Since one is not born in the eight states of unfreedom, one possesses leisure and endowments. Even if one obtains a body capable of practicing Dharma, if one wants to practice pure Dharma, one must also be free from the sixteen states of unfreedom. These include the five poisons being very coarse and disturbing the mindstream, being controlled by sinful friends, having reversed views and conduct, being very lazy, the awakening of past bad karma causing obstacles to erupt like a flood, becoming a slave or servant controlled by others, entering the Dharma only out of fear of hunger or death but engaging in non-Dharma activities, pretending to be a practitioner for the sake of gain and fame, etc. These are the eight states of unfreedom due to sudden causes. And being overly attached to body, possessions, etc., having an extremely coarse personality and engaging in bad conduct, not being afraid no matter how much one speaks of the suffering of samsara and the lower realms, not believing no matter how much one speaks of the benefits of liberation, naturally liking non-virtuous deeds, not caring about the Dharma like giving grass to a dog, the root of bodhicitta and vows being lost, vows to the lama and Dharma friends being broken. These are the eight states of unfreedom due to lack of intelligence. These sixteen states of unfreedom also cause the Dharma not to arise in the mindstream and become the root of falling into the lower realms. Therefore, one should rejoice that one was not previously stained by these, and learn the methods to prevent these from arising in the future. Thus, one has obtained the precious human body free from the eight states of unfreedom. Due to the circumstances of the Dharma, one is born in a central land where the Dharma flourishes. Having complete five senses such as eyes, one is able to understand what is being taught. Not encountering wrong views and entering the gate of the Victorious One's teachings, one does not go astray in one's actions. Having faith in the Three Jewels, this is the five personal endowments. Even though many world systems form and dissolve, it is rare for a Buddha to appear even once, but now Shakyamuni Buddha has appeared. Even if solitary Buddhas and others appear, they do not teach the Dharma, but now this Victorious One has taught the profound and vast sacred Dharma. The previous teachings have not declined either, but still remain. There are also many who follow this teaching. Other sentient beings have renunciation due to old age, etc., therefore they also have compassion for practitioners, giving food, clothing, and necessities, and are not impoverished due to livelihoods that accord with the Dharma, these are the five other endowments. In short, one possesses ten endowments. All sentient beings naturally engage in sinful actions, and virtue

The difference between virtuous and non-virtuous actions is vast. Among virtuous actions, maintaining discipline to obtain a human body is extremely difficult. Therefore, the bodies in the three lower realms are like dust on the great earth, while the paths of gods and humans are exceedingly rare. Among these, a human body endowed with Dharma is even rarer, like countless insects under a single stone slab. There are countless people in a country, but only a fraction of them practice the Dharma. And those who practice the Dharma properly are like stars in the daytime. This human body is also faced with dangers such as fire, water, poison, weapons, constellations, hail, cliffs, etc., and it is uncertain when they will come. The causes of death are many, and the causes of life are few. Between life and death, the breath is merely the difference between exhaling and inhaling, and it is more fragile than a water bubble. Therefore, this human body that I have now obtained is so precious that it is impossible to obtain again. It should not be wasted. If one were to take a body like that of an animal, let alone attain enlightenment, one would not even be able to pick up a single pebble, and one would involuntarily accumulate many causes for falling into the lower realms. Relying on this human body, one can also attain the state of a fully enlightened Buddha. Such a great meaning has been wasted in vain in the past. Even worldly people, for the sake of long-term happiness, diligently engage in farming and other activities. But I am unable to exert even a little bit of diligence and perseverance to accomplish the wishes of lifetimes. It is truly useless, regrettable, and deceived by demons. From today onwards, I will devote myself solely to the sacred Dharma, hoping not to do meaningless things again, and I will repeatedly think in this way. Generally speaking, unfinished business is called karmic connection. In the previous life, there was a karmic connection for practicing Dharma, so in this life, it is easy to have faith in and learn from the Dharma and the Guru. This is a sign of the awakening of virtuous karma. But if one is now accustomed to evil, the karmic connection in the next life will only lead to falling into the lower realms, and it will be impossible to obtain a human body again. As the Sutra of the Essence of Earth says: There are ten types of people who are difficult to be born as humans in samsara. What are these ten? Those who do not plant roots of virtue, do not accumulate merit, follow evil friends,
