I confess. Many misfortunes arise. The guardian deities are negligent, and evil spirits look for opportunities. One falls into the ranks of evil people. Those related to one are afflicted by the shadow of sin, and thus it is inauspicious. One also dreams various kinds of bad dreams. One's own mind is also uneasy. Bad causes of death and severe fatal illnesses occur. At the time of death, there is execution, fear, dread, and suffering. In the bardo, there is also great delusion. After death, according to the magnitude of one's sins, great, medium, or small, one experiences the intense and prolonged suffering of the three lower realms. Even if one is born in the heavens at some point, one will be short-lived, have many illnesses, and be hated and opposed by enemies for no reason. Famines and plagues, etc., will occur in the country. As a result of similar causes, one delights in sin and suffering increases continuously. It would be acceptable to commit sins if it were something one had to do and that was definitely beneficial to oneself. But that is not the case; it is either for the sake of subduing enemies and protecting relatives, or for wealth, enjoyment, and fame, or for food and clothing, etc. No matter how complete those things may be, they are of no benefit whatsoever, not even as much as a sesame seed, at the time of one's death. Not to mention fame, enjoyment, children, etc. One cannot take even a single mouthful of food or a single piece of clothing; when one wanders alone in the wilderness, the suffering that is the result of one's sins cannot be shared with others, but must be endured by oneself alone. Enemies turn into friends, and friends turn into enemies is also common, so the fact that one dares to commit sins means that one is possessed by demons, driven mad by evil spirits, and is extremely foolish and ignorant. But one has never remembered even a single fault before, and no one has ever said, "Don't listen, don't do," etc. Now that one cannot be sure when one's body and life will end, will there even be an opportunity to purify one's sins? If one dies without having had even a little bit of opportunity to practice, what kind of hellish suffering will I experience?" etc., one blames oneself and cannot bear it. One must cultivate uneasiness. That is to say, if one conceals and hides one's faults, they will increase more and more, because the seeds of sin and the fertilizer of deception are complete. If one does not conceal them, but recognizes them as faults, and speaks and proclaims them to others, they will not increase, but will become weaker, which is called "concluding with the truth." On top of that, if one strives to purify one's sins with intense regret and confession, then there is no doubt that one's sins and downfalls will be completely purified from the root. That is also a method.

If grasped by a wise person, even a single virtuous deed can destroy a great mountain of sins. Saying, "I have committed such and such a misdeed," is called confession. To that, being tormented in mind with intense remorse is called repentance. Regarding sins as numerous as Mount Meru, being exceedingly amazed and respectful, feeling dejected and ashamed for having committed the misdeed, and also through secretly speaking, praying that you all, with your compassionate hearts, consider and purify these actions. Expressing these words from the depths of one's heart is the meaning of confession. To that, regarding sins committed in the past, having intense remorse like swallowing poison, is the power of completely refuting them. Even if it costs one's life, having the strong determination not to repeat them, is the power of returning from sin. Taking refuge and generating bodhicitta is the power of the support. The so-called six opponent forces, etc., aiming at purifying sins, striving to accomplish whatever is possible, is the power of universally applying the opponent forces; one must possess these four powers completely. If there is no remorse for past deeds, even if one merely performs the appearance of confession, sins will not be purified. If there is no determination to restrain oneself in the future, then confession and virtuous deeds will become meaningless. Without taking refuge and generating bodhicitta, even if one confesses hundreds of thousands of times, it is less powerful than one confession made by someone who possesses complete refuge and bodhicitta; the latter's power to purify sins is greater. Because one has obtained refuge and bodhicitta, confessing sins for many years is less effective than confessing sins for one day after receiving empowerment; the latter's effect of eliminating sins is greater, because the power of the support becomes increasingly stronger. The increase of sins and virtuous deeds should also be understood in this way. The six opponent forces are: reciting and proclaiming to others the names of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, such as Amitabha, Medicine Buddha, Akshobhya, etc., who are specifically praised for purifying obscurations, this is the first. Constructing Buddha images, scriptures, stupas, this is the second. Offering to the Three Jewels, making offerings to the Sangha, offering mandalas, and upon entering the secret mantra, offering mandalas and wheels, especially offering to the guru in five pleasing ways, this is the third. Reciting the Prajnaparamita Sutra and the Liberation Sutra, etc., the sutras and tantras spoken by the Victorious Ones, this is the fourth. Reciting the hundred-syllable mantra of the Tathagatas and the profound dharani mantras of Sarvavid (梵文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思), Akshobhya, etc., this is the fifth. Thus,
