty-four thousand collections of Dharma, so the extent of their explanation is difficult to exhaust. Although many detailed explanations are not needed at this time of settling and meditating, if you want to know, you must study the Six Treatises of the Kadampa School. In short, the essence of relative bodhicitta is compassion. The essence of ultimate bodhicitta is the wisdom that realizes the nature of reality. These two also arise in dependence on each other. As Father Dampa said: "Without compassion, realization does not arise. Fish come in water, not on dry land." Likewise, based on the relative, one realizes the ultimate nature of reality without error. At that time, for sentient beings who have not realized it, unartificial compassion arises spontaneously, and the three doors can be used for the benefit of others. Therefore, whether or not it is initially seized by the mind of enlightenment is measured by relative bodhicitta, so first of all, there must be a way to generate it. There are two types: aspiration and engagement, and both must arise based on rituals. Some supreme individuals can also generate it by sincerely reciting the three vows of taking the Bodhisattva vows in the presence of a support. However, most people must receive the vows from a virtuous spiritual friend whose lineage of vows has not been interrupted. In any case, afterwards, it is best to confess and take vows six times a day and night, moderately at the beginning and end of four sessions, and at least twice a day and night. That is, for the sake of all sentient beings, one must attain the state of Buddhahood with all-knowing wisdom. Repeatedly meditating in this way is the aspiration.
