Ground, accumulation of merit. Morality, patience, and diligence are the accumulation of morality. Samadhi, wisdom, strength, and knowledge are the accumulation of wisdom. The sutras say that there are two accumulations: generosity and morality are merit, and wisdom is the accumulation of wisdom. Patience, diligence, and samadhi belong to both. If these are not grasped by bodhicitta, they are actions that are in accordance with merit, and they will not become the cause of liberation from higher realms. If they are grasped by bodhicitta, they are actions that are in accordance with liberation, and they become the cause of buddhahood. On top of that, if they are grasped by the view of the three spheres being completely pure, then they are uncontaminated accumulations, and they are the direct method for attaining bodhi. There are three types of generosity: material generosity, such as food, clothing, utensils, and even ink and paper for writing, give as much as you can afford. Even if it is a beggar, give them something so that they do not go away empty-handed. Later, think of obtaining the kingdom of a universal monarch and giving away your body and possessions. Fearless generosity, medicine for diseases, protection from evil spirits, showing the way on cliffs, escorting people in dangerous places, removing obstacles to practice and morality, rescuing from punishment, Protection from the harm of punishment, enemies, thieves, wild animals, and the four elements, etc., actually put into practice as much as possible. Afterwards, make the vow to be able to save even the suffering of the lower realms. Dharma generosity, if you have the ability to teach the Dharma, do not be greedy for fame and fortune, and without arrogance, teach the Dharma that will definitely benefit others in the short term and ultimately, as much as you can. If you cannot, then aspire to teach the Dharma to humans and non-humans, and proclaim the sutras and dharanis spoken by the Buddha. There are three types of morality: the morality of abstaining from wrongdoing, such as the ten non-virtues, which are naturally blameworthy, and all the blameworthy things that are prohibited, such as violations of the three vows, should be protected as if they were your life. The morality of accumulating good dharmas, do not just cling to a single good deed, but practice all aspects of it. Practice what you have already done, and make vows to accomplish what you have not yet done. The morality of benefiting sentient beings, from the time you generate bodhicitta, do whatever you can to accomplish things that can benefit others. For those that cannot be accomplished, you must also make great vows. Self-continuum

It is not enough to be merely untainted by faults. Patience also has three aspects: Patience that is indifferent to harm such as others' harsh words, beatings, robbery, etc.; patience that, when practicing Dharma, is not disturbed by unfavorable conditions, and regardless of illness, hunger, thirst, fatigue, and exhaustion, accepts suffering; patience that, without fear, can understand the skillful and profound methods of mantra, the great deeds of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and the meaning of emptiness free from elaboration, and has firm faith in the Dharma—these should all be cultivated. Diligence also has three aspects: Not engaging in the contempt of thinking "It's okay not to do this kind of small good deed," or the discouragement of thinking "I can't accomplish so much" regarding great good deeds, but rather diligently engaging with joy, the unyielding armor-like diligence; not being lazy when engaging in good deeds, but continuing until they are completed, the diligence of application; and not being impatient even if warmth, signs, and benefits do not immediately appear after initially engaging in something, but rather increasing effort and not turning back until the result is obtained, the irreversible diligence—these should all be practiced. Regarding meditation: Meditation that thoroughly subdues body and mind and dwells in bliss in this very life; meditation that manifestly accomplishes qualities such as clairvoyance and magical powers; and meditation that, relying on the power of samadhi, benefits sentient beings—all three of these must rely on a calm abiding (shamatha) that is free from faults. Because calm abiding is the basis of all qualities, it is essential to establish a firm foundation. Its cause is a secluded mind. And a secluded mind arises from a secluded body. A secluded body arises from having few affairs and few activities. And its cause requires few desires, which means being content with just coarse food, clothing, lodging, and bedding. In short, the root of calm abiding lies in having few desires and being content. Regarding wisdom: Wisdom that understands the ultimate truth by realizing the emptiness of reality; wisdom that understands the conventional truth by being skilled in cause and effect and dependent origination; and wisdom that understands how to benefit beings through the four means of attraction. Alternatively, the three wisdoms of hearing, contemplating, and meditating—these should all be cultivated as much as possible. By accumulating merit in this way, even temporarily, immeasurable happiness of gods and humans will arise. Ultimately, when the two accumulations and the six perfections are fully perfected, one will attain omniscience.
