At all times, may we be liberated from the kalpa of famine. For thousands of kalpas, may our food and enjoyment be abundant and complete. May gods and non-gods protect and accomplish our deeds. May we be free from all faults. May our lifespan, glory, merit, and fame increase. May we ultimately attain the non-abiding nirvana. If we practice according to the Dharma, great purposes will be accomplished. It appears as the descent of the Dharma. Therefore, in ancient histories, it is also recorded that a butcher who performed fifty "one-sitting practices" was reborn as a virtuous person. A woman who was deceitfully killed by six people performed thirty-nine "one-sitting practices" and obtained a virtuous human body. Furthermore, a woman who maintained twenty-five "one-sitting practices" was reborn as a qualified Geshe (spiritual friend). Although there are many delightful stories, once faith in the Dharma arises, that alone is sufficient, and there is no need to say more. The essence of these individual methods of practice, etc., is explained in detail elsewhere. In brief, first bathe and cleanse, then take vows. As it says in the "Friendly Letter": "The Victorious One has taught the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, as well as generosity, discipline, and the remembrance of the gods. One should remember the collections of qualities of each of these." As it is said, with refuge, bodhicitta, and the seven-branch offering as preliminaries, in the sky in front, visualize the deities of each day, as well as Avalokiteśvara, the common deity of Tibet, as being of one essence. It is very important to meditate on this, as it is said in the King's Testament. To the left of all the Dharma protectors, visualize the four-armed subjugator of maras. Then, recite their names, prostrate, and take refuge, reciting a hundred or a thousand times, as much as possible. Recite the respective dharani mantras and the six-syllable mantra as much as possible. Rays of light emanate from body, speech, and mind, touching oneself and all sentient beings, thinking that the obscurations of the three doors are purified. Finally, visualize the outer world and inner beings dissolving into light. Then, rest in a state of non-objectification, and dedicate the merit. Thus, strive to practice four or six sessions, as much as possible. At noon, perform the "one-sitting practice" properly. It is best if the two half-days, including the preliminaries and conclusions, are also spent like a fasting retreat. Even if that is not possible, one day is sufficient. Thus, the determination of each Dharma practice, etc., comes from the sutras. The "one-sitting practice" and the eight branches are common trainings for both the Great and Lesser Vehicles. These are the order of the methods of practice.
