Having faith in the essence of the departed, meditating on the meaning of selflessness, visualizing the three circles of what is to be purified (sins and obscurations), what purifies (deity and mantra), and who purifies (oneself), as being without inherent existence, and reciting, or practicing the yoga of profound emptiness, or cultivating the aspiration of unreal illusion-like thoughts that are in accordance with it, are six. If one can do any of these, one can thoroughly utilize the cause and effect of sins. Here, in order to quickly purify the gross sins and obscurations that hinder the arising of the realization of the actual Mahamudra, the practice and recitation of Vajrasattva are taught. In particular, the sins and obscurations accumulated in this life are very obstructive to experience because the time is near. Especially, the three vows, and especially the vows of body, speech, and mind of the Guru, are very serious offenses. Violating other samayas of secret mantra, and eating offerings and ransom objects, etc., also diminish the original experience and hinder the generation of new experiences, so the recitation of the Vajrasattva Hundred Syllable Mantra is especially praised for purifying these sins. Jowo Je (Atisha) said: Many subtle offenses of secret mantra often occur, just like wiping a mandala and placing it in a dusty place, it will be immediately covered with dust. If someone asks: Then when will realization arise on the path? The answer is: However, secret mantra has many skillful means, and many subtle offenses can be purified in an instant by various skillful means. Then he gave a vast practice and recitation of the Hundred Syllable Mantra. In addition, the immeasurable benefits of temporary and ultimate are unanimously proclaimed in the new and old tantras. The following is a brief summary from the Indian treatises: As it is said: The nature of the all-pervading five wisdoms, Dharani and mantra and mudra, Stupa, mandala, examination also, The hundred-syllable mantra is like one. There is no such merit, Superior to the hundred-syllable mantra, What merit is well spoken, The number of atoms, All Buddhas adorn. It is also said: Whoever recites the hundred-syllable mantra, Untimely death and all diseases, Sorrow and suffering will not arise. Whoever recites the hundred-syllable mantra, Poverty and suffering will not arise, All enemies will be eliminated, All wishes

Everything will be perfectly accomplished. Whoever holds the hundred-syllable mantra, those who desire a son will find a son, those who desire wealth will obtain wealth, and those who have no land will obtain land. If you want to live long, you should hold the hundred-syllable mantra. Even if life is exhausted, one will live happily for three hundred years. One will be happy in this life and go to the Pure Land of Bliss after death. Whoever holds the hundred-syllable mantra, dakinis, spirits, zombies, shadow demons, and those who speak evil cannot harm them. Even those who have committed great sins will surely see the Buddha. Reciting the hundred-syllable mantra will increase the wisdom of the foolish, and the unlucky will become fortunate. Calamities and sufferings will be completely destroyed. Even those who have committed the five heinous crimes will be purified by reciting the hundred-syllable mantra. In life after life, one will become a lineage of a Chakravartin king. Ultimately, one will be inclined towards liberation and attain Buddhahood. Thus it is said. If one is diligent in this, small and medium sins will be eradicated from the root. Great sins will not increase, but will be suppressed and gradually purified. In general, if faith in karma arises, it is impossible not to have regret from sins. At that time, repentance can be considered qualified. By purifying the continuum in this way, it seems impossible not to generate realization, but we only follow the customs of the monastery, reciting some verbal things, without qualified faith and regret, etc. Therefore, realization is as difficult as a tortoise race, and the root cause lies in this. ༈ །།Third, regarding the instructions on the mandala that perfects the two accumulations. For the mandala, if the material is good, such as jewels, etc., it doesn't matter if it is small. If the material is not good, such as clay or wood, it needs to be larger. If there is no wealth, wooden boards, etc., can be used, and if even that is not available, it is sufficient to visualize it in the mind. The main thing is the intention. Two mandalas are needed, the one with good and large material is used as the mandala for practice, and the other is used as the mandala for offering. The offering heaps are best made of jewels such as gold and silver. The middle ones are conch shells and cowrie shells. The lowest are clean grains such as rice, moistened with fragrant moisture. If wealthy, replace them with new ones each time. If not wealthy, add some new grains separately to replenish them. Afterwards, enjoy the offering grains yourself.
